I understand your point and maybe my choice of the word 'moaning' wasn't my best, and I don't begrudge people discussing work issues, contracts, rosters and so on, but there has to come a time when one excepts the state of our industry.
I would fight to the bitter end for a 'Norwegian' contract as I was promised many years ago, but unfortunately the reality is I don't think it'll ever happen how ever hard we and BALPA stamp our feet.

I can understand your point of view, but I can't totally agree with it unfortunately. But one thing I can agree on is how we have both been lied to regarding employment etc, regardless of long or short haul.

I have to agree I don't think much will change either, but I will keep banging my feet though.

PNH. If the whole industry was in the place that Norwegian want to take it then you would have a point. But it isn't and accepting that it will be is a massive mistake.

I am grateful that DB keeps the audience here up to date on what seems to be going on within Norwegian. It gives candidates a better understanding to make their employment choice.

I have the NLH screening due in a couple of weeks. Anybody who got through it can shed some light on the training bond requested? I've never done it before.

For those of you without the rating and worried about the bond; you could join Rishworth, get the rating and time on type with Norwegian, then seek employment with an airline. A way out of the bond might be to notify Norwegian you empathize with Caitlyn Jenner and are considering a gender change. Attending the admin office wearing stilettos and a flirty little black number should do the trick.

Can any UK guys with NLH shed some light on the bond please? Is the only option in the UK to cough up the money or is there somewhere one can get the bank guarantee letter as it seems common to do in Europe? Cheers!

The selection process is described on Norwegian's webpage in the introduction text to where you apply.

It says:

"The first step is to fill out and submit your CV and application. You will then receive an e-mail confirming the receipt of your application. In addition you will be sent an invitation to do five online tests."
[...]
"Applicants that fulfill the requirements for the position and successfully pass the online tests and background checks including references check, will be contacted via e-mail if advancing further in the assessment process. Please note that it is an ongoing recruitment process."

As I understand, if you don't hear anything after you have completed the online tests, it simply means that you have passed it and wait for the next step. Norwegian will contact you only if you fail something or go further in the process.

Hear they have thousands of applications why they probably cannot reply with a separate email to each individual. They are not so many people doing the recruitment. It's a LCC.

Heard from a friend that screened this week that they screen 250 pilots only this summer; June, July and August. Impressive. :ok:

The EU Commission has invoked an arbitration process that “could take several months” (in addition to any election delays) to consider US permit applications by NAI and NA UK:-

Norwegian has the longest pending application in the history of the Open Skies Agreement. I doubt it will receive any further consideration until after Clinton or Trump’s inauguration. Clinton has already stated she is against granting Norwegian a US permit.

Unfortunately, the hiring practices, exact contract terms and conditions and other elements of the Norwegian regime are becoming more and more secretive. While witch-hunts are conducted against staff providing information Norwegian perceives as critical, we will wait in vain for any answers. In the meantime:-

The President of Irish Airline Pilots Association, Captain Evan Cullen, has written a letter to the Irish Times blasting Norwegian’s “dubious employment practices”. Captain Cullen also admonishes the Irish press for their “ill informed” comment and “scant coverage” of the facts provided by those opposing Norwegian’s circumvention of employment laws:-

Norwegian claims that Irish employment law will apply to crew, however, no sample Irish contract of employment has been provided to the DOT.

Captain Cullen believes that Cork is being used as a pawn in Norwegian’s proposed Cork Boston service and has stated that, based on their existing traffic rights, Norwegian could start a Cork-Boston service tomorrow if they so desired. The people of Cork and Irish press are apparently unable to grasp this fact:-

Use all means to seek information on any Norwegian “employment” adventure. Despite a company policy soliciting initiative (OM A 1.4.1), Norwegian would prefer you didn’t use it. A willingness to accept Norwegian’s endemic and morally reprehensible management hypocrisy from the CEO down, will be more beneficial. Another prime example:-

Not a surprise at all... Are you suggesting other legacy airlines don't use lobbyists in Washington to advocate for their positions? All Euro legacies (IAG, LH, AF/KLM) are scared to death of opening the door further to NLH. Who wouldn't be? The real winners: lobbyists for both sides who are ecstatic with their growing incomes....

Those conventional airlines don’t make statements to the press criticizing Kjos for paying lobbyists while paying lobbyists themselves – that would be hypocrisy, a moral failing at which Norwegian’s management excels.

Let me remind you of the biggest morally reprehensible hypocrisy of the Norwegian regime:

It's possible the so-called “representation” of Norwegian’s agency pilots is suffering the equivalent of a ‘Stockholm syndrome’. They certainly seem cooperative in their continued labor rights abuse by Norwegian.

Not a very realistic Sim for a commercial airline operation. Push push push until you start making mistakes. I got the gig more by luck and an excellent FO with me, than anything else but many good guys will fail this. Group exercise total waste of time.

Is there much chance of Norwegian 737 drivers being recruited onto the 787 , and if so has there been many in the last while.

I did not find the sim all that unreasonable. Is it realistic for a commercial airline operation, no, but it is effective at seeing how you react to stress. I think that is what they are looking for more than anything.

Of course they are going to push you in the sim, Everybody can press VNAV LNAV CMD B....
They need to check how you react to stressful situations.

It just so happens that I spoke with a young man (younger than me) who had just completed the NLH sim check in OSL a few months ago. He told me that it was quite straightforward and fair and devoid of too many problems. He passed by the way.

Depends what you are looking for stress is not the issue. Stress can be applied in many ways. If this was your first job then yes you want to see if a guy can pole around, fly a raw data ILS etc but this is for a 787. You want a guy that can identify a problem then calmly and systematically work through that problem to return to safe flight. Ypu want to see if he can use initiative to work out whats going on, how much time is available, prioritise. Throwing in atc calls like we need you on the ground in 3 minutes is just BS.
I don't think I demonstrated anything that made me stand out as a good captain. Just my opinion of course.
