Anyone got any idea when we are likely to be out of the Bmi Regional Holding Pool?

Ive heard there are also offers on the table from Northern Rock and Ronald Macdonald!!! :E Looking at previous threads 'BMI is to be taken over' for at least 12 years! Thats either a hell of a lot of paperwork or Sir MB is doing something right to be the constant center of so much speculation.... |

Would you care to explain where you heard this hideous rumour, its enough to make me cry the thought of it! Cany see it myself. bmi is not BA Connect and Flybe would have to be dreaming. I can say however that bmi is overcrewed at the moment. |
What a load of old tosh!! As if a small outfit like Flybe could manage the routes we have now!! There are a lot bigger fish with their eyes on bmi!!
Overcrewed by about 20 pilots apparently but only until the new A330 arrives later next year!! Next thing you will hear is that Martians have landed on 27R!!:rolleyes: |
I wouldn't exactly call flybe a small outfit. However they are two different business models. I wouldn't yet rule out an Aer Lingus/BMI merger. I was reading yesterday that Aer Lingus are adding more 320's to their short hall fleet next year. Coupled to their long hall airbus 350 and 330 orders it would suit both companies to combine their efforts together to take on the long hall market from LHR. On their own both companies will struggle to make any significant impact on this market with Open Skies. It has been rumoured before. I suspect if anything is to happen it will be in the next 12 months?

The flybe rumoured buy out is for bmi regional, but i dont know how close the smoke is to the fire as the CEO was wetting himself over the fuel burn figures of a Q400 and its his front runner for short routes with regional along with
E170/195 for the longer trips. So it would/could fit!, But after SMB sells mainline which train set will he keep! regards Keepitlit |
Flybe + bmi regional + merger = mass pilot exodus
Just to let you know if this scenario did happen, the above would be the inevitable outcome. Flybe would left with yet another huge mess to sort out and no pilots so beware! Demotions on to turbo props are not usually at the top of peoples career development agenda. |
I wouldnt get too wound up as it is only rumour so it will take a few years to happen, just remember bmi is an expanding airline! NOT

I really doubt that a fleet of A330s & A320s would fit into flybe's business model too well particularly as the low cost carriers have always avoided LHR like the plague.
Regional is a possibility though but it does dovetail with mainline quite well so I would imagine that baby would be a more likely option - low cost airline + regional bases. Mainline is trying to reinvent itself as a business carrier again with medium haul routes. Baby's ageing fleet needs investment. Draw your own conclusions! |
The buyout of bmi mainline by flybe is about as likely as President Amedenajad proposing Tehran being twinned with Washington DC...

Well you are damn right any further Flybe mergers would not be popular. But I think we should look from a Flybe point of view. Seniority stinks... Merging would cause a riot. Flybe should NOT target BMIR or for that matter CITY FLYER.
I do feel though if Big Jim goes fishing he will pull out a few offers. Roller |

Nothing till March, Ive heard courses might be happening then but dont quote me, it came from the inner rumour network, heard we are marking time, why I dont know but hope it will change soon.

A March start date is a good rumour - tell enough people and eventually it will happen. On a plus note it gives us enough time to part take in a bit of skiing! JD

I dont think BMI quite know which direction they are going at the moment with the announcment of 5 330's and then 3 weeks later changing their minds.
If i was in the holding pool i would take another job if it suited me. |
Have any of you gus spoke to those who's TR's were chopped last min?
Hate to bring doom and gloom but they were given a date much later than March and that was at the earliest! I do still believe from speaking to Brian and Peter that the jobs are still there but just not for the next summer season and that bit after. The guys at the front of the pool will pick up the natural attrition late next summer and for us at the end, 4 per month, 32 in the pool, do the math. When they call I'll go! But keep in mind they are over crewed and have one ac less for 2008 so find something to keep current in the meantime! Arggghhhhh! I can see 6 headless horsemen!!! kempus |
Arggghhhhh! I can see 6 headless horsemen!!! You're all guessing! (this must be PPRuNe, then!) You could get a "start tomorrow" phonecall before you've read this post, or you could be waiting for ever if the dithering continues or the whole shebang is sold off and stripped of everything but Heathrow slots. That's a heck of a big spread of possibilities to be guessing from! Don't expect BB or anyone else to know any more than you do. I'm wondering if the owner himself knows what he wants, based upon recent events. |
BMI had 6 resignations at the weekend,mostly FO,s i think and probably ex B MED.

How many LHR slots does BMI have? BA are no longer looking at Iberia and are flushed with cash. Virgin claim to be broke.
Looks like BMI are doing a "BA Connect" prior to a merger, hopefully not with Luffty. |
BMI have13% LHR slots,so 1 in7ish aircraft is a BMI one.

Ex B Med FO's are leaving because the time to command has suddenly increased to an unknown number of years.BMI have not moved anybody to the LHS since 9/11!!Because of the cancelled 330,s i think BMI may become a stagnant pond for quite a while.

Just found this thread on the prune. I've been in the pool since the second week of July. I was hoping for an update from BB today as we usually get an e-mail at the start of the month. I just hope it all comes good in the end..... Regards |
No new news on the Holdpool. I imagine BB and the rest of the training department are concentrating on standardising the new crews to BMI SOPs.

It would be nice to have some info from the horse's mouth on the A330 orders.
All I've got to go on is Nigel Turner's statement we all got in Oct saying they were still commited to the 5 321's and 5 330's just at a later date, who knows...... |
Your guess is as good as mine! I wouldn't worry about the 330s my seniority dropped 100 places over night last month so I'll have gone bald by the time 330 courses come to me!!

I gather the order for 4 erj145 has now been canx. Is there likely to be any movement in the regional holding pool.

Evening all, a quick question to all you airline experts.
If Lufthansa were to purchase the 20% share that SAS are looking to off load in the near future would it cause a further freeze in recruitment similar to a company merger. Does anyone have an idea what would happen to the remainder of the holdpool. Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. JD |

Hi everybody,
Like most of you, I'm a "member" of the bmi holding pool... Pfff, what a long wait. Got on the list in August. Every once in a while that email that doesn't really look very promissing! I've been looking around for other airlines because I just want to fly as soon as possible, plus my IR expires in March, what a pain! Can anyone tell me wether it'd be silly not to wait for bmi? Adios and chin up guys, patience!! |
If you get something else, unless you have started groundschool with bmi take it; the hold pool isn't getting any smaller!
