I'm starting to believe Internet Brands is getting something in return for muffling "dissent" and hide critical views in regards of some contracts and recruitment drives which are proving not so succesfull....

People were drawing parallels between the recruitment at turkish airlines with Erdogan, Putin, shooting aircraft down and similiar nonsense so I can see from a forum owner's point of view that such statements aren't very welcome.

If you want to be critical - go for it.

If your criticism is severe but factual and well founded in that's fine.

If you just want to rant and hurl xenophobic abuse don't bother.

This is one of the most ridiculous recruitment stunt ever seen.
When will they learn that a dentist degree has nothing to do with flying skills? How many hull losses more?
Beside taking out of society much needed professional as unmotivated flyers ( if not for the mediocre salary) to enslave them on a "non life" on 737.. ah ah ah only in Turkey. Looks like they really don't get it

I have heard on recent cpts selection that, out of 12 candidates, only two made it. They were the only turkish: all the others that not made it were yabanci...

My colleagues on the 320 fly around 60 hours these last months. I think there are more and more FO's on the 320. On the 330 it's still a different story

That really sucks. Long duty times, 4 sectors, not pretty. I'm happy that I left the 320. Although 330 we make more hours, but better roster.

Real life for turkish airlines Yabanci (foreigners) Pilots:

Perform the flights that the turkish pilots don't want to do,

20 days annual leave per year,

Very unstable roster - it changes almost everyday,

Some days up to 14 hours duty time,

There's a crew wish system that never attends your wishes because they are afraid about foreigners pilots look for another jobs.

Turkish airline expatriate experiment can be vastly considered, by numbers a complete failure.By a statistic someone made it would seem that 75% of the pilots that joined before 36 months are not working in THY today. The turnover has been stunning and those that arrive just fill the place of those that leaves. Reasons? Who ever expects Turkey to be anywhere near Europe standards realizes after a short while that this is not the case. By their very nature Turks, in general, tend to consider themselves the best..in everything..even when evidence shows the opposite. Its the result of some kind of inexplicable underlying frustration.Sure they have the record for trashed Airbuses in 2015. If you look at geopolitical situation.. they are at "war" with every neighboring country but Bulgaria..but give it some times.. they will manage to piss off also Europe once and for all. This is a symptom of their attitude...a tad too arrogantly opportunistic and far from genuinely friendly.
Unfortunately their ( over) confidence is too often not supported by real competence.They tend to be anal on details...to show off..but they often miss the big picture or just misread some English word..and also those who get it right fear to point it out. I'm out in a few weeks..it was interesting, convenient logistically but l have to say progressively more and more unpleasant and I cannot suggest anyone to join this outfit. Unacceptable ( not even so ) latent discrimination, too many machos thinking only of villas and Mercedes accepting the inacceptable and risking people lives..., not enough professionalism, organization and the poorest English spoken one one side and a now way too low salary and T&C to compensate for the non operational stress you will have to endure.. Yeah..you are right there are exceptions. But often they are going to work elsewhere and anyway they are in minority to change anything.Maybe in 10 years it will change but now it looks more like a charter airline trying to save a few bucks on the skin of crews...not a major international carrier

Here is the latest THY attempt to convince expat to join. Notice the nationalities of those that made themselves available for the video and make your consideration. Exceptions are the gentleman riding the motorcycles ( good luck driving a bike in Istanbul..:uhoh:) .that is a clinical case and the probable mastermind and the turbo prop German accented girl ( which I admit is a good "tactical" character ) that still cannot believe she is actually employed and flying a 777.....
Instead of spending money on this ludicrous stunts why don't you follow the following simple suggestions:

1) Stop lying. Lies are boomerang and may hit you on the back of your head
which, for hard that it can be, might hurt.
2)Create a non discriminatory environment with equal opportunities.
3) Raise salaries to level on par with equivalent operators
4) Help relocate or offer real commuting options and compensate also locals with equivalent benefits.
5 )Stop making silly videos...

If you consider that I just heard that many Turkish national are quitting THY to join a local low cost operator imagine what must be going on. Have you ever heard of a Lufthansa captain joining Ryanair?
Hopefully some one in charge will stop getting counseling from the wrong, self interested, persons and start using their own brain..

Tasmanian...you got it wrong. I did not mean any racial implication but may be just suggesting that since they struggle to find candidate in the West they are now aiming to other countries. What will be interesting will be the day they will ask them to get an EASA license in 60 days... or.. they are fired as it happened already in the past.

Like a the rest of the ME Airlines, so what? Russia is in a crisis and a the former Transaero pilots need to feed their families. So what should they do, selling cigarettes on the streets? What happened with the MAS pilots? What will happen with the SAA boys? It's normal that those guys are looking for another job outside their home countries.

The question is, what will happen with TK in the next 24 months with all this security threats in Turkey.

Who says the opposite? I'm just saying that THY will become fully EASA and possibly Turkey a part of Europe. These were the considerations..since it happened already once.. Regardless I doubt any Russian pilot will join THY....seen the ongoing diplomatic crisis..

Italian Bob, its not that they struggle so much to find candidates from the " West" its more that so many fail at selection.. nearly 50% medicals, some at sims, some with references and the rest don't even get as far as day 2. These western candidates then end up trawling the agencies and trying to find a gig for the over 55s. On the other hand, the sharp Russians and Baltic State guys seem to sail through..me thinks there is a clear message there! You can't be out of the game for years, swilling beer in Surrey, have belly like a whale and expect to get through on the " well when I was a TC at xxx" . Why people choose to apply in the first instance is up to them, maybe escapism, maybe the 5th wife, kids in college etc, who knows. But... as pointed out to exhaustion, guys should go into this with their eyes wide open..Now days Istanbul is about as safe as Belfast was in the 80s..

The medical failures I can understand. The 1 day event at the local hospital is not as bad sin far east, but not far off..if you have gall stones, kidney stones, STDs, bad heart rhythm, bad ears or eyes, back operation for discs, anything of the sort normally its a fail..why? well because they don't want the Sigorta issues when you go sick..The paperwork issues.. another nightmare, translate a degree? high school diploma..references etc etc.
The tech quiz and interview..well that's down to the individual piss poor planning.
The sim.. well, like anywhere you are either on the ball or in the hedge..
Now..about Locals being under par.. excluding upgrades, the last lot on SH were from Pegasus, Sunexpress and Onur air.. looking at these.. the Onur guys on the "Bus" get most training from Airbus and are usually sharp, Pegasus is a mix of ex Sunexpress and upgraded FOs and SXS are probably the best. Of course the arrangements between SXS and THY mean no transition is allowed directly, thats why some came " through Pegasus" after a year or so. The only other direct SXS guys came in 2012 by mutual arrangement.
On the LH Fleets, mainly ex middle east and Indian carriers are the latest crop, obvious as the Indians operated the 777 for us on lease and the ME guys are sick of looking at sand and having to respray their cars.
Strangely the attrition figures are warped with so many older THY Turkish guys meeting the age limits. Rumour is they will restrict new LH Captains to age 55 now.. but its just a rumour, again to do with Turkish laws, holiday entitlement and other obligations. Some " applicants " are over 60, this isn't going to happen either.. once bitten etc
To sum the place up.. personal choice, survive here or in the pit.. if you have no better options look at it..
For FOs not wanting upgrade as Yabanci, work at it for a few years and have some fun, but ONLY on LH fleet.. SH is an " acquired taste" and you need very thick skin..
