Come on guys..be real. Anyone can verify that there have been multiple diversion by checking any newspaper. As per being 2.3 kms away..I was told differently but I admit I have no clue on where the hotel ( Ankara more or less :) ) is in the first instance. If you think that calling pussy pilots that are not eager to fly near war zone or where IS is just a few miles away will help ...go ahead..in FR they are actually looking for non machos... By the way this Ghotam city Mertropolis story is very very silly..you look like Mc Donalds. Still amazing how you jumped on me...well you are the official THY PPrune propaganda...good luck with that.

TypeIV 20th Feb 2016 11:32

Type IV..you must be a Turkish ex heroic fighter pilot.. seen your courage and obedience. We are impressed. How about hiring more whiners and people with a tad of sense of criticism..will that may be help to stop trashing airplanes?
Calm down amico, I'm neither ex mil or in THY. Not even a hero, simply just a colleague with a beginning male pattern baldness and beer stomach growing by the week with less than average to average flying skills.

What you call a tad sense of cricisism is in my opinion a multiannual childish tenacious bitching campaign. The market for us is at its best since almost a decade and will get worse soon. Just bite the bullet and remain mentally healthy or go somewhere else instead of childish whining. With several years of experience on a common type, you will be in a course within weeks after applying.

If you can't make your way in somewhere else, then be happy someone is willing to pay you €8000+ net every month and enjoy the do&co catering.

Kirks gusset 20th Feb 2016 12:35

Bob we are all amused by that advert and there have been call a to ticketing trying to actually book flights. To be honest the local conflicts have never made me feel in danger on the other hand hoards of guns on the streets make you realise how easily things can escalate. On a personal level I felt more at ease in Istanbul than some of the extreme Arab states where I could be jailed just for viewing porn. At the moment THY has surplus FOs but needs more Captains due mainly retirement.Off to eat my Gotham Burger

jpilot14 20th Feb 2016 14:17

thy current situation

yes, what you post reflects the actual situation. about the rule of being in IST so many hours before is true however it is not monitored and people hardly complies with it. Also there is not answer what so ever for anything you ask. you get money deductions with no reason. the language barrier is huge and they use it strategically for their advantage. no right to be sick and the living stile in IST has a really low quality and it is very expensive.

STEXUP 21st Feb 2016 06:06

Not a place for expat period.

Kirks gusset 21st Feb 2016 07:51

Lolo as you know slots from SAW and planned closure times are causing major headaches on the SH fleets, more flights will be done internally by Anadolu jet to give more time for transit PAX. No real issues for 777 fleet but now they will send 25 plus FOs to SXS for the summer from 1st March to support the Anadolu Jet operation..from what we hear, "close to upgrade" is about as far as some are getting! When " SAW Base" is complete things will change for guys living on the Anatolian side, i.e easier, but only SH ops planned now. 7 or 8 years ago living on the Anatolian side was great, not so good now with all the new construction and traffic jams. Just 1 week left for me, then I take my 7 years social payments, car deposit and savings and go! but for the purists: over 7 years my average rent has been 1200 Euros a month ( allowing for exchange rates) the average apartment bills 410 Euros a month inc Gas, water, Electric TV and Internet. Average net salary allowing for conversion from .81 to .77 £ 8105. No of staff tickets bought 620, average ticket cost 337 TL. Been 1st class on LH holidays 16 times so saved £44000 in fares.. on the other hand looking fwd to cutting my own grass.

bob777 21st Feb 2016 09:10

Kirk that means we will loose your comments totally disconnected from reality.

Kirks gusset 21st Feb 2016 10:39

Bob, you are right, my sincere apologies! we call it Business or next level is Premium Economy,. Regarding the salaries, I believe I know what i have earned over the years and your figures are complete nonsense..And Staff travel with Star Alliance for leisure travel is not the same as the arrangements for ID tickets to commute. You clearly have no real inside knowledge of THY and perhaps you should refrain from comments arising from speculation and pprune gossip. The principle of the forum is to share information based on first hand experience so that others may make informed decisions , not based on " I was told" or I have a friend" or " I hear" " taken from Agency update" etc etc ,your sources are ill-informed Find another thread to contaminate or " stir up" or go back to your flight sim.

Bob..Your Post June 2015

"Circa three weeks from on line test no info. Shall I assume a no go?
I think I performed fairly well beside some tech issues with my PC during multitasking...

I assume NLH was another success !

FlyMorePaidLess 21st Feb 2016 11:49

Kirk,
Wages are increased year on year. !!!!!
I don't know who you are trying to 'sell' THY to but thats a load of b**locks.
5 years of nearly double digit inflation ,a drop of almost 50% against GBP/Euro and only 1 pay rise 3 years ago. Are you the one in the video with his motorcycle extolling the the wonders of living in Istanbul and who just happens to own an ATO in Ireland to which THY is sending pilots ?

bob777 21st Feb 2016 12:09

I would not be surprised..

Kirks gusset 21st Feb 2016 12:10

FlyMorePaidLess.. 1 post? come on we weren't born yesterday.. go back to your old " handle"

bob777 21st Feb 2016 12:21

I checked the exchange rate.. in 2011 it was 0,52...today 0,30 with the Euro...a loss of 40%..do your math. Kirk..come on are implying that Flymorepaidless could still be me? Sorry to disappoint you mate as far I know there are many disgruntled expat pilot in THY if not all. As per my "successes" biggest was not selling my soul for a few bucks and being able to see my my face in the mirror in the morning..

sick report

Recently I was sick in my home country, I went to my Doctor who gave me a confirmation. I scaned it and sent it to THY Managment. Within hours I got the confirmation of being removed from duty. No Problems at all. No salary deduction.

Procedure: if sick you should call first crew dispatch so they can organize the replacement, then you go (if possible) to the airport doctor of THY who checks you and gives you a confirmation of how long you are removed from flight. He gives you also a voucher to get required medication on THY costs. The Doctor informs crewdispatch and enters your sickleave in the system. When you return to work you have to pass the doctor before flight to confirm you are fit to fly. If you got your sick leave report from your home country it should be in english and you have to give the original during return to work check. IF YOU FOLLOW THE PROCEDURE NO SALARY DEDUCTION. If you mess up somewhere: no sick leave report, not reporting sick, whatever you will get salary reduction!

STEXUP 23rd Feb 2016 13:54

Hey THY...first of all thanks but you are not correct. This might be true for two days sick leave but if you were sick more than two days you will be lost in hell with translation in Turkish multiple taxi rides at the opposite ends of Istanbul and an incredibly cumbersome endless process. Your pay cut will come in a couple of months and if you did not follow the correct procedure you will not get a penny back. I tell you cause it happened to me. The procedure is made to discourage sick leave..the result is that pilot fly sick. They just fill their mouths with words of which they don't understand the meaning ...so far the worst professional experience ever. I was not expecting much..but this.. Best " European" airline...my arse.

twentyyearstoolate 23rd Feb 2016 15:41

In the most recent Memo regarding Sick Leave, they also stated if the correct procedure was not followed there would be a "penalty".

Don't you love this part of the world....so caring :yuk:

Skipping Classes 24th Feb 2016 10:22

Yes, unfortunately this is true. You will get pay cut in *ALL* cases unless you check-in first at the airport and then report sick.

The recent memo from the chief pilot was merely asking pilots to give heads-up to the crew dispatch so that they have time to find a replacement for you without delaying a flight.

This, however does not relieve you from the requirement to check-in and then go to the company doctor.

This is certainly not nice and hopefully will change one day ;)

By the way, for TK pilots there's a closed forum at aerocrew.net

You need to either register with your THY e-mail (that you can change later on) or provide any other proof you work for Turkish in order to join TK Flight Crew group

Regards!

Wisepilot 25th Feb 2016 06:36

I'm been working here for few years now. I enjoyed and still enjoy this experience but despise and feel stunned by the attitude at times. I think the message to THY management coming from years of posts on this forum is : be fair and honest.

Most of us are here just for the ( not enough) money few others are genuinely willing to try help Turkish become the international global carrier it wants to become. Sometimes I think the one fairing better are the first, at the end . All expats but a few more opportunistically and geographically advantaged B777 skippers are complaining or thinking of leaving.

As said money is not enough, on some fleets you have no life and way excessive flying plus loads of additional operational stress. I see Kirk and Type IV are putting the discussion on the you "don't have balls" tone..and that reflects the environment and the above mentioned attitude beside being against all that modern aviation has come to in recent years.

Even more disturbing is that is coming from expat but evidently they have some undisclosed interest in convincing people to join THY. Just don't assume you are dealing with a mass of idiots cause that might prove detrimental. I strongly hope THY will soon get to the 21st century moreover when it comes to basic rights like the one to be ill. Or, I fear, the dream might suddenly become a mirage.

Probably a full privatization will be the only solution to delink Turkish Airline from Turkish Govt and its influence which I deem negative under many aspects. EU is starting to watch for subsidized carrier unfair competition practices anyway . I hear rumors that national and international politics are starting to negatively affect the perception of the company..and its commercial performance in some important markets. That is inevitable seen the current state of affairs .

THY_Pilot 27th Feb 2016 10:12

Salary

Is there any airline where the pilots don't complain? The salary in THY is very good, if you are not happy go to A330 Eurowings for less then 4'000.- EUR net or to B777 aerologic for less than 4'000.- EUR net (and those companies are Lufthansa more or less). In THY a Copilot on A320 has more than 5'000.- EUR net. It is very good that the goverment is very close with THY, or you think without gov you can grow like they do? Is there any national Airline in Europe which you can join without speaking the national language (except THY)? Is there any national airline in Europe where you get the captain upgrading after 3 years of joining as a foreigner? Why there are foreigners CMD 777/330 from Emirates/Qatar/Etihad joining THY and very happy even if the salary is lower? Why you don't complain about your gov that they don't support airlines in your country to grow to offer you good jobs at home? Why you don't work in your homecountry when it is so bad abroad - you haven't passed the assessment in your national Airline - so be happy that THY trusts you that you are a good Pilot while your national Airlines doesn't want you!

Wisepilot 28th Feb 2016 13:43

There are many airlines where pilots are quite happy. The basic salary for FO currently in THY is 4200 Euro in par to the mentioned LOW COST German carrier with the difference that gross there is almost double whereas in Turkey pilots pay 5% tax and have silly pensions and no end of service benefits .On the other hand if you want to compare to the global competitors in the ME hiring expat, not requiring knowledge of Arabic and having non discriminating rules for seniority and upgrade we stand at 1/3 of the compensation they offer with none of the benefit. If you work in Aerologic or Eurowing most probably you are not an expat but a EU citizen and you will not have to maintain double household .Still I have to admit for some THY FO I flew with salary is way too much. The EU prohibits state subsidies this is why they are not expanding. Unfornately carrier accessing the EU market will soon have to abide to curb unfair competition . No mistery THY is always the one offering the cheapest fare..but there will be soon some surprises.

As far as I know after 6 years the amount of FO upgraded is 4 and that just because some of them campaigned for it for years and most probably there was no other option, If you cannot find Turkish speaker is not the expats fault. The foreign Commanders are so happy that many after experiencing the environment are reapplying to their original employer. Your post is childish uninformed and delusional my friend. Get real.
