GOing Orange

Now we have to dye all our shirts orange, what can we expect?
re: Operations (no role reversal?), night stops + basing, rosters, duty pay, staff travel etc.?

The answers below are with regard to the present set up. Any changes can only be speculative. Hope it helps.

Shirt Orange - only if you are cabin crew, otherwise pretty standard white shirt - black uniform.

Operation - if role reversal means encouraging the FO to make decisions - yes. If it means monitored approaches - no, TO and landing all by PF.

Night stops - kept to a minimum. None unless operationally needed.

Duty pay - yes.

Basing - presently after 6 months, base change possible. (LTN gets a pay supplement to encourage people to be there but that was largely based on GO being just down the road at STN).

Staff travel - presently only on EZY/EZS but booked. What happens to present GO arrangements remains to be seen - probably not top of the list of things to do right now.

Yep, I meant monitored approaches by role reversal.
I guess this means 240 pilots to be retrained!
What's the deal with the -700s?
Is it a couple of days in the sim? Do people mix 'n' match, or is it considered a seperate fleet from the -300?
w.r.t to our good selves, night stops, like wise at a minimum, duty pay is per sector rather than per hour, bases are STN, BRS, EMA, and staff travel; we also had (have) arrangements with Buzz + Ryanair, and BA (about to expire in June I think).
What's the profit share/share scheme set-up with you guys?
And.....what's the management (I used the 'm' word!!) setup like?

700 course is 3 days groundschool plus 3 days in the sim, two of which are the check. Profit share doesn't exist but we get a loyalty bonus after 2 years - see the website. Yes you do mix and match between the 300 and 700 - it's not a separate fleet.

What's the feeling at Go? Personally I am all for it if it puts the two companies in a stronger position.

Personally I think this will be a good move for all concerned. Certainly no danger of job losses given the rate of growth of both airlines.

As far as easyJet is concerned, it ain't bad. Commercially very well run. Operationally can be a bit dysfunctional at times. The cracks show a bit every now and then, but getting better.

-700 and -300 operated side by side. Not as separate fleets. (Crews trained initially on -300 and then transition later to -700, but that approach is now changing as more -700's delivered. Will soon be dual-rating pilots on initial training I believe.)

Looking forward to a few new destinations. Hope you're feeling Orange!!

Flying pay is also per sector rather than hour. (Long medium or short sectors vary the amount).

There is likely to be close coordination between your present trainers and the EZY ones regarding when to modify procedures -latest before the crews mix, obviously. Things tend to be pretty Boeing, with UK interpretations.

From time to time shares have been available at offer rates. How this will be dealt with in the future remains to be seen, but strong company identification is encouraged.

Interesting times - wish I could stay on...

I was flying yesterday for the first time since the announcement.
Being a bank holiday, the office was mostly empty so the only feedback I've had is really from flightcrew.

Overall, I'd say the mood is subdued, but cautiously optimistic. I've no doubt the overall future will be positive, with more routes, aircraft, better job security etc., but we're all quite attached to the Go brand, which has been built up over four years, and is quite distinct in it's own right. So I think there is undoubtably emotions involved in losing it, (if that is the case, which it would seem to be), and some people are quite upset at that, notwithstanding the positive points above.

It will be a shame to lose the 'cozyness' of Go, by which I mean going from a small airline where you know most people, can chat with everyone in the office, etc., to a large 3,000+ person company, 55 aircraft spread over 9 bases and three countries!!! Although to be fair, you're probably thinking the same!

As always, the devil will be in the detail, and the uncertainty now is in having no idea what the detail will be.

Practically speaking, I would have thought nothing will change until the end of the summer schedules at the earliest anyway.

Finally, most important question:

Do you get crew meals?!!!

We certainly do get crew meals, Zulu - and they have improved a lot recently, no longer do you have to have a cast iron constitution to eat them ( it helps though). Car parking is paid for too!!!

So, Go guys will be happy that they get crew meals ( albeit the usual cr*p). Will they be just as happy to realise that they will lose their tax allowance because of the "free" meals.

For those of you unaware....Go get 70% tax free on their sector pay, Easy get 30% tax free on their sector pay....the reason ???? Go don't do free meals.

So on a good month of , say £1200 in sector pay for a Captain, The Go Captain will take home £1056 approx and the Easy Captain £864.

Thats £192 worth of "Free" meals.

At easyjet, for a month of about 50 sectors and a couple of night stops a captain will pick up around £4200 pm and an FO about £2900 pm.

I think night stops will be on the increase because of the CDG base.

A notice in the crew room today states that the the profit figure for this year at Go will be £17m. Way way ahead of predictions and hence prp for me will be in 4 figures. Do easyJet have any prp?

Loyalty bonus kicks in from year 2 .

2-5 yrs gives 5% basic
5-10 gets you 10% basic
10+ gets you 15% basic

ADC check your maths:

Using the figures you quoted (don't know if they are accurate!)

EZY £864 Go 1056 = diff £192.

For that, on a 4 sector day, you get a reasonable choice of rolls/sandwiches AND a choice of hot meals, lovingly cooked by our terrific cabin staff.

Yep, ADC's maths has let him down, must be the strain of working out how much he lost on the GO share options! (ok ok, if we get any!). Average month would cost about £160 extra tax.

Sorry RR, maths were conducted late at night.

It's still one heck of a lot of Tesco's finest. Having recently sampled the EZY Snack Pak, I could have bought better in my local garage for £2.

..And I'll bet your options will be swapped out for Ezy options, probably matching the existing Ezy share option scheme. SO I wouldn't rush out to buy that new car just yet

Snack Pack?

What's this 'Snack Pack' you've tried?

I've been EZ for some years now and I've never heard of it - let alone eaten one!

Also, can you enlighten us on your knowledge of the EZ share option scheme?

Can't comment directly on what you can or cannot get from Tescos but, during a longish day in the saddle, or the longer sectors (eg Athens) I, for one, really appreciate a hot meal (which have noticeably improved over the last few months) followed by fruit and/or yoghurt.

It really beats a roll/sandwich any day.

A Snack pack is what I was given as I operated the EZY 531 to Palma last week. One sandwich, 1 packet of crisps, 1 chocolate bar.

The EZY share scheme is fairly public knowledge, and is better than the Go one, just has a longer wait time than the GO guys are expecting. But thats Aviation I suppose.........
