Sorry to hear that KT. I can't understand why last time they thought you were ok, and this time no. I guess the jobsworths need to do justify their needs.

KT, a colleague of mine also failed from last week. That makes 3 so far.

With a recruitment freeze now in place, sims in December so only 7 months in the hold pool before you expire and have to apply again, things look bleak for the time being.

With this in mind, I wonder if anyone will get through. I sincerely hope that BA are not just being polite and honouring interviews for the sake of it.

We were 12 or so on the day (13th). Can't imagine we all failed, but as I say, I suspect they can afford to be choosey about age, type rating etc.

Personally, I feel they have done me a favour if the number of jobs really is limited.

Was also on the 13th. Just received the...... regret to inform you mail yesterday. So, far I have not heard if anyone has passed. I am not sure if age and hours matter all that much. Personaly I am 35 with 13 years in an airline and 5,500 hours jet time on the 737.
Oh well....better luck next time!

I think craggenmore made a valid point: If they are only honoring interviews for the sake of it, but with no intention of ever providing a job.

bear in mind: If BA stops recruiting, there will not be a huge demand for interview staff, hence things just happen to keep them occupied.

Sorry you didn't get through this time, happened to me a couple of times.
I have plenty of sour grapes, but it's the way the mill owner runs the shop.....

Have had the same happen to me as KT experienced, so it's not unusual buzz boy.

Good luck next time, recruitment is still a personal affair. Right place/right time/right faces & Luck still apply as the golden rules to being succesfull. Never seen it any other way in my experience.

Try not to let it get to you. I raised an eyebrow at the JM comment about recruitment being "an art not a science" too, but it must be hard work sitting in from of a dozen suited clones, most of whom are savvy enough to recognise that the best thing they can do in an "informal chat" is to keep their mouth shut and look anonymous.

I'm reminded of a very un-PC saying from a friend's uncle which I will paraphrase to avoid offence! "Life is like a <black man's> left buttock. It ain't right and it ain't fair!".

The truth is that BA have always gone through highs and lows of recruitment and it seems to me that for every plus point to joining there are a number of minus points (high on the list Bid Line and Heathrow). So as long as you have a job then that's really all that matters.

Hi,

I attended day 1 on the 20th and have just recieved that happy phone call. They have booked my sim for mid Nov.:)

On the day the recruitment bod said that although they are not offering any start dates at the moment they are looking to fill the holding pool and may therefore start advertising again, although she would not say how many are swimming at the moment or how many they are looking to have in it.

They also said that at present they had no plans to extend the time allowed in the pool beyond 12 months. For military guys/gals your 12 months in the pool starts on the day of your sim and not your first interview.

Well, good luck to everybody. I wouldn't get too down hearted either way, as nobody in BA really knows what is happening next week in pilot recruitment , let alone next year. Plans change daily, which is very annoying if yo are waiting to join, however, it is one of the reasons BA is weathering the tough economic conditions at the moment. The situation is very fluid. That , added to the fact that only 30 odd guys retired last year instead of the usual 200 means that most new jobs will be through expansion. (which we are not at this present time, for obvious reasons)

Anyone interested in sharing some sim time in prep for the BA sim assessment plz PM me.

I have recently found out that I passed the SIM so am now in the hold pool and have taken a life jacket or two with me.

Some general points re the sim:

1.You cannot do enough prep, if you are familar on the day with where everything is and how it works it gives you soooo much more capacity. Flight sim, or internet info on 74 try: meriweather.com/747, and if you can afford it a real practise.

2. Look at all the UK plates and also brussels, they seem to be the airports of choice, LGW DVR8M into a STN ABBOT arrival seem to be the hardest of work especially if you are kept below tranistion (thus no a/p) Also NCL proceedural look very carefully at what navaid it is all based off.
From people I know how have been recently here are some routes:
-LGW to STN DIV to BHX rv ILS followed by BHX MAN proc VOR
-HLR to STN then as above
-EDI to NCL Proc ILS then fails and is VOR approach followed by NCL toMAN emergency so straight for a rv ILS
-STN to BHX div MAN rv ILS followed by MAN to LHR div LGW
Other favourite airports, East Mids, Glasgow,

3. The questions, some seem to get them and some don't, examples
-if you're climbing at 2500fpm how long from 17,000 to 35,000
-how many miles will you need to descent from 39,000 to 5,000
-at 370kts how long to do 16 miles, at 330kts how long to do 18miles(groundspeed)
-if you burn 1.2tons an hour what is your endurance with 8tons

Get practising those, my partner and I got asked 4 questions, 1 when PM and 3 when PF. They will hurry you for an answer, and you cannot write it down. Just make sure you concerntrate on the flying first!

4. Look at the uk airway charts as some of the plogs have a sid airway and star, as you will be raw data you will need to find the VOR and the Radial you need to interceptto get on the airway.(it wasnt on the plog)

5.Keep talking, communicate what you are thinking, and what you will need next ie: weather, navaids,MSA, terrain, speaking with Cabin crew or calling company, plus the more silence the more question time there will be!


Congratulations to those waiting to go in the sim, I wish you all the luck. It took me a few years to finally crack the BA nut so I know how important it is to you all.

By the way my sim partner got in too and I do believe that there is a strong link, good CRM help each other the guy in the back seat doesnt want to see you letting the PF do something wrong. (But I do know of a few people who did get in on their own -but mostly though its been non or both) Its not a competion-we call all drawn together!!!
