Yes that is how it is. Anyway easyjet has staffed all vacancies for 2020 they told me on pilot expo in Berlin last friday. No furher recruitment this year anyway.

No further recruitment this year, but hopefully they will give start dates to the people already in the pool... or did they tell you something else ?
That coronavirus created a huge mess...

it doesn’t take a genius to know that European airlines will not hire external pilots within the next 18month.

dirk85 22nd March 2020 21:42

Cadets due to start on monday have just had their contracts voided.

I can’t imagine any recruitment for the foreseable future in easyJet or anywhere else in Europe.

Maxymus3 22nd March 2020 21:47

There won’t be any unfortunately. Even cargo had to cancel screenings due to Corona (aerologic, was supposed to be there next week). Lufthansa wants to get rid of around 100 aircrafts. That’s means current pilots will float the market. Bad times mate

It's going to be like this everywhere for the next two years at least. And I'm trying to be optimistic.

flocci_non_faccio 23rd March 2020 08:09

Massively optimistic. I can't see any realistic prospect of any recruitment for the next decade.

Too Pessimistic. Cheap fuel, cheap aircraft and cheap crew. The industry will shrink by a third but then grow at 20% per year for 5 years.

Does anyone know how the holding pool is managed during a crisis like that?
I mean is it still valid a few years later or is it cancelled and back to the recruitment phase?

louisFLIGHT 19th April 2020 09:12

I'm in the talent pool, I finished my training in February, no news from EZY since February... We were supposed to start the Type rating around September.

Sorry but that will most likely not happen.

Hi there
although I am not a pilot I am the father of a 21year old who went down the road of mpl training with easyjet and completed his full training plus simulator at gatwick on airbus a320 only to have his contract voided bu easyjet three days before his base training to get his licence, I know these are unprecedented times but he was so close to getting his licence and now it has left him with a £125k bill to pay and no job, We are also concerned about how long his certification will last before it will need renewing, he has got a reply from BALPA who cannot really help in the present circumstances.

Nobody knows because there has never been a similar situation.
They might extend the holding pool but I would be extremely surprised if there was any recruitment in the next 2/3 years, so I would not hold my breathe.
Pilots in easyJet are bracing for possible redundancies, recruitment is on nobody’s mind at the moment

Sorry to say that but this is so stupid to invest this amount in order to get a job. Aviation is a very unstable market and a good pilot always have a plan B.
Cheers

I am very sorry indeed to hear this. My five cents are that you should check with the flight school whether this situation classifies as grounds for them to provide some free additional training to convert the MPL into a frozen ATPL. I know that on past occasions this was done whenever the integrity of the airline was deemed to be at risk (e.g. during one of the past FlyBe crises). I don't know whether it will work this time round, but anyways, good luck!

Very sorry to hear about the situation that you and your son have found yourself in, along with the rest of us. What we have been hearing from upper management is that they are trying to preserve as many jobs as possible. Your guess is as good as mine, and I don't think that anyone really knows how this situation will develop. My advice would be to sit tight until we start flying again( as the back-office is currently furloughed). And then try to see what easyjets intentions are, and go from there. If it looks like it might take years or worse( airlines historically have tended to rather take flight school students who have freshly graduated over graduates who have been sitting around waiting for a while)
It mighy be worthwhile to convert from mpl to frozen ATPL. Consider uni. One thing is for sure this to will pass. And if you are flexible, patient and with sufficient funds you will find a find a flying job.
All the best, and I hope that it all works out for you and your son.

I am sorry to hear that larki but like others have said here the best is to convert the licence into a frozen ATPL and if possible do some uni or any job (if dont want to have another loan) and then wait until all this goes. When I finished my ATPL in 2004 there were not many jobs available in the airlines so my father suggested to do a flying instructor course and that was the best thing for me at that moment, I was able to find a job in a FTO and spent 3 years flying as a flight instructor, I also towed gliders.
Maybe general aviation and uni or a job at the same time could help and your son should be ready with his knowledge fresh when the airlines recruit again.

Al the best!
