maintenance fraud...

Regarding the press statements that maintenance is up to standard - we've got - and the FAA has got - detailed proof of maintenance fraud in addition to that posted on the petition site.

If anyone has more current proof of maintenance fraud, please let me know.

Thank you.

One-Two-stop

Bangkok Post

The Civil Aviation Department has ordered One-Two-Go airlines to halt operations for 30 days due to substandard operations and revoked or suspended the flying licences of nine of its pilots.

Chaisak Angsuwan, director-general of the department, said suspension of the airline's Air Operator Certificate was effective from today.

The department had found shortcomings in the airline's aviation operations, flight schedules and maintenance, along with a lack of quality assurance.

The low-cost airline had violated aviation safety regulations and lacked proper airline management.

The flying licences of seven of the airline's foreign pilots were revoked, six Indonesians and a Venezuelan, and the licences of two Thai pilots suspended.

The department found the pilots on the airline's MD80 series aircraft had submitted documents misstating their level of expertise.

The airline and its pilots were liable to criminal penalties and the department would file charges against them in two weeks, said Mr Chaisak.

The announcement follows the department's investigation into the crash of flight OG269, an MD-82, at Phuket International Airport on Sept 16 last year, killing 89 people and injuring 41.

The airline was required to correct the flaws in its operations during the suspension period, or the department could either extend the suspension or terminate the airline's certificate.

One-Two-Go was ordered to correct its flight schedules, aircraft maintenance and quality assurance system.

Mr Chaisak said One-Two-Go's parent airline, Orient Thai, was also warned it must change its flight schedules to allow its pilots enough rest time, as required by aviation safety regulations.

Transport Minister Santi Promphat said other airlines would face similar punishment if they were found to have committed the same offences. Airlines should be more careful in examining the qualifications of their staff, especially their pilots, said Mr Santi.

Udom Tantiprasongchai, the president of One-Two-Go Airlines, said the nine pilots were sacked on July 8. He had not previously known about the pilots' incorrect documents. He believed the airline could make all the changes required within the 30 days.

Authorities say One-Two-Go´s pilot proficiency check reports must have been falsified because the person who supposedly signed them was found to have been overseas on holiday at the time

Udom himself is overseas at present. Maybe he should stay there.

Thailand's One-Two-Go faces criminal charges

Questions about changing stories, charges and groundings

How many times can the DCA change its story in the span of a week? (And what happened to that DCA deputy-director Vittuchai?)

Udom and Cho (also Ongarch and Sommuit) are responsible for and were aware of the illegal and dangerous flight at Orient Thai/One-Two-Go. When will they be criminally charged?

When will Orient Thai be grounded for dangerous flight?

How can Thai DCA allow Phuket Air to continue operations?
Much more and many worse violations from the mangament there.
Was told by crew that HS-VAN TCAS has been not working for months now.
Some Capt are forcing flight plans to be filed below 29.0 in RVSM airspace because of this.
Saudia shame on you. all documented facts.

Phuket Mangment needs to be advised and aware of that most crew that recently resigned were because of threats, intimidation from the indian cordinater there.
Western Pilots were tired of hearing that they could be replaced at half the cost with Filipinos and Indonesians.
He said the asians would operate anything and never would complain about MEL issues or flight duty times.
This airline is finished soon I understand.
And as it should be as before, they never seem to learn from the past, same crap different day.

Operating windshear detection systems are not required for an airport to be operational. Ultimately, it's the pilots' decision to land or not to land in stormy weather.

I'm told the pdf posted on the DCA website explicitly states that Orient Thai had its AOC revoked.
A copy of the document is posted on the petition site (in case it changes or disappears): InvestigateUdom.com Proof and Evidence see July 26

HKT other problems

I think it is clear that the pilots knew there was windshear, they were warned from the tower and their alarms were sounding in the transcript of CVR , why wasn't anyone pushing the engines up for TOGO is a better question along with why didn't HKT have staff on site as required and not enough water or foam ..And why wasn't an emergency declared, etc., etc..
Oh and why wasn't the airport CLOSED! The weather was the worse I'd ever seen and I'm close enough to it to have heard the bang that I think was the top of the airliner blowing off .
And why isn't the runway grooved for rainwater runoff, IN THE TROPICS
.. and what else has Bonnie dug up??
I have to fly out of that airport ....
I want to know that it's as safe as possible.
Yeah, right in .... Tland???
Time to leave I have 4 horses and I need a cargo plane. I'll pay anything to get them, and me out of this horrible country without having to drive them 900 kilometers to KL or BKK ( more safety horrors ) I can't get a commercial cargo flight out of HKT

What else have we learned about Thai-based Airlines?

We've easily obtained proof of maintenance fraud, excessive hours, illegal flight and regulations that include orders forbidding declarations of emergency at multiple Thai-based airlines. (The FAA has all of this proof as well.) The information clearly shows an unwillingness or inability by the DCA to provide oversight as well as a deep lack of concern for human life.

Furthermore, Thai-based airlines are viewing non western-trained pilots and engineers as cheaper and more malleable equivalents to those trained in western methods. As the western-trained staff depart, so goes the final safety net.

IMO, a person traveling on a Thai-based airline should consider their safety in these ways:
  1. Am I planning to fly an airline with a commitment to safety?
  2. If the answer to 1 is "no' or "unknown", then: Are the pilots on this particular flight properly and deeply experienced in western-based aviation?
For thoughts about the broader issue of corruption, here is an interesting article from yesterday's Boston Globe on The Culture of Corruption.

Investigate Udom,

I sat @ my flat in Hong Kong last night with some other EX Orient Thai pilots.
All of us agree that you've done a great job in exposing Udom for what he and the airline is (was).

But honestly.. everyone knows Thailand is corrupt. Thailand is a 3rd world country where paper bags filled with money run the show.

We were all only ever there for a short time to make some cash and move on.

I am not sure how much more you can accomplish. I applaud your effort, I ( and my friends) have all signed your petition, but frankly the Thai Gov't and Udom are too close to really make any permanent difference.

Best of luck. Bur I think it is time for you to heal too. (and I mean that in the nicest way. Your fight has been great, you've accoplished a lot.)

Here's my remaining issue: You and I and everyone reading this thread knows they are taking a gamble when they fly on an Thai-based airline.
But what about all those innocent tourists who don't know?

When Thailand is de-listed or at least listed as category 2 in the US, and the EC does the similarly, then the traveling public will also be warned.

AAIGUY: No offense taken. I very much appreciate your support and your concern. You're right, together, we've accomplished a great deal. Once the FAA properly wraps up their work, I'll move along.

AAIGUY: With much respect, I must add that Investigate Udom is also looking to accomplish public awareness. While you and your colleagues can reflect on Thailand’s corruption, there are many uneducated tourists who assume that all air travel is created equal. Assuming that everyone understands that Thailand’s corruption spills over into the national oversight of airline safety is a stretch.

Flying for a Thai carrier and accepting the corrupt terms serves to continue the trend. Those of us that know better must refrain from working in countries like Thailand. Making a quick buck and then moving on- this mentality serves to contribute to the lack of a safety culture, especially when we complain about the lack of safety after the fact.

As I am sure you have, think of yourself in Investigate Udom’s shoes and imagine the daunting amount of information that you’d have to take in to understand this industry and the safety practices that should be adhered to. I dare say that this IS a huge part of the healing process.

Even if, in the absence of action to downgrade Thailand’s carrier status, there are now thousands of people that now understand the risks of assuming safe air travel across the globe.

Hey AAIGUY:

We were all only ever there for a short time to make some cash and move on.
Make some cash at Orient Thai? Was that the $50 USD everytime you flew an illegal airplane?

Even the cheapest prostitutes make more than that.

Actually Thai Prositutes go for about 3-500 baht or $12 dollars.. so we still made more. And I (and the others left very soon after starting as it was obvious the place was a disaster waiting to happen).

Awareness is great, I am all for it.

Silence of the Lambs

Any pilot who flew for Udom for quick money and left because they knew it was a catastophe waiting to happen and didn't do anything, like write a letter or protest or in some way to draw attention to the lack of safety , well, they are just as culpable for the 1-2 Go slaughter last September ...

Why did it take an American woman, not connected in any way to the airline industry, to get this done???

Please, ask yourselves how different are you really from the money-in-bag, Thai culture, because aquiessence is the foundation of corruption.

Now you should take out an ad in your respective countries, contact the US FAA and help get TLand's rating lowered.
