actually they have 4 CRJ900 coming in and 2 crj200, but the pay is **** ...for the local pilots, as for fokkerfellow and the rest of the gang, they are smiling to the bank

Rani thanks for the pix. I found an intresting piece in thisday.Here it is(emphasis mine):

''Start-up airline, Arik Air finally took delivery of three new aircraft yesterday, signaling its readiness to commence full operations on October 17, 2006.
The two CRJ900 aircraft acquired from Canadian plane-maker, Bombardier were flown into the country amid jubilation by the management and staff of the airline.
The first aircraft touched down at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos at 2.10pm while the second and third came in at 2.13pm and 2.44pm respectively and were parked at the rejuvenated hangar of defunct national carrier, Nigeria Airways that the new airline has acquired.
The pilot of the second airplane displayed great skills with the aircraft, making some of those maneuvers usually witnessed during air shows to the admiration of onlookers.
The aircraft registered as C-FHRH, C-FGNB and C-FHRK were nicknamed Anthony, John Paul 11 and Patrick respectively.
Speaking while receiving the aircraft, the Chairman of Arik air, Chief Johnson-Arumemi said the motivation behind the acquisition of the aircraft was the hunger to have modern aircraft in the country for national pride.
He lamented that other nations have left Nigeria behind, adding: ‘it cannot be business as usual’.
The Arik Air Chairman who said there was the need for Nigeria to move forward, stated that it was necessary to modernize aviation infrastructure.
On the choice of CRJ aircraft type, Johnson-Arumemi said they are popular in North America and Europe, adding that they are they first set of CRJs in Africa.
He stated that Nigeria deserves safe and comfortable aircraft, stressing that another delivery would be taken in February next year.
ìFrom the ashes of Nigeria airways Limited we are building a new airline. It is Biblical that a tree must die for it to be strong. From the ashes of Nigeria Airways, we believe we would make a very good airline that would be a pride to the Blackman and to Nigerians. That is why we are called ëWings of Nigeriaí, he said.
The management of the airline had last Thursday disclosed that operations would commence on October 17, starting with services between Lagos and Abuja and a build up in operations leading to a full network of ten destinations throughout Nigeria and three international routes in Africa.
The airline says it has already secured traffic rights into South America, specifically Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) as well as Miami, Houston and Atlanta.
It also plans to fly into Amsterdam (Holland, Madrid (Spain) and Paris (France)..''

Cool Sn this is for you.

Well SN, good for you, i see you were in the simulator when the pilot was evaluated. I happened to have been at the GeCAT facility the day tha said pilot came in for the evaluation, first of all, he was the only one evaluated that day, thats throws out your theory of being top of his class, where-else could he be, other than the bottom? Secondly,i got to hear the story there at the time that it was a thank you job being offered, like i said before, these forums are rumours, true or not, these stories are based on hear say! I chose to believe what i hear considering the source.
As for the allowances that were lost, those are facts! Whoever wants to believe else? Is totally free to do so. Arik on the other, hand will as i hear it stick to bisuness as usual; they are now working to up the pay for the locals as i am informed reliably.

LJT has anyone told you Father Christmas is real?? Did you believe them then find out they were not being truthful??

Believe as you wish my friend, but if it is the same person that we are discussing then I have heard nothing but praise for his abilities from his colleagues.

If you believe what you have heard, that's ok, i have no objections whatsoever.
Santa is as real to any person who 'believes' that he does.
I really can't spend the rest of my time debating whether the stories are true or not, i'd rather come up with something eye-catching for the rest here to dwell on.
Lastly, i meant nothing by the face, just wanted to add some humour mate.

here we go again cant we all get along?
ie vk bashers, arik motivators, so much hostility especially towards vk,methinks its time to sheath your swords.Both companies employ a **** load of people who support a million others.So what they need is our unbiased advice to enable both succeed.

Any word when and how many Boeing driver(s) Arik Air is hiring?
Heard they're looking for experienced 37 drivers.. $ 8500.00 per month

well its nice to see all the ariks airplanes on ground without nigerian crew,there are over 20 foreign pilot on ground lagos and are still expecting more of them, becos they claim nigerian pilot are not that smart, well i would like to see fokkerfellow go for the sim assesment in GECAT, at list the chief pilot of vk went and he did well.so fokkerfellow u need to go to GECAT, lets see what u are made off. hey what can i say

biggie, at the moment, 15 nigerians are in Zaria receiving training courtesy of ARIK and this is a very welcome and commendable development. Secondly, about ten Nigerians are in Canada too courtesy of ARIK.
Tell me, which Nigerian Airline has sponsored 15 students to Zaria in ages?

Guys,
The students sent to Zaria is a very commendable move by arik, i'd like to see more carriers do that in future, my only fear is whether they'll get good enough training there; as i hear it, most of the instructors there have left due poor pay 'again'.
I dont remember a time where it was claimed by arik that Nigerian pilots were weak, i just know quite a lot of them rejected the offers recieved due to the crappy pay that was offered at that time.
And like Vk, they are currently reviewing the figures upwards in the hope that it might attract more locals.
I know of some that just arrived from training in canada, who accepted the offers the way they were given in the same hope those of Vk did; that things would look up thereafter.
I hear arik inaugurates tomorrow, dont know how true, but thats what i hear; or at least something like that.

Biggie, the problem is not the foreigners nor arik's mgmt. Like the proverbial saying, "we have found the enermy and it is us".
The competence of nigerian pilots will be questioned when our so called aviators lie about DME distances, lie about their position, request engine start when the pax have not even started boarding and all such crap.
For the first time in nigeria, people are being hired bcos of their competence and not who they know or if they are hausa, ibo or yoruba and all the associated crap.
If people are being told they did not pass their assessment, let them go to zaria and rent an aircraft and brush off. In the west, when people are going for interviews they hire a sim and polish their skills.
it is sad to see the state we are in, the jokers and the slackers who paraded themselves as "professionals" should be ashamed of themselves.
Think about it, does it make sense to hire foreigners at such exorbitant cost to the company. Arik is being smart, they need people who know what they are doing and in the long run safety is maintained and insurance cost will not run them out of business.
Like they say with computers, garbage in, garbage out.
