Just received bad news from Zenon.

They were told by VA only this morning to review all candidates (They have a large amount to call) and filter out anyone who has not flown aircraft over 10T in the last 12 months. Passed all the screening and only had the sim to do ahead of final interview. Very disappointing news indeed and shows the values of diversity and inclusion are not as they would appear...

very much so, they talk of being yourself etc but it’s all marketing spin which the dinosaurs in flight ops hate.

One can argue that the issue is substandard candidates, not being able to understand basic requirements and passing blame. Recency requirements ties up with training risk and costs, has nothing to do with diversity. Every airline in the country has a similar restriction. You lot are hellbent to justify your failures with your biases and bigotry, it’s sad to say the least.

BA: To be considered for British Airways short-haul, at the time of submitting your online application you must have a minimum 500 hours on the A320 and flown this type in the last 12 months.

Emirates:
  • Minimum 150 hours within the past 12 months on Type

Easyjet, Jet2, TUI, Qatar…12 months…get a grip guys, it’s ugly now.

I literally looked at a few other airlines, to confirm what I already knew, every airline has a recency requirement criteria. Recency requirements is to do with training success. Doesn’t take a genius, but these guys are the ones that probably fail a sim and will blame on everything and everyone except themselves. If anyone has any doubts about the existence of bigotry in the flight deck, just need to read this thread.

To be suitable to join us on an Airbus or Boeing Full type rating, you need:
  • A minimum experience of 100 route sectors and 1500 hours (FO)/ 3000 hours (SFO) of flight time on a multi-pilot turbojet or a multi-pilot turbo-prop aeroplane, having a maximum take-off mass of not less than 10 tonnes or a certificated passenger seating configuration of more than 19 passengers.
  • Hold a current UK Class One Medical
  • Unfrozen ATPL licence issued by the UK CAA at the date of joining.
  • The ability to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English (certified as ICAO level 6 English Proficiency when applying)

The above is the criteria I met only to be told that now suddenly I don't despite passing all the assessments.

That’s not what you said, you mentioned diversity & inclusion and the question to you was what does that got to do with recency requirements?

My understanding is that it has always been VA’s criteria. If they didn’t advertised it in this campaign, it’s on them. That said, come here and blame this issue on diversity, is a little pathetic. It seems to be the trend here.

Tell me what airline would put you in a long-haul jet, paying for your rating out of their pocket with no bond, without you having a jet rating or currency on a heavy jet/prop?

Someone clearly didn't go to their interview wearing a rainbow lanyard with glittery makeup and mascara. Be better prepared next time and all will be well. Be sure to attend the sim in a skirt. Do come back to let us know when you start.

Meanwhile, are others still bothering with this airline? Incredible

It’s an orgy of prejudice and lack of accountability. The true snowflakes are those who actually have total meltdowns over what their colleagues choose to wear or that the airline promotes equality. They don’t want equal, they want supremacy as the status quo sponsors their delusion of grandeur. The intellectual will seek knowledge on things he/she doesn’t understand. People with integrity will do the right thing even under the anonymity of online forums. I have seen colleagues who belong to LGBTQ + community, with the “skirt and rainbows” who are more “men” than these cant-hold-eye-contact, limp handshake “pilots” who spew their incel talk over here….

I hope VA and Zenon are reading this thread after the tip, people like this shouldn’t get the job, if their values are so at odds with these people then why apply and moan about a rejection online? They would be on their own in a lonely hotel room because the cabin crew wouldn’t want anything to do with them anyway, it’s bizarre.

Well I'm afraid you aren't all as lovey dovey uber duber inclusive diverse whatever the hell as you all like to make out.

Why have there been cabin crew leaving Virgin to return to Ryanair? First hand reports of cabin crew crying themselves to sleep on layovers at Virgin due to the entire toxicity of the whole thing. Is that why those crew you mention aren't joining the pilots for meals?? Bullying, toxic management, rosters leaving you with no life.

These crew are LGBTQ .. where on earth is the humanity in treating them with any dignity? Or is that reserved for the instagram posts??

Why was there a pilot who's entire life dream was to fly for Virgin - yet he lasted 14 months?? I'm yet to hear a single good report of working for this airline from anyone I know who has left to go, or from those knowing others who have gone. I cannot say that for any other airline?

This sudden yet intense focus on LGBTQ+!#@LMNOP appears to all be a very disingenuous coverup for the reality of what the airline has turned into.

You have an axe to grind and anyone with half brain will figure that you were either rejected OR fired.

First hand reports you say, well, I used to be crew there and know a lot of crew who beg to differ, and I will call your BS, BS.

“Why there have been cabin crew leaving blabla”. I can come here and give you galley FM too. I have seen crew leave my airline, who pays more and have a better working environment than Ryanair, but perhaps a fixed roster is priority to some?
Or regional/European bases? You imply it has to do with the equality issue which in turn makes you look not very intelligent. There can be a number of reasons that lead people to leave, work life balance being the first I can think of. Bullying? There was bullying back in the day at VA, before the supposed change, so again, BS. Do you know where there is plenty of even more bullying? Ryanair…

All you have to offer is bitterness and bigotry and you added zero to the conversation, there’s nothing positive or constructive, we have learned nothing from you, says a lot. A sad little-pity-novel of how the world of Virgin isn’t to your liking anymore. Nobody cares, and if you haven’t heard good things is because people who are truly happy, aren’t here, bragging about it online.

Someone suggested that it is the reason they can’t hire, yet more BS from people who have no recruitment experience or true insight of the market. My airline struggles to recruit, so does BA who need 600 pilots in the next year. The middle east carriers aren’t “woke”, they can’t hire enough.

This thread was overrun by the pound shop Piers Morgan’s of aviation, crying themselves to sleep as the wet dreams of laying by the beach with a few good looking blondes and having the time of their life was evaporated, because it turns out they aren’t fun to be around. Truth of the matter, you wouldn’t have this discussion face to face or say half the things you do because 100% of the times, people who think like you are cowards.

My suggestion, try Saudi Arabia. Good pay, double than VA actually and tax free. Also, they don’t really hire gay people, actually you can do very macho things like hang out with men and talk about how manly you are. No rainbows😅

I will fly you there myself, economy though. Take a seat mate.

Now can we discuss real issues, like the scheduling agreement negotiations? (Not you, everyone else who’s sick of this nonsense and wants to move on).

Some FO’s and crews are speaking of being bullied by “new” captains drunk on power and who wouldn’t have passed command a few years ago. That’s becoming a regular conversation now from crews and FO’s. Some are scared to fly with a few and it’s the same names that crop up.
Some so tired they fall asleep in jump seats on landing. And then the rank misogyny in the form of sleazy individuals trying it on.

And as for the LGBTQ inclusivity they love to advertise that they make a big song and dance about at interview….that’s a sham like so much in the Virgin 2.0. I know the trans women pilot they made a big supporting, she hated how they were making such a big thing about it, just wanted to get on with life. When we flew together when I asked her about it and she said that she didn’t want the fuss, that she only agreed to internal DEI stuff to help others and didn’t know they were slapping it into the media.
She has just left and is starting legal proceedings after complaining of being sexually harassed and bullied by other pilots, and from what I know she’s got a water tight case, hell I’ve even heard the disgusting gossip being spread about her by other pilots.. And before anyone starts making comments about her she’s truly a nice lady, a bloody good pilot and really intelligent. I’ve flown with her a few times and was very impressed with her performance. She’s left for a DEC at DHL I believe. So read into that what you will.

Sadly ever since the Covid thing it’s changed here at Virgin, and not for the best. It’s why I’m going soon and I’ve been here a long time. I’m fed up of having to second guess peoples motives, tired and fed up of the disrespect management have for us and lots of other reasons… basically nibbled to death by ducks!!
So I’m off with my mill pension and going to do short haul euro trip flying for a wee while until I retire.

Incredible, thank you for the insight. It is very sad though it does all corroborate what I've been told about the place, and seems to fit in with this false image they are forcing on social media. Having to work with the likes of some of the sheer lunatics on this thread cannot be easy. I was put off the place and therefore won't bother applying. I hope it all works out well for you however.

Is that dog still barking in the opposite garden? It's well past their bedtime.
