Please forgive a naive question, but do the Sunwing aircraft go under a G- reg while operating for Thomson or do the aircraft temporarily go under Thomson's AOC ?

If the answer is 'neither', would Thomson be limited to using the Sunwing aircraft on routes to non-EU destinations ? I'm just curious the way Thomson can lease from a Canadian non-EU airline to fly from the UK to destinations other than Canada

DJ it's a reciprocal agreement.EU aircraft and crews go out to Canada in our winter and help provide the snowbird lift capacity to warmer destinations as the Canadians escape their climate.Mutually beneficial helping to ease seasonal capacity variations between both markets.

the SWG aircraft are on canadian reg, SWG AOC, Canadian pilots and operate under Canadian rules on TOM flight numbers.

The UK cabin crew have to comply with Canadian requirements, all announcements in English and French.

When I travelled last summer (BHX/AYT) the Capt went to the trouble of explaining how SWG was a joint venture with TUI and therefore SWG Airlines was a sister airline to Thomson.

When the aircraft go to Canada, there's a mix of "wet lease" on UK register and others that transfer to the Canadian register.

Do you know if the aircraft are Cat 3 capable with Cat 3 qualified crew other wise no doubt the Leeds operation might present a problem.

Why should they be any different as they get plenty of bad weather in Canada during winter

As usual these listings don't mention the dropped routes. From EDI they've dropped Antalya, not surprisingly, but seem also to have abandoned Ibiza to Jet2. Until recently it did appear on several days each week, presumably using space on Jet2 flights, although if you tried to book,it was always sold out. Now it's gone.
They are offering NY trips using AA, and Puerto Rico appears in the destination list, but with no holidays. Is it an error, or is this marker for a winter long haul programming?

Nothing for Newcastle this summer, anyone know what's replacing the Funchal flight this year?

Ryanair is starting EDI-IBZ this year too, so that may also have prompted TOM to re-think that one.

First flight in B788 with TOM flying to/from Jamaica.

Nice aircraft. Extra-legroom seats giving an extra 2 inches worthwhile. Whoever designed the seats did not work for Volvo - my back hurts even before the landing back at Manchester where the ground seemed to surprise the pilot. Worst I and quite a few others had ever experienced.

The in-flight entertainment is a bit week compared to the 'a list' airlines. Has the functions - but actually not much content.

Meal choice was rubbish (actually non-existent), with only the one option each way. The child meals were something of a joke - particularly disappointed in how a holiday charter airline caters for kids.

Still should not complain too much. The flight out in the proceeding week was delayed for 5 hours with a 767 being chucked on the route. The downside being that it was smaller so some people were off loaded and moved to Gatwick...

The total cost was in line for a similar holiday with BA or Virgin flying economy, so comparable products. The difference for us was the hotel choice, which was a class below BA/Virgin, but with a Water Park on site a little better for a 11 year old... and her parents...

The Thomson Premium was full. Not sure what the cost difference would have been - but I would hope not much as the product would certainly not be a match for the major airlines more premium stuff.

Premium in Thomson long haul costs around £300 extra per round trip, significantly cheaper than BA or Virgin, with at least the same amount of extra space. You also get free 'fasttrack' security, plus lounge access at the UK departure airport. Personally, I reckon it's a bargain!

£300 for a little bit of extra legroom, fast track security and lounge access is hardly a good deal. The lounge can be bought for £20 and fast track security can be purchased at LGW for £5. You're paying £275 for 6 inches of extra legroom compared to BA and Virgin economy. Otherwise BA and Virgin economy on long haul already out do Thomson Premium when it comes to food and service. Assuming you're on a 13 hour flight, you're paying more than £10/hour for your extra legroom.

True, but then you could also argue that as BA/Virgin are almost 3 times more expensive than Thomson, the extra space you get with them is costing you £20 an hour!
I appreciate that the BA and [especially] Virgin experience will be better than Thomson, but will it be three times better?
Whatever, it is still better than being in the main cabin.
