Can anyone post a typical roster or Send it by PM.
Just to have an idea on work pattern, specially considering long flight from the canarias. |
No average roster
The roster will depend on the base you have and if you ask for nights away from base or return to base each night, there is some roster experimentation going on at the moment, as an example LGW pilots are getting 5 on 4 off at the moment on a trial basis.
So your request for a typical roster is a not going to come up with anything accurate unless you choose a base, then you could at least get a look at a typical roster for that base. |
I heard that they chose not to pay the extra required to include "preferences" in the new rostering programme. Hoping that is untrue , but I know how these things often pan out.
Without that addition, I would imagine expressions of preference may (as they have been up to now as far as I have seen /am told by colleagues) be rather less successful than notes to Santa Claus. |

any chance to get a look at the trial roster for LGW. And the basic salary for those at LGW. I have a good idea on the roster and Salary for those in spain but have no idea for LGW |
For people with wife/husbands and children what is the roster like for commuting? As at the moment my current fixed roster is the only thing keeping me where i am.
I see it says min 12days off with 2 blocks of 3/4 but what about the other days? Thanks. |
Waiting for interview date as DEC on 737 I have been advised that CAE PARC is now dealing with recruitment for NAS.
Interview should be in LGW. HR + 1h30 sim per candidate + personality test home made before interview. Any more details about that "new" selection process ? Many Thanks. |
15 courses from Jan-march 200 pilots around 60 F/o positions, how you see the job largely depends upon where you live, want to live or are able to live.
If it fits you'll love it, but a lot commute, then you have to pick your base carefully, if you live in the UK away from the London area then it can be a pain, crew turnover is normally for personal reasons due home life rather than any fault with the company. The northern UK base when it comes will make a major difference to many |

MAN is the most likely candidate, but not a strong rumour at this time. It would possibly feed (domestic) quite nicely into LGW for long haul too.

Are NAS likely to recruit Experienced Non Rated First Officers next year?

Naturally, they prefer experienced/rated guys & girls, due to the shorter conversion course. They have in the past, taken about a dozen MPL graduates too. I think it all depends in the supply, mainly being, how many more Ryanair folk feel like jumping ship. There are many that have, myself included, and many others in the pipeline too. The only person who can really give you an idea now, is Bjorn Hansen.

Just my opinion of course (although one that many of my colleagues share) but the feeling is if/when the Bus arrives , it will neither be in NAS colours, nor based in Europe. The other theory is that the order was either placed to get the best deal from both Boeing/Airbus &/or to sell the delivery slots, &/or to block competitors ability to get a hold of new aircraft &/or to set up a leasing company & make some bucks that way.
There was a rumour doing the rounds at one point that NAS management had been seen visiting Vueling. . . . . . |

I have heard similar, but that then leaves a big gap in deliveries between late 2014 and very late 2017 for the max, it was for this reason that the bus order was stated, the Neo bus has lower fuel burn that the NG, the max lower than the Neo (in theory )
I gather further new route announcements are on the cards in January, mainly from the Spanish bases, i see WAW-BCN just announced. I would expect more German routes |
Out of interest, has there been any word about how many airframes they intend to park at LGW? I know its due to become a big operation for Norwegian, but is this to be achieved by flying in aircraft from Spanish bases or by aircraft actually based at LGW?
What is the word on the northern UK base? Is this anything more than rumour? |

I think the answer is both, LGW is capacity restrained at peak times, so night stopping aircraft or based aircraft will only form part of the picture i understand 4 based unit for the New Year growing to 6 or 8 later in the year, although this may include the 787.
I think any growth in the UK outside of LGW will take the same pattern with Spanish based units flying to/from the UK, it may come this Summer (2014) but i would be very surprised not to see TFS on sale in the Midlands/Northern England an Scotland by mid year for next winter 14/15, early departures from the Spanish mainland work well because the time difference means your landing after the first wave of based aircraft and attractive outbound times for punters, people seem less worried about arrival times when coming back home, i would guess that the recently announced Tui charter work at LGW would probably extend Northwards, Norwegian have a massive charter operation in Scandinavia. |
2014 will see at least another 4 (possibly 6) based aircraft at LGW, plus the Dreamliner. Not sure at this stage if the Dreamliner will have a flight crew base at LGW, or just be operated on the U.S. routes from there.

Commuting
As NAS move into the North of the UK it matters not if there is a Base at Liverpool or Manchester just as long as there is enough in the way of connections to the pilots base airport
Commuting is relatively easy with NAS enabling a pilot to live any place on the network that has reasonable connections with his or her base, accommodation is dirt cheap in Spain making AGP or ALC prime targets for commuting. |
Notice the job advert for contract pilots has been removed recently. Is that of any significance?

Norwegian B737 Pilot selection (Updated)
I've heared the rumour that new joiners get a permanent contract right away now. Is this true? I've just got my arpi one and starting jan 20th

"Wholly owned Subsidiary" "Employed" I believe the NPU are still failing in their remit to oblige Norwegian to accurately define exactly what any of these terms means, for concerned "employees". For me, I think it is simple. A company (not an agency "sponsored" by NAS/NAN/NAI/whatever ) which is owned by, & also managed by, employees (real ones) of what used to be known as Norwegian Air Shuttle / A contract with no end date & the usual notice periods associated with a "permanent" contract & obligations on the part of the employer associated with a "permanent" contract I.E they pay the social contributions etc, in your country of base NORMALLY paid by the employer ( sometimes a not inconsiderable sum, and one AFAIK that is still being "avoided" ( please correct me if I am wrong) = "Permanently employed by Norwegian", anything else is just a rehash of the stuff Ryanair guys are running away from (ironically perhaps, in increasing numbers to NAS ) This would be a good start, and probably what ARPI will eventually offer, when they become the "chosen child" masquerading as a "wholly owned subsidiary". If you were tempted to compare the ARPI/NAS relationship with Brookfield/Ryanair, (similarities may be found ? ) you may then feel it is prudent to ask , what exactly constitutes "employment", never mind "permanent employment" . If you examine the real roots/country of origin etc of ARPI it could possibly be eye opening. This whole scenario is still yet far from 100% transparent (sorry to say ) |

Has anyone got any info on how the 5/4 roster trial went at LGW?

A LGW based colleague told me his Jan roster wasn't 5/4 . . . which would suggest not so well. Truly hoping that isn't the case, as it was a fairly fundamental improvement for the many based guys not living in the SE of England, one that we had hoped would filter down to the other contract bases.

Nrn, I'm currently based in LPA. In my case I received a transfer to my requested base (lgw in May) after my second day after arriving in LPA. From what i have seen nas try's to keep its pilots happy.

I was just given BGO. A bit afraid of how all the tax will work out (i'm danish). Will be there untill end of September, on the K-contract, and then i'm hoping for Gatwick!!

Lots of flights to/from NAS major hubs to increase commuting options and you also have a very extensive network from the orange brigade... |

I can only assume it is the delights of downtown Crawley :eek: Lots of British guys who are not from the SE of England find commuting from AGP/ALC easier & actively avoid LGW as a base, conversely many from CPH find it the best option in lieu of a Scandi basing. As was mentioned a few posts above, did the Nov/Dec 5/4 trial become permanent, or was it (as someone told me ) dropped ? |
