Some premium upgrades are lot less than £300.

The extra also includes the extra APD, increased choice of drinks, choice of meals with proper crockery and cutlery, smaller cabin, luggage with increased allowance included in flight price, priority check in/bag drop, priority boarding, no paying to select seats, bigger IFE screen, wider seats with bigger recline.

In the case of BA I'm not sure it really is that much better. At least you get a toilet in the Thomson PE cabin and a decent breakfast.

Economy on Virgin Atlantic is very much the mirror of most charter airlines. Don't let the Virgin marketing department hoodwink you in to feeling it's anything special.

For long haul, Premium Economy/WT Plus are worth it though I think, especially for overnight eastbound trips.

I appreciate that the BA and [especially] Virgin experience will be better than Thomson, but will it be three times better?
Whatever, it is still better than being in the main cabin.
Just read a post on TA from someone that's flown Virgin PE and Thomson PE. He said they were similar in service, food and drinks, and seats very similar in pitch and width.

You get 2 toilets in the PE cabin on the TOM 788, and 3 on the 789 lol.

Looks like G-TUIF has gone tech down in Phuket. It hasn't returned after doing outbound TOM746, and I see G-TUIB has been sent over to the Nordics since Tuesday.

G-TUIF currently on it's way back from Phuket to Prestwick as BY9099.
Assume that it's going there for repairs?

Diverts/summer 17

The 788 replacement aircraft for the damaged aircraft in Phuket later positioned to BHX from ARN to operate the BGI service today where it departed 1:40 late and then ended up in Manchester. It is airborne again from Manchester and have actually been told it might have been planned.

However a 738 this afternoon on BHX Sofia departed on Schedule got as far as the Stuttgart area and turned around and headed home back to Brum.

Summer 17

Any news when the schedule will be finalised as it is getting a bit close. Some changes this week with scheduled Vueling and Norwegian flights being used from BHX but the 8th based aircraft is still showing "TBA".

Also rumours that the three 738's will be all Thomson this year (no Sunwing)but back to the TBA contract - it is only scheduled on 4 days which makes it easy to merge into other flights (AGP & PMI are the destinations) and I assume they are they still waiting to see how bookings are going? It was rumoured as Germania.

Birmingham is only showing 7 based now for s17, at least it was when I checked Sat and Sun last night

Lots of shuffling the past couple of days. Sat night Palma has gone

I'm sure this is related to Jet2 moving in

I read elsewhere that both TUI and Thomas Cook have stopped selling Jet2 holidays through their stores. Hardly surprising since Jet2 is now of a comparable size to TC - possible bigger in Europe.

Summer 17

jon01

Is this from BHX slot requests as Thomson are still selling Malaga Thursday and Friday TBA aircraft out in the morning back at night same with Palma Saturday.

I can understand it staying at 7 based as there was never enough work for the whole week.

Seems to have been a few changes in the last week. My holiday flight has changed departure times again (for the third time since booking) - Sunday nights TOM2776 MAN-TFS has been moved back from 1915 to 1740 from May-July, reverting to the previous schedule from the school summer holidays until October, with TOM2777 also being changed. In S16 the aircraft flew to Crete and back in the morning, then to TFS in the evenings, and was B763 operated, but with these timing changes, Im wondering if this is now not as likely? Anybody know what type might be?

Is G-TUIF going technical likely to have any effect on our flight back to BHX from PUJ on Wednesday?

All the capacity from Jet2 can only be filled, in large part, by abstraction from existing providers, mainly TOM and TCX. There can't be that much unmet demand!

At the very least, I would have thought that they will be able to do without wet-leasing additional frames at peak season. So there may be more schedule changes over the next few months as bookings come in.

Summer 17 & Diverts

oceanhawk

Thank you

mr_moose

There have been minor changes to the BHX schedule (possibly major ones if Jon is right) in the last week and I suppose it is just that time of year before things settle down.

wowzz

Probably too early to say but sorting issues at this time of year is usually easier than mid summer and both BHX diverts yesterday are now almost back on track. The based 788 left around one late to Montego Bay and the long-haul 763 is now in for the Bridgetown so BHX long-haul is only running around one hour to 90 minutes late.

The 738 divert is even back operating - the same aircraft went back to Sofia last night and it is already back in from Toulouse this morning. Sorted as they say.
