No PFO as of yet, but as I'm recently qualified, low-hours I expect that I and many of my peers are at the bottom of a fairly lengthy list...
Given what most people are saying on here, you sound as if you'll be at the top of their list.

max_continuous 6th November 2010 14:42

Well there is a post in the wannabes forum from a chap saying he has an interview with 270TT but I can safely say that neither I nor any of my friends in a similar position have heard anything.

VFE 6th November 2010 16:42

I think it comes down to perceived 'mouldability'. A young pup fresh from training is more of a blank canvass than a grisly 30 something instructor with a coupla thousand hours in little aeroplanes. The fact the latter has built up a wealth of aviation related skills and experience may be viewed as secondary in a multi crew environment where procedure is paramount?

VFE.

timzsta 7th November 2010 17:43

Is that the procedure where if you the stick shacker activates you pull back on the stick and raise the flaps.....

Being i grizzy 30 something FI I must have been teaching my students wrong this weekend!

VFE 7th November 2010 17:52

Ya know something Timzsta - the closest I have come to ending up in a wooden box in 5 years of instructing was flying with a fresh faced 200hr Oxford grad who almost spun us in on a PFL. They obviously thought that pulling back on the stick in a 45deg decending turn against stall buffet 500 feet AGL was a smart move...

Said whizzkid then capped off the flight by landing with feet squarely on the toe brakes. I learnt about instructing that day!

They have been flying the line with a UK airline for some time now and I'm still dodging the bullets on a daily basis. :{

timzsta 7th November 2010 17:58

VFE - I found out through a social networking site recently somebody I did a night qualification for 2 years ago is now an FO at lo co, started there in July having paid for a TR. I have applied numerous times to said operator, not even an interview, even with a written recommend from a Training Captain in the company. What hope?

Anyways I enjoyed teaching stalling today, and my IFR trip to Liverpool and back on Friday in a complex single.

excrab 7th November 2010 18:15

VFE and Timzsta

Sadly guys, much as I hate to say it being a self improver myself, after 24 years of instructing ranging from microlights through SEP to MEP then heavy turbo-prop and light jets I have had no real problems with low houred CPL holders, and I would be surprised if I could tell the difference between a 250 hour CPL holder and a 1000 hour VFR instructor if I flew with them on the day after their final line check in a complex multi-crew operation.

The only candidate I ever actually failed on a multi-crew LST was a 1500 hour instructor who crashed twice on a V1 cut. But after a couple of hours of re-training he passed the second time and eventually became a very competent airline captain...everyone has good and bad days whatever their background and experience.

If I was recruiting I would look for actual IFR experience - single crew air taxi and corporate flying helped me when I became an F/O, I don't really think that 3500 hours of ab-initio instructing helped me at all until I became a line trainer and eventually TRI/TRE.

Back on topic if anyone is still interested, no phone call and no PFO letter (yet) - 14000 hrs tt with light and medium jet and turboprop command time well in excess of their requirements. But no point second guessing what they wanted - anyone they select will do them a good job when they finish type and line training.

Thats life...time to move on.

timzsta 7th November 2010 18:25

There's always another online application to do...

BA777 7th November 2010 18:26

Absolutely right, life goes on and we must never ever give up!

Good luck to those who did get an interview, feedback on the selection would be welcome for any future recruitment with BACF.

VFE 7th November 2010 19:41

Sound words there excrab.

Rather poor form of me to bring up the 200hr story but it's been another long day of instructing! lol

Onwards and upwards... :)

VFE.

Muvo85 10th November 2010 11:15

PFO email received today,

960TT, (school hrs + 740hrs F/O on a twin otter).

All hope on LH IT and their selection process now

stijn 10th November 2010 11:32

Just received the "PFO" 15 minutes ago.

justanotherstat 10th November 2010 11:46

Me too, not even kept on file. Again I'd like to know what exactly they want.......... As previously posted I have command time at LCY - thousands of hours etc

Good luck to all of those successful

Phenom100 10th November 2010 12:24

I've just got the no thanks too, and wishing me the best of luck in the future.......

Mohit_C 10th November 2010 13:01

Ditto. 176 TT:ok:

Dreamshiner 10th November 2010 13:01

PFO for me too, bit a long shot as I'm rated on a wide-body and modular.

From what I've read through so far on here, if I lied and put down I was an Oxford grad, female and from an ethnic minority my chances would have improved drastically.

Alexairway 10th November 2010 13:15

Unfortunately, in this instance, your application has not been successful

You know things are bad when receiving your PFO feels slightly positive in that they deem you worthy of a response!

Got mine today too. Congrats to everyone else who got their acknowledgment today! :}

VFE.

I'm Off! 10th November 2010 18:55

PFO for me too. Not even retained for future opportunities. Guess the market really is saturated...!!

Good luck to the guys who did get an invite though.

Wodka 10th November 2010 19:03

maxalphaboy 11th November 2010 10:37

Did anybody have a positive reply from BACF?? I had the below:

I am pleased to confirm that your application has been successful at screening stage. However due to the vast amount of applications we received for this position, we were unable to secure you a place on the assessment days.

We would like to keep your application on file should any future assessment days arise in the future. If you situation changes and you no longer wish to remain on hold for a future assessment with us please contact us so we update our records accordingly.

ahahahaah Excellent :}:}:}

I like the English Humour sometimes. (but sorry for guys affected by this successful failure)

PAPI-74 11th November 2010 15:23

Mine has just landed.
I must admit I am relieved, as becoming a wonnabe Nigel isn't high on my list to be honest.

towser 11th November 2010 16:08

PAPI-74 ; If your relieved why did you bother applying?

PAPI-74 11th November 2010 16:15

Cos the offer I am now taking wasn't on the table.

727Man 11th November 2010 18:36

anyway been reading the thread with interest, got my PFO also.

Modular
F/O 1500 hrs Jet, FE 7300 hrs, Over 20 years aviation experience and a PFO.:E!!

Dreamshiner 11th November 2010 19:58

I wonder if the applicants who got "not interested just now but we'll retain your details if that's OK?" backgrounds are compared to the "PFO, don't darken our door again .... Security!", don't know if any of those pilots would like to outline them?

Training: Modular or Integrated
Hours total to date:
FI qualification: yes or no
Already TR'd, if so what type:
British citizen: yes or no

Would be interesting to see if there was a common factor.

As for me, I got the PFO:

Modular
1,200
No
B757/767
yes

Phenom100 12th November 2010 01:30

Maxalpha,

I'm just curious to know your experience as you have made future assesments.

Modular?

Cheers

Phenom10:rolleyes:

FREQUENTFLYER1234 12th November 2010 02:29

Got the PFO

Modular
2000 hrs
FI, MEI, IRI
No TR
British

Deano777 12th November 2010 08:28

Guys

For the dumb people amongst us (i.e. me), what does PFO stand for?

Thanks :E

stue 12th November 2010 08:44

PFO - Please F**k Off

maxalphaboy 12th November 2010 10:33

Hi Guys,

I know there has been some interest in peoples experience levels, including mine. I have no problem at all sharing. In answer please see below. Sorry to those who on this occasion where not successful.

Training: Modular SSP
Hours total to date: 2000+
FI qualification: No
Already TR'd, if so what type: Q400
British citizen: Yes

I have been flying for 6 years and commercially for 3 years, UK and Europe.

It seems from what I have been reading, in my humble opinion that there is no real standard type of applicant. As always in aviation recruitment I feel it depends on so many factors of which I will never understand.

Hope this insight helps.

Good luck :ok:

Firestorm 12th November 2010 17:41
