Hi... just curious...How many people are type rated in the hold pool either on the 320 or other aircraft and how many are fresh out of training?

BIGBAD 13th December 2007 16:58

for those of you in the pool - BMI have been desperate to find any pilots who will take any unpaid leave over first few months of 2008, so looks like there will not be any recruitment for sometime to come.........

scudbus258 21st December 2007 12:02

Merry Christmas Everyone and a Happy New year for us all!

keepitlit 22nd December 2007 10:34

Big,
I think you will find thats old news, more have resigned and the intergration has used more crews than expected causing all hands at the pumps therfore there is just enough at the minute with a few working their notice.
Keep up dear boy!

Merry Xmas to the pool......
All the very best to every fellow fish in 2008! :ok:

{ Any excuse to keep us on the first page of terms and endear/rumours! ;) }

CarltonBrowne the FO 25th December 2007 19:29

Latest rumour I have heard is that 2 suitable 330s have been sourced, in time for summer 2008. Longhaul aircraft are crewed at about 10.5 crews per aircraft, so that should get things moving again. Of course, it is only a rumour...
Remember though, keep those IRs current! (LASORs reference on page 2 of this thread)

scudbus258 26th December 2007 10:50

Would be great if that was true but don't want to get too excited. Can anyone confirm this or has anyone heard the same?

keepitlit 27th December 2007 12:08

And how many standbys do you have and whats your duty hours!

regards

SinBin 27th December 2007 22:54

I have loads of home standbys!!:ugh:

Virgin holding pool

I understand that there is a significant number of ex-BMED pilots in the Virgin holding pool.

5 have left since the integration another 5 are working their notice & a long term mainline Captain left recently.

That said they still complain that they are overcrewed (despite desperately buying days off this month). Come the summer I'm sure we will be short of crew as usual.:ok:

Kempus 4th January 2008 11:15

I spy with my little eye something begining with H.............

BIGBAD 4th January 2008 11:57

keepitlit

don't know which crewroom you're in but there are plenty of chaps been given their part time options - not exactly " all hands to the pumps" - old chap.........

keepitlit 4th January 2008 20:07

When offered a part time position (which they applied for) would indicate it was planned for to happen in the winter period.
There was a lot of wish/hopefuls who applied for part time and when it came to the crunch they didnt/couldnt take up the offer, only a couple took it in the end, not really much to do with crewing issues.
As for 2 sector days thats rostering/crewing, of which I get very few of!
Heard they still buying loads of days!
Oh and im in the right crew room as they are getting their monies worth out of me!

Oh and less of the old I still have S**t loads of years before I see the light at the end of the tunnel dear boy!:E

tonyic7 5th January 2008 19:20

Thanks for all the inside info/views. Anyone heard anything more on the A330's sourced for the summer 08 season? I assume the A321 is still scheduled for May creating a possible intake?? Fingers crossed things will work out for us sooner rather than later, I'm just about hanging in there!

K.Whyjelly 5th January 2008 20:04

Nothing firm on the A330's I'm afraid, still just a rumour. A good rumour nontheless in so much that the airframes are correct engine type (RR) and the cabin is the correct fit. Watching and waiting...........................as always for the facts:hmm:

Interim aircraft option?

Regarding the possibility of adding the 757/767;

Quote:
http://www.atwonline.com/news/other....12%2F24%2F2007

Bmi is looking for additional capacity, possibly 757s or 767-200s, to support growth on several former BMED routes, Chairman Michael Bishop told ATWOnline at the recent Star Alliance meeting in Beijing. "We are looking for interim aircraft to improve the competitive element of our operation to certain destinations, which I can't disclose at the moment. But I can say that three of the routes that we inherited [from former British Airways franchise operator BMED] look to us as if they are capable of almost immediate development and expansion into bigger aircraft," he said.
He added that bmi wants to introduce nonstop services on these three routes, prompting the need for "aircraft with longer legs." The former BMED routes currently are operated with A321s.

Bmi also is planning new routes for its mid-haul network "that will take us further distances away," according to Bishop. "Those will either come into the A330s at some stage in the future or in the immediate future we may be looking for some kind of interim lift to satisfy the demand." Bmi has five additional A330s on order with the first new aircraft expected to be delivered early next year (ATWOnline, July 11).

The interim lift could be provided by either a 757 or a 767-200 despite the fact that bmi's mainline operation is streamlined around an all-Airbus fleet. "Well, you have to adapt to change," Bishop conceded. "We're looking for something in the middle there [between A321s and A330s] to give us more range and more capacity. Besides, we [bmibaby] operate 737s."

Any thoughts?

SinBin 6th January 2008 10:37

Crews and aircraft borrowed, such as the 767 which has been used for years on some charters

Regional Holding Pool

Anyone heard if there is any likely movement on the Bmi Regional Holding Pool to be expected soon. I gather the extra aircraft are no longer happening so I guess it is just a matter of waiting for people to either leave or move up.

Has anybody seen the link on the website to apply for Pilot..... What does that mean for us in the pool? Something or prob nothing.

Cloud Bunny 23rd January 2008 15:55

What link? All i can see is the usual info for Cabin Crew.

I've looked at the bmi recruitment page and also noted the pilot recruitment. Link as follows:
http://www.flybmi.com/bmi/en-gb/abou...cruitment.aspx
I clicked on the pilot recruitment link and it looks as though you can fill out an application form. Don't know how long it's been there so won't get my hopes up yet.....

bmi mainline

I've had a look at bmi's site and also seen pilot recruitment under the cabin crew section. I clicked on the link and by the looks of it you can complete an application. Maybe some good news to come.....???

Cloud Bunny 25th January 2008 10:59

Ahhh, found it!!! :O Oh well I would guess this must be promising, why go to the bother of setting this up if they have no intention of recruiting?
As a side issue does anyone know the starting salary for F/O? Also does it make a difference if you are going in with thousands of hours or just a few hundred as to what payscale you go on?
Heres hoping it's going to start moving soon.

Max Angle 25th January 2008 11:21

2008 Mainline FOs pay scales are:

Year 1 £40,109
Year 2 £45,816 (big jump on year 1 due to 2007 pay deal reducing year 1 salary)

Annual increments of approx. £800-1000

No difference on what you get paid if you have 10,000 hours or 250.

London weighting is now £2800 per year.

Life at bmi has got a whole lot more interesting with the mid haul flying we are now doing and hopefully some more long haul from LHR to come as well. Good luck to all those in the 'pool

Cloud Bunny 25th January 2008 11:46

Max, good info thanks! I remember seeing somewhere (can't remember where) about there being an A scale and a B scale with the B scale being higher? Is that still the case and if so whats the story between the two? (Apart from one being higher than the other!)
Your figures for London Weighting - is that included in the £40,109 or to be added on?

Max Angle 25th January 2008 12:02

London weighting is on top of the basic quoted. We do have scale B which is 10-12% higher but only the very top of the seniority list get it (worked out on the number of widebody airframes we operate).

Cloud Bunny 25th January 2008 12:11

Good man thanks. bmi seems to have such massive potential could/should be a really good job if the management steer it in the right way.
Thanks again and hope all you guys in the pool get out soon - must be freezing!

xwindflirt 25th January 2008 14:49

nothing official but if I were in the hold pool the top third of the two dozen or so might be getting a letter in april:rolleyes::ok: as I said not official but.....

Deano777 25th January 2008 21:16

Excuse my ignorance but can someone explain what "London weighting" is please ?

SinBin 25th January 2008 23:28

extra pay for working in London as it's expensive!!

skylog 28th January 2008 14:49

There seems to be some glitch, since when i go back to continue filling in my application it says'' email address not found'' this has happened twice after i registered again.

Hi Skylog,

You've got the wrong sign in page - try the link below:

I think skylog may have the same problem as me. I completed 90% of the form, just had to nip out for 2 minutes came back to log on and I received a message saying my application has been deleted due to a system error.
Anyone else had this?
Most p*£$ed off!!!:ugh:

I hear on the front line that movement in the pool should start in April/May time. I know of a couple more guys working their notice including me. Anyone else no more for these poor guys?

Go Smoke 29th January 2008 15:48

I think skylog was probably following the link given in his confirmation email which incorrectly takes you to the cabin crew log-in page - it looks almost identical to the flight crew log-in page but, naturally, won't recognise your log-in details.
