How many E-Jets on property these days? Which bases have the most E-Jets? Any more on order?
BHX CWL DSA EXT MAN NQY have the ejets. 20 in total. 4 more orders but I doubt they'll ever arrive.
I like the E-Jets - it's a great platform and I know passengers like it. That said, Flybe sounds like a perfect candidate for the Bombardier C-Series for several reasons: current Bombardier customer, E-Jets are great but could be swapped out in a trade and Bombardier desperately needs the order following orders from SWISS, Air Canada, airBaltic and Delta.
Plus, the C-Series is more efficient than the E175/190 and has significantly greater range for more route versatility (including transatlantic capability on thin routes). Given the lack of recent orders, I bet Flybe could get a good deal... Again this is pure speculation, but if Flybe is still intent on protecting its current market, growing throughout Europe and possibly further afield, maybe operating a more fuel efficient and versatile airplane like the C-Series at the right price could help... |
Do you work for Bombadier? who cares about what fleet they have?
Is the part time deal 5 on 5 off or 5 on 3 off? And is it available to DECs? It sounds like full time at flybe is not really sustainable anymore!
Full time isn't sustainable anywhere anymore. Unless you're in corporate.
Just a quick question on career advancement for first officers, what sort of time is needed on the Dash before you're eligible to apply for RHS on the embraer. Or what's the average time spent on it before first officers usually move over?
You are eligible to bid for a position immediately but your chances of success relies on alot of variables such as where you bid and how many people above you on the seniority list bids for the same position. I know of first officers get the position after 6 months, I also know of some first officers who've waited 6 years.
Currently EJET commands are running more or less at 9 years seniority. (as the case with me)
There's been periods in the past at which EJET commands were awarded after only 3 years seniority, as the case with the former base in INV. Again it all depends on various variables such as attrition , direct dash replacement etc |
Nobody wants to live there?
The ABZ base has been opened and closed a few times, which probably doesn't help attract people to leave their current jobs. Hence the need to dangle the carrot of an extra £500 a month.
Effectively a new Captain to ABZ jumps up the payscales higher than a lot of current Captains with more years of seniority. Way to endear yourself to your loyal employees flybe! But that's another discussion entirely :hmm: |
Just been invited down to Southampton for the selection process on the 30th January. Looking forward to getting back in the saddle after a bit of a lay-off. Daring to hope. Meet all the criteria in spades except for the 10 hours in the last year. Hope this won't be a stopper.
Depends what your experience is. We've had people forwarded by CTC that have been, er, how shall I put it, rather creative about their recent and total experience and sooner, rather than later, they've been found out. DE Capt recruitment has been brought back "in house" partly for that reason, but mainly because the standard of some people has been cr@p. If you've only flown small aeroplanes, then you might be politely asked to Foxtrot Oscar, but if you've got a reasonable pedigree, then you'll probably be put forward if you pass the interview. We've had all kinds of backgrounds in the last couple of years...........!
Many thanks, Buster.
I've 6000 hrs on 747s and C-130s, relief command on the former and management captain on the latter. Getting my license back was straightforward enough, it's a bit like riding a bike although I'm not one to take things for granted. I'm also a keen flight simmer and, yes, I know the hours don't count but the checklist/flow routine is still ticking over. I attended a Flybe roadshow for DEC and was asked how I'd feel about RHS on a Dash 8; I pointed out that our job's getting from A to B safely and that I'm there to support the operation, not to worry about status and who had the most hours. Anyway, I'm daring to hope at the moment but I'll post back after the event and pass on anything not already here for others. All the best, |
In which case, I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck!!
Any current Flybe pilots able to give the lowdown on whether the rostering situation has improved? Wannabe here going for selection in a few weeks, but after hearing them described as 'worse than easyjet' I'm getting cold feet. Thanks.
I can only speak for myself when I say that I haven't seen any disruption for two months and February is looking quite light. I've had a fair bit of SBY recently and haven't been called. It'll be a hectic summer but the noises from flight ops states we should have the right number of crew for the summer.
Agreed, Jan and Feb are looking good for me.
I have heard spring and summer will be busy. If BA don't start recruitment until later this year Flybe should manage without too much disruption over the busy summer months. Captains have been promised more Leave (35 days per annum from joining) and all dash8 pilots less block hours so things are looking brighter. |
Things are supposed to improve however I'm getting overtime payments this month I'm flying so much (not working any days off) and I still have standbys left... I haven't had much disruption this winter so far though.
@MoeFreeman: Not trying to put you off just want to give another perspective. On the whole I'm quite happy here. |
Overtime??
Sorry should have clarified in my original post, above a certain number of block hours you get paid more, supposed to compensate for working hard but to be getting it in winter is disappointing.
Anyone willing to discuss this in a private message? I'm having a small crisis here :ugh:
Hi guys. I passed the whole selection for FO and I'm waiting to be contacted by Flybe to start the course. Can anyone tell me how long Flybe take to call you up ? For me its already been almost 2 months without hearing from them.
Well, I attended the selection and didn't even make the interview stage. I guess I'm not Flybe material. I only wish there were some feedback rather than wait a year and try again. I'm 53 and can't wait that long.
I feel rather like an older lady who's made herself up to look younger, been knocked back and ends up feeling ashamed for trying. Who am I kidding? Well, time to get back on the horse. All the best to those who made it. |
Sorry it didn't work out BB, I guess that was the CTC selection. The company has taken some of the selection back in house as they have had problems with it previously.
Keep in touch with the recruitment people. |
They've only taken direct entry captain selection back in-house, not first officer recruitment.
Flybeebed
Bummer you didn't make interview - I assumed everyone was interviewed and group exercised regardless of PILAPT result...?
BB if you were assessed by CTC for a FO position suggest you approach Flybe directly for DEC. Others have done so successfully, I'm told.
Hi gays, I am attending to a DEC on Q400, has anybody info about the assessment; interview, simulator profile?.

You're probably not going to appreciate my reply, but what you ask is precisely the reason we took the DEC command selection process back "in house". If everyone learns the interview questions parrot fashion and can fly the profile with their eyes shut, then what are we really getting? In the past, people got job offers without being adequately probed but when they started their Sim training, we'd find out "in a heartbeat" that actually they weren't as good as they'd have had us believe. What would then ensue was an embarrassing episode of hand wringing, bull$hit excuses, shifting blame onto others, failing LST's, extra training, poor base training, possible demotion to FO or ultimately termination. If you're good enough to have been picked out of a bunch of applicants for an interview, then one would hope that given a bit of homework by yourself and paying attention to the brief they give you, then, if you've got a modicum of common sense and can fly to a standard commensurate with your supposed experience, then you shouldn't have a problem. Ultimately we want to find out about you and see if you can fly so that, putting it bluntly, we don't waste our time. I would humbly suggest that now it's all been brought back "in house", that finding out what questions Fred Bloggs was asked isn't really going to help you as the interviewers are quite good at sifting bull$hit. And the profile is such that the instructors that do it can actually tell whether or not the person can fly; they need to as we've been stung too many times. But quite honestly if you CAN actually fly, it's really not that hard. Just be yourself, be honest and fly accurately. Best of luck. |

Hi gays, |

I couldn't help but notice that you have already been offered a job with Air Baltic (Air Baltic information forum). You also have an assessment with Flybe. I am really pleased for you (I am not being sarcastic, I mean it). The only thing I would like to say to you is work your way through, without boasting so much. If you are a Commander, I am sure you are well capable of succeeding in your interview. There are many pilots around, who cannot afford to fund a type rating, and they are really struggling to get a single interview. All the best. |
And the sim assessment is made on the e-jet ! Easy plane to fly ! Been one of the E-jet contractor took by flybe 2 years ago and on the dash 8 now full contract, if you fly a dash regularly, the e-jet will be soooo comfy and no catch !
Hello. First of all, my apologize to those I may have offended with my mistake writting "a" instead of "u".
Secondly, BusterHot, I completely agree with you about the way you and flybe think regarding the selection process. It is quite comprehensible you to want the best pilots and trainable ones. I hope to be one of them. I am doing my best to be prepared for technical questions since I finished my aeronautical studies long time ago.... Ah! one last thing, I do not like boasting at all, It was not my intention to look like that. Sorry again just in case, and I wish all of you a good weekend. Good luck all of you. |
What are the chances of getting an EXT base at Flybe?
In what capacity?
FO - reasonable CP - slim to none |
@FIRGCCC:
You do know that you can go back and edit your own posts don't you? |

Amusingly, during the line training he complained that I was making too many notes in his training file, to which I replied "well if you wrote down a few notes yourself, I wouldn't have to!" the fare paying public deserve better |

Three aircraft that are owned by Flybe (not leased) are currently available for primarily for sale, although lease options available.
Effected aircraft are; G-JEDU, G-JEDV and G-JEDW - these are the aircraft Flybe purchased in 2014 at the end of their leases. Must be downsizing the fleet a fair amount, with two Embraer's being leased to Stobart Air this summer, too. |
