On the 34pp: transitioning to a 29 year scale closing the gap with the 24 scale.
So far a lot of disappointment. Watch the space for cost savings with any changes(restrictions) to the postings and promotions (fleet moves).
For new entrants with experience and a good performance some positive pay changes towards the SFO pay.

That’s the spirit! I thought it looked pretty good…what were you expecting?

ps Pensionable pay will walk in step with basic so that’s going up, not down, surely.

BA Psych Test

Applied to BA Long Haul and received a response within a few hours with a “Personality and Cognitive Test.” Has anyone got any insight into what kind of tests they use (e.g. SHL, AON, etc.)?

Your PS suggests you have not looked at the finer detail. Or you are one of the people who is benefitting all round so no wonder you think it looks a good deal.

GS-Alpha 24th March 2026 16:37

It is fairly obvious that any pay deal which needs to be drip fed over the course of a week, is almost certainly not going to be great for the majority. Some people are doing incredibly well out of it though. A fact which most certainly cannot be disputed.

I have absolutely looked at the finer detail, and have used the comprehensive modeller. Maybe it’s just that my expectations are more in-line with reality maybe? I’d wait until the thing has been presented as a whole before dismissing it as rubbish.

I’m less convinced about today’s offering though. I still struggle with a bonus mechanism that is part reliant on something we have zero control over, and to tie it in anyway to you-know-what is crazy in my opinion. I’m being deliberately vague here, but that specific decision has got absolutely no place whatsoever being tied to a bonus trigger.

the problem is that on Pp34 we have pensionable pay linked to the pp24 scale. The new proposed scale does away with that so ends up with much lower pensionable pay as a result.

Just to add for anyone watching on the sidelines, it seems this highly anticipated deal was underwhelming to many and I am not sure if it will get through the vote. In any case we will see come April!

I referred to this a few posts back, turns out the rumour is true. It is very new and as a result you will unfortunately be hard pressed to find too many people who have done it and also lurk on here.

My best advice would be to be as honest as possible and you likely won’t go far wrong.

GS-Alpha 24th March 2026 18:14

We are not even half way through the drip feed though. This tactic has been chosen for a reason. Knowing the way BALPA operate, and the amount of time they have invested in this, I suspect it will get membership approval. However, it will likely only just get through, and it will lead to a lot of very seriously hacked off SFOs. I doubt it will especially motivate many senior captains either. Very junior FOs from other companies will be pleased (unless they had their eye on a quick short haul command), and short haul captains will be especially pleased.

eagle21 24th March 2026 18:31

Any bets on changes and restrictions to the postings and promotions? This is an area where
savings are to be found.

Remember this line from July last year:

without forcing anyone into specific roles

What is the criteria for being an SFO?

Very soon to be 5 years in the company or 3000* commercial hours (whichever comes first) and subject to a “competency defined process”, whatever that means.

*If you manage to get pregnant this is reduced to 2000 hrs to account for maternity. No offset for fathers seeing to paternal duties.

Anyone got any information on the new cognitive ability testing that has been introduced?

nothing too strenuous, basic maths really. Unit work, percentages, couple other sections. Good luck.

If anyone has their sim assessment on the 6th April feel free to give me a message

Hey there, been invited for interview date... just wondering if it Capacity test and interview on this day or were there other elements! Thanks for the heads up on the capacity test!! I think I failed this last time because of the distance calculations! any other info would be great :)

GS-Alpha 25th March 2026 17:29

Not seeing anything of interest to me in today’s instalment, but all the currently still frozen Covid affected captains will be unfrozen for this upcoming bid. It will be interesting to see where everyone moves around to.

Keeping it relevant to the target audience of this thread, it’s a huge basic salary increase for anybody joining with 3000+ hours, and still a moderate basic salary increase for anybody below those hours.

If it goes through.

You must also mention that there is a significant reduction of flying pay and a lower pension reference scale for those not on the 24 paypoint (which no newjoiner will be) . It is clear they have simply moved money around, there is no actual pay uplift of any note. This is smoke and mirrors and i actually feel quite insulted my union who I pay my hard earned money to are proposing I accept it.

Pensionable pay is also reduced for the 24 pay point scale short-haul pilots to match their new revised higher salary which is still lower than their previous pensionable. In short a captain on Pay point 16 on the old scale is getting a 5% rise in June, a pay point 13 captain on the new pay gets a 15% pay rise.

I don’t necessarily disagree with you, I’m just trying to keep this thread relevant for the target audience rather than it turn into another platform for BA pilots to discuss points which nobody outside of the company understands. This thread was a huge resource for me when I was considering joining, but trying to navigate the acronyms and BAisms was like a minefield.

Ultimately when considering a career switch, you want to know the headline figures and the pension and benefits relevant to your existing position and how they affect you, not somebody on PP16. For experienced pilots looking to join BA, a £19k increase in basic pay is a significant uplift.

starting figures for SH pilot with circa 1000hrs with this potential new deal?

halbeir 26th March 2026 13:50

I’m approaching 3000 hours and in choosing to pursue an upgrade at my current outfit vs join BA, an uplift/recognition of experience there would certainly attract me.

That said from what I can see BA has always structured its pay on time at the company, so I can’t imagine those with fewer hours but more loyalty will be too happy with experienced newbies showing up on more money than them.
