PAPI-74 3rd November 2010 11:36

The trouble is, when the glossy mags like FI print bulls**t about pilot shortage, more FNG's will flick to the expensive back ads and sign up.

We are in a serious 'chicken and egg' situation here, that is still a long way off being resolved.:oh:

CHECHE 3rd November 2010 12:08

Yeah, all of you guys are probably right, but then (maybe I'm wrong) why did they request 1000 TT for FO position?
Is a 1000 TT pilot a cadet? := and therefore what are the requirements going to be for future recruitments in other companies?

F..... I'm going to be unemployed for ever!!!! even with a good experience.:ouch:

NDeBile 3rd November 2010 12:12

Dr E,

I suspect they are looking for cheap cadets and those who will work for the lower salary. Same as everyone else these days. Experience is a hindrance in this depressing market.

4000TT, plenty jet, TP command. No call.

Cadet here and no call !

Rgds,

NDB

Burger81 3rd November 2010 12:36

1000TT?!

CHECHE,

On the requirements page, i see no mention of the requirement of 1000hrs TT for the FO positions.
I and a few mates are all low houred guys with little or no experience and none of us have been contacted yet either.

Burger81

captgeorgekajo 3rd November 2010 12:40

BA HR dept have confirmed that they have contacted everyone they want for interviews now. If we haven't had a call then expect an email by the end of this week or early next.

:-(

gdukkoq 3rd November 2010 13:05

Really... that's sad... 3000TT 2600JAR25 500JetPIC............ Help !!!

Emb190 3rd November 2010 13:47

For those not yet invited to an interview don't worry just yet, there might be are a few more FO positions available in say oh....4 months. ;)

Emb190/A330

james1013 3rd November 2010 13:55

Emb190 - are you predicting and little FO exodus from BACF then?

RJ100 3rd November 2010 14:01

Reading Emb190's post very carefully I'd say there will be at least one more FO spot open in the new Year if not more..:oh:

Emb190.. if it's what I supect well done. I knew you really wanted that one. (that's if you're who I think you are ;) )

timzsta 3rd November 2010 16:00

1150 hours, FI, didn't get a call. A friend has nearly 2000 hours and FI no call. And we both live in Essex near LCY.

BUT NEVER EVER EVER GIVE UP:ok:

Happy Wanderer 3rd November 2010 16:26

Ah, there's never been any room for logic in recruitment...:ugh:

HW

I'm Off! 3rd November 2010 16:47

Congrats in order Emb190? If so, then well done!

Nothing heard from BACF yet for me, guess it's a PFO...

2600TT

FlyingApe 3rd November 2010 17:01

Are you sure?

Really, only come here if you have no previous experience or are absolutley desperate. T´s & C´s are the worst in the UK !
They tried to bond us all recently on a forced change of type- I don´t think many were stupid enough to sign the bond.
Beware.

:yuk:

Deep and fast 3rd November 2010 17:02

PFOs for those not given an interview date.

I passed interviewed and sim check at the last recruitment drive and have been told there is now a change of criteria. My guess is FTE grads on £25k

FYI 3200hrs, most on a similar jet.

Cheers D and F :8

FlyingApe 3rd November 2010 17:06

Your dead right D&F. Cash is the sole driver in this industry now- the rest is just lip service..

james1013 3rd November 2010 18:11

Where on the application was the box for "pounds in your bank account"? I must have missed that and just filled in the "hours in your logbook" bit.

oh well, next time I'll attached a scan of a blank cheque :E

RJ100 3rd November 2010 18:58

FlyingApe,

Have heard today that they have even resorted to sending threatening letters to those who have yet to sign the Bond. Talks about being escalated to your Line Manager. But BALPA reps say those who failed should sign it. A Forced move and making ALL sign a bond for said move. :ugh:

RJ.

PAPI-74 3rd November 2010 19:02

I didn't go for the cheque, and was more direct. Drawing a pound sign £££ on each cheek and attaching the scan to my C.V. seemed funny at the time......

time4parties 4th November 2010 15:39

I would not say they are going for FTE grads... having been recommended to BACF 2 weeks ago and being told today they don't actually want us. Cheers for getting our hopes up though!

FlyingTinCans 4th November 2010 16:04

Has anyone received a PFO yet?

Or are CityFlyer just not going to bother?

justanotherstat 4th November 2010 16:11

PFO's by early next week at the latest. Some applicants kept on file for future recruitment - thus the delay in getting emails out.

PAPI-74 4th November 2010 16:14

You didn't fall for their Airline Mentored Scheme did you. What a load of b@ll@ck*!
And as for the MPL; if that isn't an accident waiting to happen, what is?

dboy 4th November 2010 17:14

So no one invited here? If so, what is your experience?

And what is "PFO"?:uhoh:
cheers

justanotherstat 4th November 2010 17:18

Please F*?! Off:=

1st question is a good one tho.......... Confess people:D

Happy Wanderer 4th November 2010 17:37

There's a few invitees if you care to scroll back through the last few pages. Can anyone confirm the earlier post that all would-be attendees have now been notified?

HW

justanotherstat 4th November 2010 17:48

Can anyone confirm the earlier post that all would-be attendees have now been notified?
Yes - from BACF HR

Mohit_C 5th November 2010 08:19

It seems that the selection criteria was based on a "minimum hours" requirement. Not that it came up in the job description, I think 1000 hours ME time was the minimum.

CHECHE 5th November 2010 08:22

I got 1600 TT, 1100 in turboprop and I haven't received the call.... I don't think 'minimum hours' was the criteria. :hmm:

PAPI-74 5th November 2010 09:20

Maybe they have called everyone with the Christian name of Nigel first:8

justanotherstat 5th November 2010 11:00

Criteria - could be anything

Guys and girls, trying to second guess the criteria is utterly pointless. I heard yesterday that they had 1500 applications for the positions which they had to whittle down to approx 60 interviewees. Virtually every pilot from the Turboprop companies operating at LCY applied, as well as many type rated pilots (from the other regional airline that pays a lot more apparently) and also RJ pilots currently operating at LCY.

Now these pilots fit one or more of the following criteria:

1. 1000's of hours multi crew
2. Type rated
3. Jet Experience
4. London City Experience
5. European Experience
6. Command potential
I'm sure you can name others.....

The fact that so many have that level of experience, probably justifies PAPI-74's theory for selection criteria

Maybe they have called everyone with the Christian name of Nigel first
although they could just as well find 60 experienced 'Marks' or 'Living in London' or 'Integrated' etc.

Together with wanting a mix of low hour guys as well to keep a balance of experience throughout the company then these numbers reduce further.

The fact is there are so many of us TP guys out there full of hours and experience because we have been unable to move on, due to the static market, cadetships etc. There a plenty of jet pilots who believe the grass is greener or see a seat change opportunity or just better job security, and there are plenty of wannabees looking for their first job.

Add these three bodies of applicants together and you have one hell of a job sorting through them.

Finding the exact criteria is like the proverbial needle in the haystack.

PAPI-74 5th November 2010 11:16

First name Nigel?
Able to pull a fluffy white bunny out of your arse on demand?
Able to wear a hat so low that your ears stick out?

Wodka 5th November 2010 11:57

justanotherstat... Excellent summary of the problem we are all facing

No call for me either was very disappointed but understanding the size of the CV pile goes along way to ensure I don't get too disheartened. Pick yourself up, have a few beers and carry on :ok:

Second guessing airline recruitment techniques is fairly pointless but the old boy network is alive and well so maybe this plays a hand too :suspect:

Minchiarello 5th November 2010 12:23

When first got the "generic mail" I was confident and by reading the thread I was expecting a call...:8

I have the requirement ... type, Hrs, LCY eXp. ecc ...

BUT NEITHER CALL NOR email yet.....:{

Anyway good luck to all

judge11 5th November 2010 14:00

justanothersat.................you have hit all the nails on the head except one: the unfathomable and usually illogical processes of BA HR.

There will undoubtedly be many very able, very experienced, first-class crew who will/have missed out on both Cityflyer and the Mainline selection due to the vaguaries of the above mentioned department.

Regretably, the day that touchy-feely HR 'experts' became involved in pilot selection was the day that it all became a word-processing lottery to secure a seat.:{

Blueskiesforevermann 5th November 2010 14:56

Here is a little trick

........................

judge11 5th November 2010 15:28

QED

The reign of the touchy-feely, inclusive policy driven HR 'generalists' rule the roost.

Piloting, management and command skills - unitelligible concepts to the powers that now run airlines. Oh! What did flying aircraft have to do with airlines, again? Remind me - memo to HR.:ugh:

jock_mcjock 5th November 2010 17:19

Just what I've been saying for years

I applied, and I applied and applied.... one resume had my real name and experience, the other two had false names..... and the same experience... one name was Baldwinder Chana and the other was a female named
Aaliyah Ulanda http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...ilies/evil.gif... the real sick part is that both bogus email addys (Mr. Chana and Ms. Ulanda) both got a response for an interview.... same thing happened when I tested the waters 2 years ago at FlyBehttp://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...ilies/evil.gif ... just goes to show you that there are many more dynamics and quotas than you will ever be able to distinguish.... and, yes, my email (with my real name) never got even a shake!
Blue,

You've nicely highlighted what I've believed for sometime now.
Take 2 or 3 people with identical experience and the deciding factor will then come down to being seen to meet some artifical 'quota' of so called 'minorities'. Seen it in action a few times too, although obviously can't pove it.

Right, well I've booked in for my sex change operation next month and as of today have offically converted to the Rastafari Movement. Just need to come up with a suitable name and I'm sorted ;)

Wodka 6th November 2010 10:03

Did anyone get a PFO yesterday then?

Phenom100 6th November 2010 10:28

NO PFO for me yet, hoping it won't come...

max_continuous 6th November 2010 11:10

No PFO as of yet, but as I'm recently qualified, low-hours I expect that I and many of my peers are at the bottom of a fairly lengthy list...
