Reality check 2

Hi all,


The following was discussed on a board meeting this morning.

We've been getting a lot of questions why ÍFF is not helping members out financially. Here's a little reality check.

ÍFF is little more than 4 years old with less than 200 members and that's only the last year. We started out as 15 members.

AND U ENDED UP WITH OVER 200 MEMBERS , MOST OF THEM EXPATH, LURED TO FORCIBLY SIGN A LOCAL CONTRACT AND SWAP TO LOCAL LICENCE, WITHOUT NEVER BEING REALLY REPRESENTED: IT WILL SUFFICE JUST REMEMBERING THE FOREIGN EXPERTS TAX DEDUCTIONS THAT IFF SO FIERCELY OPPOSED.

YEP: WE DID THE MATH ALL RIGTH!

In other words we are a micro union but with a big heart.

A BIG HEART, FOR SURE : NOT QUITE SURE HOW SOUTH IN YOUR BODY IS LOCATED.

We have obligations towards members with regards to the Health and Sick Fund and claiming your unpaid salaries. For that we have to pay our lawyer a fee.

I HOPE WE WILL SEE LAWYER INVOICES AND BANK TRANSFER RECEIPTS*TO THE UNLUCKY FELLOW PILOTS WHO ARE IN NEED.


We also have to pay Guðrún Birna her salary plus a lot of other expenses.

I FEEL FOR YOUR SECRETARY: BUT HOW IS HER SALARY A PRIORITY OVER MINE???

WHICH OTHER EXPENSES??? YOUR BEER? YOUR DINNERS? YOUR SUMMER*HOUSES? CAN WE SEE A BALANCE SHEET OF WHERE OUR MONEY ARE??



We are doing our best to gather information on jobs out there and setting up roadshows like today's show with Parc.


DOES THAT COST MONEY??

We are also offering our facilities to former ÍFF members that were WOW air management staff like Reynald, who is signing logbooks and Davíð that will be handing out the training documents.

AWESOME: SHALL WE GIVE THEM A SALARY? AGAIN THEY ARE GREAT: thank you!!!! IS THAT A COST? DO THEY GET PAID? IN THAT CASE I VOLUNTEER TO COME AS WELL AND I WITHDRAW MY THANKS!

Needless to say our funds are not as big as the other union's like VR and FFÍ.

You've probably heard that VR is paying some salary for their members and FFÍ is assessing their situation. We are not in ASÍ (the big collective Labour Union) and we can not afford to take a loan to pay you the amount of the claim beforehand. In other words we can not pay you any salary due to size of our funds.


WOW: SILLY ME: I JUST BOOKED A RESORT IN BALI FOR ONE MONTH!!!

ÍFF will remain operative until **** storm is over!

COMMUTATIVE PROPERTY

Rumors has it that Skúli wishes to start a brand new Company on the ashes of the deceased Wow, like the phenix...a mythological creature....
He obviously has the same “dream team” in mind to lead it: those who managed it so well so far and caused a pitch dive to make a 737 max blush .

Newspaper article states the Unions allegedly compensated the employees: let me reassure you that IFF has not! But hey, how to blame them? “They have their hands full...”

On some sort of a Stockholm syndrome the “usual suspects” on workplace keep on cheering and clapping: BOHICA! ( google it up ,in case you are not familiar).

I will not entertain a disquisition on ethics or integrity: we are way past that! Just a short reminder of a simple arithmetic principle:

Commutative property of addition: Changing the order of addends does not change the sum.




Skúli Mogensen, once the CEO of the failed WOW Air airline, is now seeking investors in order to start a new airline, tentatively called NewCo.

Frettabladáið was first to report on the matter, their source material being an investment proposal dated yesterday. While WOW Air West bankrupt just á week ágó. Skúli is already looking for up to 40 million USD in investment cash to get his new company off the ground.

The company, tentatively called NewCo, is planned to be a budget airline, much like WOW Air was. Apart from Skúli, other key executives from WOW are also a part of the project.

The presentation states that they have already sought an airline operators license and hope to begin with five airbuses; four A321s and one A320neos. They aim to be flying between Keflavík International Airport and 13 destinations in Europe and North America: London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, Dublin, Tenerife, Alicante, Frankfurt, Barcelona, New York, Baltimore and Boston.

Should this come to pass, Skúli and his key executives would retain 51% control of NewCo, while the investors ponying up the capital would collectively own a 49% stake.

The news has been puzzling to many Icelanders across social media, especially in light of WOW Air’s bankruptcy, and the resulting in the termination of 1100 employees and counting. Many of these workers have subsequently been compensated by labour unions, rather than by Skúli.

How and whether this new company will get off the ground remains to be seen.

Pay us our F****g salaries instead of playing monopoly and going on television, will ya’!

reminds me of a small British airline brought by the Icelandic’s and utterly run into the ground .

Iceland Express?

I once sent my wife and kids from Gatwick via Iceland to Winnipeg with a lot called Iceland Express.
Did they have any connection with WOW?

Astraeus Airlines? 100% Icelandic owned in the later years, same group that launched Iceland Express for which Astraeus wet leased I believe. 100% run into the ground. I’ve come to the conclusion that any airline that is Icelandic owned or managed is better to be kept at arms length (or farther for that matter).

Indeed, so this is Take 3 or 4 depending were we start counting.

I hope the good gang from Rygge got on-board IcelandAir. But I suspect a few got comfortable in WOW.
Anyway it was all to good to be true.

WOWair acquired Iceland express as a quick way to get an AOC. I’m not sure what the deal was, but I have little faith in that islands “ entrepreneurs “.

Except for a fact Iceland Express had no AOC. WOW Air AOC was a fresh one from scratch.

WOW air is in the final stages of finalizing equity raise with a group of investors. All flights have been postponed until documentation with all parties involved have been finalized. Further information will be given at 9 am. “

That chip that you've always had on your shoulder has eventually got the better of you. It was evident on the line too. However, you appear to have got what you wanted. It's done, now move along.

Despite what is written above, the place was full of fantastic crew and will be welcomed wherever they go. Good luck to all of you finding new jobs.

Iceland is the least aviation friendly country I’ve been to in Europe other than France. I thought the Brits were uptight until I flew into Iceland. There was a car that followed us from taxiway to our stand, monitoring our taxi speed. Then she parked in front of our Boeing, followed all staff around, refused our mechanics to get their tools from the cargo, attempted and refused aircraft entry, then tried to threaten us with fines. We ushered her off and closed up. If the environment for aviation is like this, I feel bad for any operator attempting to start up. Oh, and pizza is $9 a slice.

Dear land of ice,
Rest well at nigth, because I have settled down long before you went drinking your beer at Videy Islands , that nigth on december when the termination letters were sent out , “to trim the excessive fat in the Company “.

“What Í have always wanted” , if you had read all my posts, it was to have an equal treatment and equal salary compared to unxeperienced, unqualified, unsuitable , unprepared ,GREEN but POPULAR & BLESSED pilots ; also Í wanted all those clamouring promises tó be mainted and all the neverending crap posted, published and Mailed tó stop : certainly Í did nót want to be cheated, lied and finally not even paied not only of my salary but also my pension contributions.

In regard to those few wonderful people working in wow, I have always had them in the highest consideration, especially those lured with insulting contracts to live in lousy dirty barracks in a ghetto and treated like sons of á lesser god, forced in á local contract, required to change to a local licence, coerced to pay contribution in á system that will nót even pay them Unemployment benefits or support because they were hired for less than á year on the fantastic permanent contract, obliged to pay á Union who openly doesn’t give á damn about foreigners and mainly cares about “sponsoring” social events , summer houses and booze.

My Dear Land of Ice.... u have all my sympathy: you are á true believer, You have my deepest and sincere respect.

One thing I really liked in your post: Good luck tó all of you finding á new job. And it is not sarcasm... this time.

My 2 cents on what/who/how might have driven WOW Air to the ground after a little get together and discussion last week with the "boys" (now ex-colleagues, all foreigners):

- incompetent management due to the fact that promotions were solely based on nepotism
- some of flt.deck and cabin crew actively participating in sinking the ship by excessive amount of sick calls/not reporting for flts./trainings during weekends, public holidays, football worldcup, festivals, etc. and flying only for several "bought off days" when need arised - all tolerated by above mentioned management by no one being fired/made example of, etc.
- unnecessary transportation and accommodation costs during layovers due to mostly city center hotels + private shuttle companies, just because Icelandair has the same...
- of course the usual other (fuel, leasing, outstanding fees, scheduling, pricing) financial factors of we all know (or not) about.

I cannot comment on training as always had external (UK) examiners but some of the FO-s really had a "chip on their shoulder", mostly for two reasons, i gathered:

- being icelandic and well connected with the above mentioned management
- just graduated from Lufthansa flight school thinking that they are the best of the best

Oh, and the worst, most unprofessional cabin crew i have ever came across my entire career both as a commander and as passenger.

Anyhow, had a blast, met some awesome and really good people. It was a great experience, all in all.

As always no offense was intended and good luck to all.
