In the case of the 380 to 350 secondments, I suspect it is purely about not enough 350 training capacity. I know there are multiple ongoing C38L courses which are actually destined for C35L, and so it would not surprise me if the same is true on the FO side. It makes sense to correct that short term over-crewing of the 380, by moving some dual rated 380 pilots to the 350 for a couple of months. (When I say 380 over-crewing - CAPs are still consistently above average, but it is about spreading the resources around more evenly).

I think you might be thinking of the pre-covid days when you speak of 380 inefficiencies. All fleets are busy.

Yeah for sure. I guess my point being with junior JSS rosters being so bad, junior folk on any status are making decisions which a few years ago would seem unthinkable. Interesting times.

Thanks very much! 🤞🏻

P.S. Reading some replies on this thread, can someone explain the acronyms used like C32L/P32L etc? Cheers
C=captain
P=copilot

32/35/38/77/78 = Fleet (A320, B777 etc)

L=LHR base (now the only base). LGW was X but is now a separate company

Also, CAP=number of hours you need to do for thor month (broken down by seat/fleet)

I cannot claim to have have looked at the FO status packs but that’s not true for the P1 status.

Hold Pool

Has anybody got more more information on hold pool time for NTR candidates? I’m currently at 7 weeks and wondering if things have maybe slowed down due to training capacity?

Strong expectations that yes there will be. No training capacity at the moment and the 777 heavily undercewed.

I've DM'd you with a contact for a 747 sim outfit that specialises in BA prep.

Currently waiting on an applicable date to book a sim check for DEFO LHR. In the meantime, would anyone be kind enough to PM some sim feedback.

Also, are the SH nightstop trips more popular with the senior guys or can you expect some of these as a junior?

The Cairo, Amman, IST, Larnaca and Lisbon are very popular and generally quite senior, especially if they are standovers (30h +). So might be tricky to get them when you're junior...

I agree with the jist of what youre saying, but id say you're a bit out with the destinations. AMM yes, CAI, Yes, ish, but LCA, IST and LIS go fairly junior now. Even pre covid I was getting them at 70-80%seniority, not all the time, but often enough.

I'd say domestic nightstops & Italy seem to be the senior SH trips these days, but honestly most nightstops are OK. The biggest issues are volume of work, and weekend working id say.

As for DE LH they are making offers - I've been told first hand - almost certainly 350.

making offers to whom? They’re not advertising DE LH in their current recruitment campaign and BALPA have already nipped this in the bud …for now.

Two aquaintences, 1 is ex PHP, the other was a DEP in the current campaign but missed his initial start date for personal reasons. Both within the last 2/3 weeks.

I would be extremely wary of joining at the bottom of the 777 list and staying there for the best part of the next decade. Workload is utterly horrendous on that fleet in particular.
