Couldn't agree more.

Captain Spam Can 12th Oct 2013 00:37

justagigolo77 I don't think I would fly or let my family on a Canadian airline, I mean at least with easyjet cadets (and British Airways/Monarch since its the same training school) they go through a tough selection and are trained by ex long haul skippers, mil fast jet guys and the occasional Red arrows mavericks in easyjet, so their getting the best training and are switched on people, in Canada you get trained by some ppl civilian cowboy out of a back garden shed in the middle of nowhere and fly around like cowboys with high accident rates due lack a SA and ability which is fine in your propeller driven aircraft with few SOB but its bad news when you need to fly something big and fast carrying many people when you need to be ahead of the aircraft and understand many systems.........................now how much of moron do I sound????? :ugh:
And btw I fly for easyjet and haven't paid for a type rating as I'm sure about 70% of pilots at ezy haven't.

And for the record would you let your family fly BA/KLM/Lufthansa? Knowing that the skipper prob flew 100hrs 15years ago in a light a/c and pushed buttons in a jet ever since, sitting next to a 200hr cadet...and guess where the vast majority of experienced f/o's came from in BA's last 2 intakes :}

Deep and fast 12th Oct 2013 07:01

Oh how employers must laugh when they see pilots on forums like this!

This whole situation is borne out minimum cost to the company and all the time they can get away with charging people for training they will.

For me, the main question is, are they employing the best available talent for their flight operation? And the answer has to be no. Because they have been excluding experienced guys in previous recruitment.

And now experienced guys are getting interviews, they are turning it down as the offer is derisory.

EpsilonVaz 12th Oct 2013 11:03

The point of this thread isn't to make employers happy, it's to give information to those who are thinking about a career in easyJet.

Alexander de Meerkat 12th Oct 2013 16:41

Absolutely - well said Epsilon Vaz. Deep and fast - Firstly, absolutely anyone of experience could apply, and many have done. Secondly, many experienced pilots are accepting easyJet's offer. And yes, we are getting some great people. And yes, like every employer who wants to stay in business, it is a judgement - they pay the least they can to get the right people. You may not like it, but that is the way the world is. And finally, it is a great place to work - there will be very few disappointed people who come here. Those that are will find they are much sought after by other top airlines who know exactly the product they are getting from an easyJet pilot. No easyJet pilot has any difficulty getting another job if he wants to leave - it seems win-win to me.

go around flaps15 12th Oct 2013 17:34

Many are accepting perhaps. Unfortunately I won't be. I have had a better offer, simple as that.

No malice towards Easy, on the contrary I think it will fit in with some people very nicely indeed. For me I had another offer which fits in with my personal aspirations and circumstances better.

But that's life and it's good to see EZY taking guys. There is a few amongst my ranks who are very much looking forward to changing from blue and yellow to orange.

I think Alexander has been a very helpful insight into EZY on this thread and it's unfortunate that he/she seems to be getting a fair amount of flak for doing so.

King Dong 12th Oct 2013 19:12

it is a judgement - they pay the least they can to get the "right" people.
AdM thanks for your insight, may I quote you on that when my nearest and dearest ask me which operator I can recommend to take them on their hard earned annual holiday?

AdM, I recommend you stick to selling car insurance.:ok:

Lord Spandex Masher 12th Oct 2013 19:25

King Dong, I wonder why the "right" people would choose Easyjet when there are other airlines who are paying more and charging less, or nothing!

Maybe Easyjet are getting the "right" people from what's left after the other airlines have had their pick. ;)

King Dong 12th Oct 2013 19:36

My dear Lord Spandex Masher (= Alexander de Meerkat).

For "right people", read employees, not customers:ugh::ugh::ugh::

Lord Spandex Masher 12th Oct 2013 19:46

What are you smoking King Dong?

If you want to discuss travelling with easy then post on the right thread.

King Dong 12th Oct 2013 20:12

What are you smoking King Dong?
Last night I smoked a very nice Montecristo Edmundo.

Lord Spandex Masher 12th Oct 2013 20:16

Well you shouldn't smoke, it zaps brain cells. :=

Anyway, why are you suggesting that AdM and I are one and the same and what's your point regarding "right people"?

Narrow Runway 12th Oct 2013 21:27

"They pay the least they can to get the right people".

That is EVERY business is it?

No, it isn't.

Most businesses pay the going rate - and there is a subtle difference between the two.

Alexander de Meerkat 12th Oct 2013 22:33

Just to clarify, Lord Spandex Masher (fine chap as I am sure he is) and myself are categorically NOT the same person!

Regarding the 'going rate', when 3500 highly qualified people apply for 200 jobs, do you think that rate is going to be higher or lower than if there were only 200 pilots available and several companies were competing for their services? The 'going rate' is what a company has to pay in order for people to accept, not what they would like or think they are worth. I would like to be paid £200k+ a year and be given a posh car to go with it, but, as that is somewhat more than the 'going rate', I may have to adjust my plans accordingly.

koubri 13th Oct 2013 07:52

Are there still some people in the "Talent Pool" waitting for the contract offer?
Has anyone been offered an european base ?

Deep and fast 13th Oct 2013 12:21

The number of applications is somewhat irrelevant as many will be speculative from guys in jobs that ultimately decide to sit tight.

Pilots, they're always fishing but don't always eat what they catch!

FANS 14th Oct 2013 11:25

Are there more people ready for command than there are places?

LHS T&Cs will decrease materially for new captains.

Captthunder 14th Oct 2013 14:06

Koubri - I take it your still waiting for a firm offer?

UAU242 14th Oct 2013 17:05

Does anyone have any idea whether there'll be another round of recruitment in the future? Any ideas when?

Alexander de Meerkat 14th Oct 2013 18:25

FANS - Thanks for your insight on that. I am delighted to see that has been revealed to you before it has been revealed to any employees of easyJet.

hobnobanyone 14th Oct 2013 21:17

Ok... change of topic time.

I had the dubious honour of being weeded out at the aptitude stages as I couldn't control a laptop mouse down a tunnel, couldn't do the maths quick enough and had a total and utter brain meltdown on the verbal reasoning.

However, despite the contract being discussed ad infinitum, there's quite a few leaving the brownish pastures of Exeter's favourite and I'm a bit jealous.

For anyone in the know... are there any thoughts as to whether this might open up again next year? Or in actual fact, if I should take what the last battery of aptitude tests told me and go and become a carrot farmer in East Anglia??

Alexander de Meerkat 14th Oct 2013 21:42

hobnobanyone - very sorry to hear of your sad demise from the process. Nonetheless, hope springs eternal and the word on the street is that we are likely to take 250 pilots for each of the next few years. There is no formal date being bandied around, but I would guess it would start during early Summer 2014 with interviews over the summer itself. I cannot guarantee that, but that would be a good guess. This is certainly not the end of the story - good luck next time.

A4 14th Oct 2013 21:44

EZY is positioned for expansion / contraction depending upon what happens to the global economy. The recently announced Airbus order allows us to go from the current 208 (?) airframes to circa 290 OR 160 by 2021. Expansion is muted at about 5% per year so there will of course be a requirement for new pilots.

Whether or not an unsuccessful application this year precludes future attempts I don't know.......watch this space.

f27m50 15th Oct 2013 07:29

Hi everybody!

question for the ezy pilots flying out of CDG base:

where do expats typically live? area around the airport or city center?

ReallyAnnoyed 15th Oct 2013 14:12

Central Paris is not exactly cheap nor easy to get in and out of in rush hours, so expats generally don't live in the centre of Paris. Doubt we have many living in Chelsea, Kensington or Mayfair on the rainy rock either.

FANS 17th Oct 2013 12:50

FANS - Thanks for your insight on that. I am delighted to see that has been revealed to you before it has been revealed to any employees of easyJet.
Everyone is shocked at the T&Cs of RHS despite supply exceeding demand. You should be no more shocked that LHS T&Cs will go do down materially for new captains.

To say you haven't been told or this is not even on EZY's radar reminds me of similar stories in the 1990s about why salaries for b737/a320 RHS would always be reasonably good!

easy 17th Oct 2013 17:49

no point in arguing...:ugh:

Can anyone confirm what the requirements are to join the command waiting list in Easyjet. Under the NEC has it changed? I was told during selection that you could join the bottom of the list after 2 successful sims and meeting the required factored hours.

Gladremeer 31st Oct 2013 13:54

Hi everyone. Offered a position at CDG. Could someone confirm whether easyJet pay you in France through the french tax system (and if so the rates) or whether its paid through the British tax system. I'm a Brit.

Any suggestions regarding places to live/ rent etc which are cheap with easy access to the airport along with any advice regarding living in France/ working for easyJet will be gratefully received and very much appreciated (private message me)

Would love to hear from other people already working for easy in CDG or have been offered a position.

JRK110 31st Oct 2013 14:43

Hi Gladreemer,

Paid in France, in Euros, French social security (~22%) is taken out of your monthly salary and income tax is a bill at the end of the year. Income tax is variable and depends greatly on your domestic situation.

The French contract is the best in ezy both in terms of salary and working conditions. Congratulations on passing the selection!

Roissy is cheap and right next to the airport with buses running to/from the airport from 0500-0100. They're hotel shuttles, but shhhh :ok:

SpGo 31st Oct 2013 21:20

Indeed 22% social security. If you commute from the UK you will have to pay full UK tax on the remaining 78%.
Contract is good, BUT is under great pressure, the company is working on a secret project called "DEEP DIVE"!
There are also rumors that new entrants will be offered new T&C's, despite refusal from the Union, so be careful with what you sign.

SpGo 1st Nov 2013 22:18

Wo Ping, go to the SNPL website and read under Asterix documents. You can start to worry now!

Binder 2nd Nov 2013 03:20

Gladremeer,

Do get your contract 'checked over' by SNPL before you sign and return it.

Don't assume anything if you know what I mean.

Hope you enjoy Paris. Great bases staffed by nice crews who get on with the job despite the negative rhetoric from H89.

cccc1 2nd Nov 2013 15:11

Still waiting

After I received the mail that I passed the online tests, I haven't received anything since. :(
I am non type-rated on the Airbus.
Anyone any idea why I haven't received an invitation for the second round? I mailed them, but nothing.
Cheers!

north coast 10th Nov 2013 19:16

Hi,

Anyone able to give info on flexible roster for a newbie joining at LGW? Average number of days offs, earlies into lates etc??

Thanks

Truckmaster 11th Nov 2013 18:17

Am interested in same info as North Coast.

RexBanner 20th Nov 2013 11:48

Any other fellow hold poolers just received the dreaded news that there are no further positions this year? We've got a year apparently until we have to go through the whole process again. Anyone on the inside got any encouraging news for us?

Runbamaca 20th Nov 2013 17:58

Same for me here! Interviewed early September.
Disgusted...:-( :=:}:mad:

nicob 20th Nov 2013 18:53

EZY

Do you mean, you were fully successful and now no position offered?
