Evian, great post & a real insite into the sim check. Just one question, do you have to go round the hold? If the procedure allows you to pass over the beacon and go directly outbound to whatever DME then turn to intercept the LOC/VOR inbound course are they happy enough.............???
|
From my experience and others, the hold is sometimes given in a position that has nothing to do with a procedure, though if you are going to the hold and ready and plus or minus 30degrees of the outbound and of course 'ready for the approach' (speed and altitude) then they dont make you hold.
My hold was within the star, eg dayne or bovingdon, so easy as its off a VOR and direct. Others have had R/V for an approach and then been told to take up the hold for one reason or another eg MCH (MAN NDB), thus meaning as you were on the approach you would be beneath transition and so manually flying and therefore; you got it, having to do an NDB hold manually. Hope that answers your question. Good luck |
Hi Guys,
Got some great news today. Got the magic call and through to the sim and am so pleased as you can imagine. I got my sim in the beginning of december. Some great posts here, keep it up guys. Its all accurate so far and hasn't really changed that much since loc`s first post. Thanks again guys and girls. Appreciate your posts. Speedbird1 |
Speedbird,
Congratulations, they kept you hanging on a while didn't they? Can anyone who has done the sim enlighten me on the dress for the day? Did you do it in a suit and tie or was it a bit more casual. Thanks to all for the really useful posts. Regards |
If you are going for a job with any large corporation then .........
Go in a suit! Shine your shoes and present the best first impression you can. If they offer casual in the box then you can ditch the jacket and tie and relax a bit, difficult to do it the other way round. Good luck. |
Bermuda shorts, t-shirt and flip flops for the sim.
I've worn those for my last 3 attempts, maybe I'll wear different colour boardshorts next year. |
I'd be cautious with the flip-flops. The little plasticy thing between your toes can dig in whilst applying the brakes on the 747-400. Could be the cause of a little distraction.
(BA only recommend this attire when operating to Bermuda) Oh, and sun glasses, even at night, gotta look cool! :} |
personnally i think a borat type swim suit is more pratical attire for the sim check, its gives freedom of movement while at the same time demonstrating an air of refined dignity.my pink one is on the clothes line drying as i type in preparation for my big day
|
I prefer a more classic approach with my trusted speedos and sandals!

Blackred1443,
For the sake of upholding professionalism, I think you will find the 'borat' outfit is known as a 'Mankini'. Just don't wear the leopard skin one, it blends in too much with the cockpit seat covers. Also the co-pilot is forbidden to have a 'cooler' colour than the Captain. |
Is it only possible to apply as DEP when there's an open vacancy for it? I've read through the information on their career website but I can't find an actual application form.
|
Yes you have to wait for positions to open.
Check the website once or twice a month. When applications are available you will find them by searching for jobs in the operations section. Cheers |
Anyone interested in sharing some sim time in prep for the BA sim assessment plz PM me.
Sorry to re-post this but need a response soon. Looking to do the prep 2nd half of sept. Cheers . |
Does anyone here know BA's reason for making you re-apply after 12 months in the hold pool? |
Sim Questions
Morning all,
Has anyone in the sim been asked any JAR-OPS or ICAO questions on holding patterns, times, speeds and all that fun stuff? Or is it just a bit of mental arithmatic to check your capacity? Cheers |
Hello All
Just curious about the length of time you could currently spend waiting between Stage 1 and the sim check ? Is it likely to be as long as Nov / Dec ? Reason being, I am not required to give notice to my current employer so just wondered if the sim could be done soon after ! Cheers |
Abo,
for the guys undergoing stage 1 assessment on or around 20 Aug, those that were successful were being booked in for sims in Dec |
Hi,
I did my stage 1 interview on 20 Aug and I booked my sim for 12 Nov. This was the earliest available. I do know several applicants are now booking sims in Dec. Even if you pass the sim you just get put into the hold pool and at the moment they are not offering any jobs to those in it. Also you only get 12 months in the hold pool so the sooner you are in the soon you get kicked out. All the best |
Binsleepin
Im pretty sure the 12months starts from day1 so even if you wait a while for the sim it wouldnt keep you swimming any longer |
The 12 months is from the start of the hold pool, not the day1. If it were and the wait for sim slots was long enough, you'd be out before you were in. The other 12 month wait is from day one untill re-applying, this is due to the SHL tests and when they expire.
