What kind of discount do crew get at Heathrow hotels? I can imagine that the hotel bill would stack up significantly if you're stuck doing day trips as a junior FO who's not living locally.

The second kind is right to request. This is 75% or 50% and is three weeks on one week off, or two weeks on two weeks off. I think there is also an option for 87.5% which is 7 weeks on one week off. RTR part time is much easier to get hold of, and can be requested at any point. It is budget dependent though, and this varies. When I went part time about five years ago, it was about a 6 month wait. RTR is not seniority based. You are asked a couple of questions on your application and it is granted based on your answers and the remaining budget.

(Actually the 87.5% might not be a RTR option. I think it is the compromise option if you have applied for aspirational part time for two years in a row and not been granted it.)
Hi, what is RTR part time exactly?

thanks

There are plenty of 3 day/2 day trips going junior as well, as well as some longer ones. The commuting FOs, even junior ones, seem to do fine as eluded to earlier.

RTR is right to request part time, and it is as I described. I am not sure how much more ‘exact’ you want?

The second kind is right to request.

It shows up as “Daily Overseas Allowance - Non Taxable” and “Subsistance Allowance - Non Taxable” on your payslip. The more time you spend abroad while working the larger those numbers are.

Premier Inn is £60 (sometimes cheaper), Hyatt is £73 for crew. There are plenty of crew houses around as well that will do a room for £30-40 a night. Expect to spend around £300-500 per month if you go the hotel route as a junior commuting FO - more when on reserve, less when on leave etc.

would you mind me asking how you managed to get two offers in six months, seeing as you state you were offered both BA and Virgin in November?

Hey,
You will have to request UK licenses from the CAA by yourself in order to get hired. The process takes quite a long time, better do it asap not to get delayed for that...
All the best.

Thanks Winglet747,

The advert wasn’t clear. I just assumed that BA were happy to start the new type rating on my EASA licence as per Conversion route 5, and the LST and CAA application forms would be enough to be hired. The UK CAA confirmed to me that as an ex Uk licence holder, I could do a new UK type rating on my EASA Licence and the LST would then ‘“open” my UK licence.
