Can anyone who goes along to the open day in Edinburgh please post here what was said? It will help those of us who cannot make it. I hope someone asks if and when the T/P salary are going to move closer to the Jet salary...;) They might get the peeps they require that way....

Homer_J, I guess it depends on the type. I know they took quite a few guys with Do328 Command time in as DEC, that aircraft is a shade under 14T MTOM. I would think it worth your while to pootle along, and post here what was said, theres a good chap. :ok:

There was no cake. But there was shortbread, so that was ok.

The two gentlemen there were very helpful and friendly. I asked all the usual questions. they answered them all, told me about the q400, why they have it, why there getting the jets. It all seemed quite straight forward.

They gave me an application form to fill in, which is fine except that It has a few essay questions. I hate those sort of questions. Maybe I could type them into an internet site and have someone else answer them, as school kids seem to do these days.

Anyway. Foods ready. Off to eat stuff.

I do not believe forms are used for DEC's, or at least others I know who have joined did not fill out any such form.

Did anyone go along to the Edinburgh meeting who is a current Captain? I would be interested to know if anything was said about recruitment projections for DEC's, and T&C's for same.

How do you guys like it, how about the rosters, and overall impression of the plane? Do you like it better than the BAe146? Any new routes with those planes? Any Dash 8-400 pilots moved over to the E195?

Is there something you'd like to tell us? What's happening in Flybeland? Had an interview scheduled with them in May but was already offered another job first.

Don't know if you're aware but just in case it was missed!! - Flybe takes over BACON as of 31st December when FLYBE's policies ''may'' come into play.....

What area of BA Connect does everyone feel is the most threatened? My personal feeling is that the places we both have a base might downsize slightly, and maybe the engineering side. Is the engineering all done from the isle of man? We used to have a base in IofM but it was shut.

I don't think anything has been decided yet and I would imagine that they would treat this as a unique situation. Industry standard is 1 week per year of service. Are you eager to be redundant?

I share the Dash7 lovers concern. More than a feeling, CS at BACON is definitely going, affecting all the BACON bases to some extent, and especially BRS, where we are all going to be made redundant (or in current BASpeak - outplaced). See my posts on the 'Flybe/BA Connect' thread. The reason for getting details of the Flybe redundancy policy is that there is a possibility that we'll all be TUPE'd to Flybe, and then made redundant on Flybe conditions, which may not be as favourable as BA.

Of course im not eager to be redundant - duh!. Still loads of unanswered questions so just doing a bit of detective work. Myself and approx 350 non-flying people dotted around the country are just waiting to see if we're gonna get totally shafted, or if it's worth hanging on...? Regardless of the outcome and to ensure a smooth 'transition period' it's going to be in BRT/BEE interest to hold on to what they can otherwise you'll be lucky to have anyone left at the end of January, let alone the end of March! CV's and job offers are flying about like confetti.

I'm not talking about the BAconnect guys, rather others in the industry
who have done their time on a turbo prop and are looking at options for their first jet job.

Why would they consider giving 'others in the industry' their first jet job? There are many BACON guys, who have also 'done their time on a turbo prop' who would expect to get their reasonable shot. Get real or as remoak said -"not a chance" :=

Didn't they take direct entries on the 146? Why would the Big Barbie Jet be any different?
