I think they are only having 1 x 737NG based at EMA from April so your chances may be slim in getting EMA as a base. I know one Capt who has been with Jet2 for 2 years and is only getting EMA in April, i think there are others on the waiting list too. I do not work for Jet2 so i could be wrong, sure others on here will advise.

Not sure i'd leave Easy LHS though for Jet2 but appreciate being away from home must be hard week in week out. I am presuming you are on the Bus as well.

Cheers

Artie Fufkin 27th January 2012 08:17

All fully crewed at EMA for this summer but, depending on what happens to baby, next summer will almost certainly see more aircraft.

We were told that initial transfers to EMA were to be done on seniority (one FO with less than a year with the company got the base), but all subsequent transfers would be done on order of date of request.

yenab 10th February 2012 16:12

Hi all, what are the typical roster patterns at the mo at jet2? Days on/off, roster period etc..
also can anyone let me know what it's like to work here currently, general mood of the team, stability and such like.
Cheers

MD11Man 19th February 2012 20:31

yenab,

There is no real roster pattern, really... It's quiet in the winter (think I did 3 flights in Jan), the summer is a lot busier. It's rare to get single days off, so there are blocks of work. Up to 6 days in a row during the summer, although that is quite rare.

General mood is quite good from where I see it. Not a massive company, when you've got a question you get an answer. It's a team spirit, there's people to take safely from A to B, everyone's goal seems to be to make that happen (and on time, of course...).

Is that useful info?

Fly26 20th February 2012 18:50

MD11MAN,

Im hoping to join you guys in 2012 (passed selection and paddling in the hold pool still), I noticed a Jet2 aircraft parked up in Southend and I read bits here and there about doing the Ford contract run...just wondered if you apply internally for stuff like that or does management just approach certain crews?

MD11Man 20th February 2012 19:50

Fly26

You just get rostered these things/trips. Sometimes you're lucky, sometimes you're not. It's always an option to ask things, but it is an airline run by people - I'm sure you'd agree you shouldn't ask for a detailed roster day by day, if you know what I mean?

Hope to see you soon! Have you been assigned to a base yet, or is it just in the pool?

Fly26 20th February 2012 21:05

Thanks for that info MD11MAN, yeh I know what you mean :ok: I picked up the people vibe from the selection process to and it seems a great place to be. No I haven't been given a base yet , just in the pool. I'm really hoping I'm lucky enough to get a start for the summer....Fingers crossed!

Im sure we will cross paths if I do, I also meant to ask when the winter months are quiet do you constantly end up on standby or do you get a lot of free days off?...just curious

MD11Man 20th February 2012 21:59

My experience (same fleet) from this winter is that there are quite a few standby's - also, where possible, training seems to be done in the winter.

But there are more days off in the winter, definitely. The summer is when it goes quite a bit busier.

Just seen my March roster, seems new people are still joining then/now, so hope for you you'll get a spot!

Keep me up to date, curious as well!

Fly26 20th February 2012 22:24

okay I see....thats great you can see new people fitting into the roster...always a good sign! I'm hoping then that newbies will also appear on the April roster to, because then I feel I might just get a spot somewhere on the network. I appreciate you guys got swamped by applications so I'm not really sure how far down the list I am of the chaps that got through...hopefully somewhere near the top by now! would make my year anyway!

I will drop you a post if I get a ring/email, thanks for your help :ok:

PPRuNeUser248605 21st February 2012 15:24

Does anyone know if it was common for people to apply to Jet2 and simply never hear anything back from them? I've not had any form of contact other than the initial e-mail saying my application was being processed and that was months ago.

farfadet 21st February 2012 16:56

Hi Fly26!
Also swimming in the 737's pool, BUT... I'm a good swimmer!:ok:
I just hope this holding pool does really mean something.

Fly26 21st February 2012 18:40

hey farfadet
...lets hope! any idea when you might get going? I'm hoping April unless i'm lucky enough to sneak a March slot

farfadet 21st February 2012 19:48

No idea. To be honest i'm not so optimistic.
I don't think i would hear of anything for this summer season.
Since i have been told that my application was put on hold, i didn't get any further info.

I passed the selection via zenon.
What about you? Did you get any further details?

I just hope that this waiting list is real...

Fly26 21st February 2012 20:19

yeh I got the same email by the sound of things, Im through Zenon as well, passed in the batch just before christmas. Its not the first time ive heard the 'not this summer' thought...which is kinda worrying, it would be a shame for it to fall through after all the effort..we should hear something soon we are already getting into the last week of Feb!

farfadet 21st February 2012 20:26

I hope you're right mate!
Keep in touch.

greywind 22nd February 2012 08:31

@olicana it would appear so, I've heard nothing since putting my application in towards the end of last summer. I contacted them in october and they were still processing the application apparently. Still heard nothing.

Shrimps 22nd February 2012 11:08

@olicana Same here.

drag king 22nd February 2012 13:05

Same here, plenty within 2-300 hrs radius from my experience had the call and went through stage I, me not a bean despite couple of "reassuring" chats with Casey of HRs...

Soprano 23rd February 2012 09:13

My stories the same as drag kings

No_Speed_Restriction 4th March 2012 06:32

Here's my Jet2 recruitment story. I have thousands of hours, type rated on the 757 and haven't heard a peep. Heard from other people that their recruitment process is a bit on the disorganized side. I am now in a position to fully agree. Oh well, would of liked to have joined but I guess I'll keep on looking.....

Floppy Link 4th March 2012 13:54

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Exactly what No_Speed_Restriction said.
Hey ho...:uhoh:

Van G 4th March 2012 14:57

Yep same here but 73 rated. Applied a few times over the years and never heard a peep.

MrHorgy 4th March 2012 19:15

Having called jet2 AGAIN in the last month or so to be told "you'll hear either way", and having had an application in since May of last year, i don't hold out much hope. 3,700 hours TT, 3,500 737!

windshear-a-head 5th March 2012 06:35

MrH, very similar here - 4800TT with 3500 on the 737 Classic and NG, the rest is WB time......nadda......first applied around June last year, just updated and re-sent my application.

Penworth 5th March 2012 12:48

Given that the company have stated that they now have a pool of about 100 pilots who have passed the selection but for whom they don't have jobs at the moment, I think it's safe to say that those who have applied but not heard anything are unlikely to be offered a job for this summer. Not saying that this is how it should be, I think the companies communication skills leave a lot to be desired, but I'm afraid that's how it is at the moment.

SEAMASTER 5th March 2012 16:48

Hi no speed restriction are you still at Citi jet, just fancy going back on the Boeing then ?

Herr Piece 5th March 2012 20:47

Jet 2

I am in a similar situation to the above posters, thousands of hours, current on the NG/CL, low cost, low risk and happy to relocate:ok:

I would have thought a well established company such as J2 would have a good IT/HR department. How difficult can it be to send out a standard Yes/Maybe/PFO email?. We are not looking for a gold embossed PFO letter:ugh:

From all accounts the online application form is a complete farce. Many applications disappearing into cyberspace.

Rant Off
Good evening:ok:

jet1234 6th March 2012 11:12

The chaotic shambles that is the recruitment system gives you a pretty good idea of what lies inside the company. However, for those of you naive/stupid/ desperate enough (delete as applicable) to want to find out the hard way, don't worry as the attrition levels are so high they'll always need more.

Tommy Tilt 6th March 2012 14:38

When the H-uman R-emains administrators, in their windowless offices of incompetence, become more powerful than the Flight Operations professionals, say goodbye to any reasonable structure and common sense with regard to pilot recruitment. Animosity and contempt between the two departments will abound.

Fly26 7th March 2012 20:25

Fresh recruitment day? do you mean interviews or recruitment drive to get more people applying?

Firestorm 10th March 2012 11:37

Which aircraft were they recruiting for Scratcher? The 73 or the 75?

binsleepen 10th March 2012 15:50

It was for the 757.

Jet 2 is a good company to work for, particularly in these hard times. The company is continually expanding, all bases are in the UK, we get a 5% pay rise in Apr with a quicker promotion to SFO for those with experience and we probably fly only 500-600 hours a year. Its not the best if you want to live for work but well up there if you want to work to live.

For what its worth the HR director is well aware of the failings of the online recruitment process but it is caused by overwhelming demand. Almost 4000 applications for 80 jobs and almost 400 invited to interview.

The online system is a legacy system from the ChanEx days and is being replaced this summer. The intention is to hopefully to contact those who applied with the right skills and invite them back in the late summer or early autumn.

As well as the pilot recruitment the small HR team had to deal with 16000 other applications for other Jet 2 jobs. As you will appreciate not a small task. Its always disappointing when applications get lost but hopefully the new system will reduce some of the frustrations. Its obviously not great when an individuals first impression of a company is a 'confused' recruitment process.

Regards

Artie Fufkin 10th March 2012 19:17

I understand it was for B757 type rated FOs for fixed contract.

I hazard a guess there were no type rated 75 FOs in the hold pool??

jamieboy 11th March 2012 16:04

Hi, I was wondering if anyone can tell me if that if you are recruited by Jet2 type-rated on the 737 classic does the sim training include the NG or does it depend on where you are based? AM I correct in saying that MAN has 3 NG's and LBA just the one.

Many thanks in advance.

retrosgone 12th March 2012 15:57

Jamieboy

Man has 2 based NGs. The other 2 will be based in GLA for this summer, making a total of 4 (not 5 as stated elsewhere). All other 737 bases will have -300s/300QCs.

jamieboy 12th March 2012 18:38

Thank you Retrosgone

Jet2 Assessment

The compass test is alive and well and appears to be the be all and end all of recruitment. Interview, experience, ability to relocate etc mean nothing. Unless you're young and good at computer games, don't waste your time.

Nearly Man 13th March 2012 07:24

Ahh what would we do without HR drones, gotta love em? Maybe not!
I suppose if you've got a lot of bods applying but they used to have the very hard maths and English test anyway that could be used to filter people.

Still, you work with a nice bunch of people there.

Trossie 13th March 2012 17:17

"Unless you're young and good at computer games, don't waste your time."

... rumour has it that some 'old farts' have got through...!! Quite likely that quite a lot who are "...young and good at computer games..." haven't got through! Square that one with the above quote!

KBill 3rd April 2012 16:32

I had an assessment with Jet2, found HR to be very accommodating. Am currently on reserve, if I do not get through this year I will certainly try again next year.

I have found the recruitment company to be helpfull (as much as they can anyway ;))

Yes the Compass Test is maddening but there are hurdles with most jobs etc... Hope some of you direct guys made it out of the hold pool!

Happy flying to all :ok:
