Roster Changes

If you're working lates the next day and they change you with less than 24 hours but more than 12 hours notice to an early shift are you able to refuse it? My company doesn't operate a block window of any sort so lifestyle planning might as well go out the window.......

It's all legal but it's screwed my day up and I'm getting sick to death of roster changes. One of these days I'm going to refuse and then I'll find out!

Any legal types out there know the answer to this question?

Having some lifestyle would be nice.

C'mon Scottie - who do you work for?

I'm genuinely interested - email me if you like.

Wink

Just a thought but why do you answer the phone unless you have to be contactable...? In BA unless you are contactable there is no requirement to accept any phone calls from the company. If they can't get hold of you, you can't have your roster changed!

Scottie:-

Get a call reader. I did and our quality of life improved dramatically. The phone call at 2100 that you just KNEW would be a change from lates to earlies no longer threatened our domestic stability. The same went for that call ten minuted after the end of standby.

The culture in many airlines, for want of a more definitive system, required you to receive a change verbally.

It is up to you not to be bullied.

I have caller ID on both phones and it is very useful

However my company requires us to call in after everyduty to see if there are any changes

So that's where you get scuppered.

However I've calmed down a bit since writing the original post and life ain't that bad

I'm afraid within the guidlines of CAP371 its legal but unethical.
You need some sort of rostering agreement with your company for it to work, don't hold your breath though, we have an agreement with our OPs Director but crewing seem to think otherwise !

The major problem arises when you are rostered for say 2 earlies followed by 4 lates. You take out the missus, girlfriend, boyfriend what ever, late evening day 2, have a beer or five or bottle of wine or 2, you are OK for the 8 or 10 hours bottle to throttle rule; you are not due to report to say 1400 or if you are lucky 1630 local (our company rule is 10 hours bottle to throttle ) but on arrival at home crewing phone , someones gone sick and they now want you to do the earlies. Clearly you are well beyond the 8 /10 hour limit, you politely point this out but now get accussed of "refusing a duty"and a disciplinary is on the way !

Even if you do the sensible thing and then go sick your self , you are still in the deep and sticky coz they then don't believe you.

Cada da catcha 22 ! Not Good.
