MAN was a rumour, but I think it was started by some guys who wanted a MAN base :D

You could always take the Command in FR & defer NAS for 18mths to join as DEC instead ? we "should" be recruiting DEC's for the foreseeable. . . of course, the policy could change & I would then regret giving you that advice.

I know guys who were offered the position, turned it down, and were welcome 6mths later when they realised they had backed the wrong horse. Unlike some other companies, they seem wiling to accept they are not the only show in town , and should you decide otherwise it is not held against you (I have heard the inverse about NAS long-haul however)

Certainly if you come along for assessment, and it is going OK, there would be no harm in instigating a frank discussion on staying with FR & gaining Command versus how long (?) to have a crack at it as a Contractor in NAS. They are normally quite amenable to answering these concerns, & realise you have your own life/career to run whether they are included or not.

There are a significant number of "Contract FO's" at LGW going through the Command Selection process as we speak. They have been with the Company less than a year.

Most nightstops out of LGW take place in ARN for scheduling reasons.

The longest days are 4 sector OSL/NCE and now OSL/FCO.

Nice hotel & easy walk to crewroom (ARN) nice one. If you mean they appear on the frequent list that is distributed of those " going through the command process" I have lost count of how many names have been notified to us this last year. . . will take the training department a decade to process all those bods. Guys who have been here for a heartbeat are on the list, but must be looking at a couple of years at least for their names to trickle to the head of the list.

Morning all , I have recently passed my command on the 73-8 and judging by my busy roster I should have 500 hours by April/May time . I did apply to NAS as an FO but then command came knocking. Now I've passed, I'm in a base far away from my life and home on a non-commutable roster pattern, and the thing is basically any of the NAS bases would suit me 100 times more than where I currently am.
So I'm wondering do many people pass DEC Selection at NAS with the bare minimum 500 hours PIC as per requirements? I have 4000 737 total right now and would love a quick escape!

Bouqueron - how many total hours do you have? According to their website, you need 5000 total as well as the 500 PIC to get a DEC at norwegian.

By the time I have 500/600 PIC on type I should have approx. 5000 total time also. I know it is the bare minimums but I´m just trying to look ahead and wondering if anybody else passed selection on the bare minimums required ?

Thats not what I mean.

There are 5 LGW based NAS FO's going through the upgrade selection process at this present moment in time.

So many changes coming to contracts/status in the next year or so that it is difficult/impossible for any contractor to say with any certainty exactly how much they will be taking home in 1 years time.

Command prospects at Norwegian
 
To add to SR71's post.

There are at least a couple of FO's now actually undertaking command line training at LGW and I believe 4 of the FO's who recently passed the command evaluation will start command line training in January '14.

It seems that whilst the DEC is still operating, Norwegian are equally keen to get FO's into the LHS. So I would say command prospects are good to excellent and with 200 new aircraft coming they're going to need a lot of captains. LGW is going to be a big Norwegian base so more aircraft to arrive there in 2014.

As for quality of life at LGW - it has certainly improved with the 5/4 roster trial. I have 14 days off per month in Nov & Dec which is 2 days more per month than the contract offers. However, even with a weeks leave in Dec I'm still rostered 75 hours so I think they're getting their money's worth.
Training dept is very good, emphasis on teaching rather than testing, crew food, free uniform, good remuneration and permanent employment on the horizon. Overall I'm very happy and plenty of others are too.

Norwegian seems like a great company but most of us have the same question.

Would it be worthy to make the move from our stable job in another airline?

I am living in Spain, my roster is 6 on and 5 off. I am making as a FO around 5000 euros after taxes. Career expectation is not to be upgrade in at least 5 years.

There is any pilot from NAS that could share his/her experience?

What is the avarage salary as FO/Capt after taxes?

Acccording to Pilot Jobs Network - Recruitment news for airline pilots Norwegian pilot jobs, payscales and entry requirements.

Capt make 7500 euros gross base salary (minus 24% taxes as an expat) = 5700euros
Plus 800E(house allowances)+500E(allowance)+640E(flying hours 8Ex80hours) = 1940 E
Total around 9440 E after taxes.

FO 2888E (3800E minus 24%) + 1940E = 4828E

Any one from inside could confirm this numbers?

5700+1940 = * * * * ? (clue, not 9440 )

If you choose to pay the "non-resident" tax (24.75% AFAIK) you will be taxed that percentage on everything I.E as FO 5100 + the block hrs @ 8€/hr.

So, assuming 80hr/mth you should receive net around 4300€.

As you are living in Spain, you would probably find it more lucrative to pay "normal" Spanish tax, which is around 24% (including social payments) , but only levied on the salary of 3800€.

I have a colleague who is living in Spain doing this, and he comes closer to achieving the figure you have extrapolated of 4828€.

For Capts, the 24.7% on everything, is possibly better, as a large percentage of the greater salary (7500) is taxed at a higher rate up around 40%, which nullifies the advantage of being taxed on salary only. Of course if you are properly integrated into the Spanish system & possibly receiving tax credits for wife/kids/mortgage/whatever you may still be better off as Capt paying "normal" tax, however none of the agencies seem sophisticated enough to arrange that for anyone, so you will be doing your own admin to benefit from any of that.

At the moment Contract Bases have 12 days off/month variable, so you will lose the stability of a fixed roster. 5/4 roster is on a 2mth "trial" at LGW base. . .we are hopeful (of course) it will become a permanent fixture/extended to other "Contract" bases.

Command "could" be quicker than 5 years with the planned expansion, depends on your total hrs obviously ( & whether you pass the Command course, our success rate is somewhat lower than many other companies . . . .strangely enough )

Could you confirm that you have to pay tax on per diem? I thought that this was a non taxable item in Spain like in some other european country except UK.

BTW does anyone know what would be the tax rate in the UK as expat (Not sure if you can stay less than 183 days) or as a resident?

Don't think perdiem/flying pay is "normally" taxed, although there is rumored to be a limit, which I believe Capts come close to. The problem is that the "non-resident" deductions being made by 2 of the agencies, are being made on the total amount. Whether this is correct/incorrect I cannot confirm (neither I think, can the 2 agencies involved. )

Hello Captplaystation.

Firstly thanks a lot for your info about the company. Just about to make the final move and resign from the migthy blue and yellow one (my course is now confirm)

However I understand no one has the cristal ball and predict the future but I see RYR making very drastic moves and changes lately and attacking other locos in Europe. They are finally realising the need for a change in their way they do business and I personaly think in few years RYR will become more like NAS and viceversa. Just makes me wonder how solid will NAS be in the future and if it really has a good business plan strategy.

The other thing that cocerns me is the outcome of implementing local contracts to everyone at their base. Does that meat that they will get ride of all contact agencies? Unless they offer a litlle bit of a payrise we will only end up paying more taxes.

Just left the "harp" as well, and waiting to join NAS. As many other people, I am keen on a LGW base. Does anybody know the Net pay for the UK based FO's?

And in addition; Do the staff have any staff travel discounts on the Gatwick express?

clearly Ryanair are responding to falling profits by repositioning themselves in the market, it won't be easy to make that change, simply cutting the boarding card re issue fee from €70 to €15 and lower bags fee's won't do it, lower bags fee's means more weight and more fuel and handling costs.

IMHO it will need MOL to go and a new softer face from outside, preferably female after all the chauvinistic attitude from his nibs

So i think your safe to jump on the Red nose band wagon 99% of people are glad they made the move, but its not a slam dunk for rated guys either, you'll need to work hard during training and an increasing number have failed of late, both during sim training and line training, having said that the Ryanair guys find the transition easy enough because of the quality of training they paid for at Ryanair

There was a nice Nice rumour briefly, and a French guy living in Paris mentioned he had heard Orly, a bit like the guy living in Manchester that is hoping he can give that rumour wings.

With so many aircraft on order anything is possible, but the current persistent rumour is Roma, with Berlin having gone a bit quiet.

Have also heard Palma & Vienna mentioned. . . . . but nothing like as frequently as BCN/MAD was in the past.

Hi,

I have looked through this thread and have found very little information regarding the NAS assessments for DEC. My apologies if I have missed it but I would very much appreciate it if anyone can give any information on the following.

Aptitude and/or psychometric tests. Matrigma tests. - is there any involved?

Interview - how is it conducted?

Sim check - what does this involve?

I see you have had to bang your head against a wall before when others have asked the same question.

As I said I have checked the thread and there is very little information regarding the assessment.

There is lots of information regarding unions, bases, contracts, days off, pay etc etc. However, all that can be gathered about the selection process is that there are online assessments, a relaxed interview and a sim check.
