You are right Wiggy. In the time I have been in the company, it has always been BALPA’s stated aim to get as much salary as possible into non-variable pay. I found the sudden change in philosophy and positive spin on why it’s a good thing, really quite funny.

Hi guys!

Sorry if its already been mentioned before, but I've been invited to the round 2 assessments for the Eagle (crew capacity) and group assessments. Does anyone have any information on what to expect or any revision material?

Thanks in advance!

As a DEFO joining Euroflyer, how long is the average expected wait to transfer over to mainline? I’m currently at EZY and I got offered Euroflyer… trying to weigh up the benefits of making the move

I would be very surprised if you got a move to mainline in anything less than your initial engagement freeze.

As I’ve said many times on this thread, if Euroflyer is the only offer on the table DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES leave easyJet. The Orange buffoon on the other side of the Atlantic is already engineering the next downturn. When that happens you are not going to welcome the insecurity of being a Gatwick pilot.

Thread search is your friend. There is a lot of excellent information here, most of which is very accurate.

Is he really though?

Or is it more the incompetent Labour government with Rachel Thieves that is doing that. From where I’m standing it looks more Labour/Rachel with a million illegal immigrants with a benefit bill equalling Ł1bn and rising. and the solution - more tax and crash the economy.

anyway back to the topic

Hi all, hope everyone is well. I am starting with BA in May on the A320, Heathrow based, and I’m moving from abroad. I’m still a bit lost on where I should live. I think I’ve narrowed it down between Staines or Reading. Only issue with reading is the longer drive. Also I’m not necessarily set on only these two areas, if anyone has better suggests please do let me know.

I was hoping I could get some help regarding that.

Thanks in advance!

It’s Staines-upon-Thames, please! 😀 People live far and wide who work at LHR but if you want to be close then Windsor, Maidenhead, High Wycombe are all popular. Also consider Guildford, Cobham, Kingston upon Thames, Twickenham, Richmond upon Thames, and the Hamptons. Depending on your budget of course……

It depends on your situation. If you’re young and single then rent somewhere in the smoke and take advantage of everything the metropolis has to offer. Anywhere on the Pic line or close to Paddington makes the commute easy. If you’re bringing a family over and want to put kids in schools etc then have a look around Surrey, pleasant, leafy, good schools but you’ll have to face the M25. Windsor, Ascot, Virginia Water, Maidenhead (closer to the river) etc are very close by in the car.

At the end of the day you need to visit these places before you put down any roots, random people on Prune can’t really help, as what I love about a place might be something you hate.

Depending on where you live, I’d think twice about moving from abroad. If it is commutable, I’d stay living where you are and apply for part time asap. You will be taking home a similar salary as living in the uk but with a semi decent lifestyle.

Unless I had significant ties or an established life already there, I would be doing everything in my power NOT to move to the region!

I had applied for 787 DEP since it was the only job opening by then. I am TR on A320. Now I changed my mind and want to have a go for mainline A320 since there’s a type freeze in 787 and time to command in A320 is very short. Do you think they’re OK if I change my preference in the interview or should I keep them informed before the interview? Are the interviews held based on type?

You should have zero problems with this. A320 left seat is the least popular of positions.

ref moving from abroad to start work at Heathrow (congrats BTW)

Having done a few international moves I always suggest renting someplace, anyplace for the first year and spending that time at leisure discovering all the different areas. House hunting can't be done remotely, far better to do it t a slow pace where there is no panic to find someplace quick. You'll hopefully have friends, family, new hobbies and sports so will want to factor that into your plans.
