The Interview
A while ago in this thread i.e. about six years back near page 3, there was mention of an interview Preparation coach called Penny Austin. The link to her in this earlier posting is now broken. I have tried doing a Google but just find old pprune threads with the same broken link at btinternet. Does anybody have any new information on her? Apparently she was very good and I wish I had used her 6 years ago. I believe it was mentioned she was also a CRM instructor for core courses.

What's the average time people have waited to hear the result of the sim? Is it a phonecall/letter/email I need to obsessively check?

You do need to reach a state of nervous breakdown first, then they let you know. Did mine on a Thursday, heard on Friday the next week.

The closing date states : 29th of April. I am currently working overseas and it will be difficult to get leave before this date. The closing date is 29th April, does this mean that I have to be interviewed before 29th or I must book a date for interview by the 29th? |
I got to add my bit. "Get a head for the sky" is brilliant. Quite pricy for the quality of the book but the content is really great. I got mine on amazon but then annoyingly found it cheaper on their web site.

Could anyone shed any light on at what stage in the process BA send out their medical questionnaire?

The medical questionnaire is sent to you in an email after you have completed the sim and have been verbally offered a start date. The email contains all the details of the verbal offer.

Sorry to say but I think that will be how it's going to be for quite a while. Senior FO's have moved off the 744 to the 777 or are holding their place looking for when the new hardware comes onto the bid system. The 737 no-one knows what's happenning to! There are alot of LGW line creeping into the summer LHR rosters for the airbus though! The 777 is going very senior with internal transfers, the A380 is anyones guess but could also go very senior as could the 787 which will leave new joiners with the Airbus or the 744 (which can't be too bad can it!). Good luck. (As an aside the current BASSA storm in a teacup is having no effect whatsoever on current or forward bookings. The summer looks to be very, very busy!) |
no sponsor, is it a medical questionnaire with BA or an actual medical - had heard it was the latter. Probably tied in with some other procedure e.g. uniform issue - measuring your inside leg whilst they ask you to cough, that sort of thing. ;)

Airstart, it is just a questionnaire for the medical. The uniform is booked 2-3 weeks prior to start date and collected on first day of training.

Talking of seniority, how have things been effected by the Iberia merger? Do you have a merged seniority list or are these staying separate?

No merged seniority lists (yet?) both companies operate as totally seperate carriers using their own AOCs under the top company IAG. The merger was mainly about amalgamating the back office systems and high level management.
So, whilst no seniority list merger is probably a good thing (Iberia are quite top heavy) it is a shame we can't get their staff travel system!!!!! |
If you didn't read the news, you wouldn't notice BA and Iberia had merged. The two airlines are being operated separately for the moment. Never say never, but there's currently no talk of a merger of the pilot work force.
They're doing their flying, we're doing ours, same as always. |
A 737 chap myself,
has any 737 guy recently passed the SIM and offered anything, start date or a hold pool? I am scared that by the time my sim comes (couple weeks) they ran out of 737 spots and...what happens if i pass? pass rate becomes lower or the check pilots wont mind that at all? |
Question regarding the capacity test :O
I got two different versions about how it goes: One is that the shaky cross is the opposite of a flight director (i.e you pilot it rather than follow it). Bar to the left = stick to the left to get it back in the inner circle and bar going up, stick upwards to get back in the circle. Then you get the subtractions and the colored shapes. Now someone told me that that then you have to do the exercise again with stick doing opposite effects on bar to what I just described above or even a mix. For e.g stick up if bar up but stick left if bar to the right. I am trying to figure out which program to use on the cockpitweb program! Regards! |
It's the opposite sense to a flight director, ie bar left, stick right, and it stays that way throughout the exercise.
