Interesting facts / figures quoted from Sigþór Einarsson (Icelandair Group Chief Operating Officer).... BUT I'm curious to know how much profit will be generated by that annual revenue?

For years 1 & 2, the projected revenue is quoted as 2.1 billion ISK (that’s approx 16.2 million GBP/£'s). It sounds like a lot, huh ?! But, it only equates to revenue of £48,384 per day to cover both of those B767's.

Given that (on a B767) the typical sector length between Lagos & London and / or Lagos / Jo'burg is, say, 6 hours & 5:30 respectively – and we’ll assume these two B767’s have just one rotation between each city pair per day (i.e. a daily total of 23 hours is flown by the two aircraft when combined) - that dilutes down to a revenue £1,930 per operating hour... which, imho, seems a bit low to cover the hourly costs of running a B767 ?!

And for years 3 & 4 the revenue projection is even less, at only £1,375 per operating hour.

... or did I miss something?!

Hey Revnetwork, I hear that Virgin Nigeria is now one of the good boys for time keeping on the London route. Do you have any stats to back this up as I cannot find the right place on the BAA website?

I realise that this is good news about a Nigerian airline, and as such will offend those who like to think that Nigeria airlines can only be complained about

Thumbs up

Its a pity VK has taken such a long lease on the 767, a lot has been said about the attraction of 767 interior and in flight entertainment to fare paying pax, as compared to other airlines offering new generation equipment, like a330/340, b767 etc.
It is going to be that much difficult for VK to capture a huge chunk of the market, cos of the better service delivery offered by the competition.
VK also needs to have logistics in place to commence operations to the north atlantic, once the united states removes all imposed restrictions, otherwise bellview will beat them to it, and with the kind of low fares they offer, catching up with them will be difficult.
Arik also has its sights on this route, so VK needs to be well prepared and poised to move.

Hi SN,
You're right. Couldn't find the relevant section in the BAA website. I can ask the guys at VK who deal with OTP issues but that wouldn't give us relative performance against others although I know that there haven't been any major issues with delays recently. Even the domestic routes where the usual "VIP movements" normally cause havoc have been doing well.

What's going on in VK with regards their crew situation? They seem to have difficulty recruiting despite not having enough crew on the 737. The latest news is that nothing will happen until after the elections, as they want to see if the new govt will favor them.

Very much with Branson's blessing, having seen the profits made on Virgin Atlantic's own run to Lagos. Of course, you wonder where the money comes from for all those pax in paid Upper Class ......

Aren't the A340s crewed from London ? They still have their British reg.

Hi Guys and Gals

Please forgive me, but these merged Threads can be a bit confusing for me (not difficult!).

I've looked on all the usual employment related sites, but can't seem to find what the current terms and conditions are nor whether they have fulfilled their recruitment requirements?

Separately, what is the corporate situation regarding working environment and (anticipated) future direction for the airline.

Just facts and genuine opinions please, not a 'free for all'!!!

Cheers

SITW

PS: If it's all in the preceeding posts, just kindly tell me to refer back, I just couldn't see what I was looking for?!

Well I've read the various Threads at some length now.

Maybe give Nigeria, and Lagos in particular, a miss?!

Survival instincts are telling me to take my experience and employ it elsewhere.

Fair enough it's your call, but having worked out there I can state I wouldn't have missed the experience for the world. Some great people were met and lots of fun was had. Sure it isn't a cake walk, but then who wants everything handed to them on a plate?

Spanner..., your coming or not coming to Nigeria is akin to the weight of an ant on a plane

4HP, alot of posts on this thread have suddenly disappeared.Any reason why?

None that I can see. I'll check around but can't imagine why any threads would have been knocked off. 4HP

VK, any new routes please?

It has been a while since VK introduced new routes? I think the last route was sokoto if i am correct(forgive me if i am wrong, have not been around lately). But that is not expected from VK considering the way it started operating: everything has gone quiet!

Rvtnwk, SN, DMan, whats happening, any new routes coming soon/ Is VK also going to order for the dreamliner like ARIK?

What is also happening to the DXB route VK suspended?
