The other somewhat scandalous fact is that the most recent guys in the company were in some cases only notified by their CRAP agency today via a phone call.
Some others found out by default, reading Facebook, or via an email from their Base Chief Captain if they were at a base where he could be bothered.
The most Junior guys have been given 4mths , others 3 or 2.
10 Captains out of a total of 60 pilots laid off. Some FO's have not even completed their initial line check.
What happened to foresight/planning. . .Ooops sorry, forgot, this is "Aviation", how silly of me.

If you have the time to read through my total posting history (nobody in their right mind would) you would see that I was very sceptical about the initial contract in HEL back in 2011 with ARPI (it was woeful) & then quite content with what was offered in 2012 when I joined. I have always maintained a healthy cynicism of the whole Contractor/Core scenario & have never held back in my criticism of some of the failings of the NPU to secure fair & equitable terms for ALL pilots "employed" by NAS.
I have always told it like I saw it at the time, 2 and a half years ago I was recommending it to any FR crew I met whilst flying with them from home to base, now I usually tell them to stay put.
I think changing ones opinion is a good thing, it is not hypocritical, it is actually having an open mind & learning from what transpires around you. Like most recent(ish) entrants, my spectacles may have been slightly rose(red?) tinted, they were after all, quite convincingly charming. Unfortunately like most people . . . I now see things with more of a blue/yellow tint.

Still hear and like most I only found out in the last 24 hours.
TBH I'm not surprised, but disappointed by the way this has been handled, latest rumour is that this is due to a spread sheet error in crew planning !!! i think it reflects that the company having grown too quickly and some departments have not been able to keep pace.
For the individuals effected it is not good and will tarnish Norwegians reputation for some period to come in the pilot community.
We all knew that we were over crewed going into the winter, i won't insult anyone by trying to put a positive spin on this, there isn't any, if its a one 'off' event then Norwegian pilot reputation will recover and 2015 is planned to be a steady as you go year.
But no not good

Maybe a syndical view but I bet there was no spreadsheet error, but in order to encourage crew from FR they couldn't use seasonal contacts. So instead knowing full well they would lay of guys over the winter forfilled recruitment figs for the summer.
Would anyone have left FR if the offer was a 9 month on 3 month off contract?
Further this with employment law in Norway where they can only use contractors for short periods without being made perm. And the fact the 2 year timeframe will start again on these guys getting perm if they are to cone back in March.
Personally I think there's too many positives for NAS for this not yo be a calculatated move.
I really do hope people stear clear of this company that's just achieved the Race-To-The-Bottom cup.

Norwegian always was, and always will be operating dual standards, the " locals" will enjoy the protection of the mother ship and the " contractors" will be hung out to dry, it was always apparent and those working there should do so with their eyes open. As for " tarnishing the reputation" , NAS didn't have a reputation to preserve in the first place, OK, it provided valuable employment and an alternative at a time when guys needed it and THEY needed pilots. Perhaps they have now naturally shrunk to the correct crewing levels and the "bullish" recruitment aka " company promotion" should be stopped. A few lines of bad press will undo their years of positive spin on growth. Have Ryanair and Easy ever actually "sacked" pilots due to seasonal demands? Jet2 have the courtesy to let guys know the score before they join, perhaps NAS can learn a lesson in protocol here..

NTR B737 interview in Fornebu
Hi !
I will go on Monday at Fornebu for the NTR interview. How was yours ? I hope you did well...
Could you tell me about the selection process, what is the group exercise about ? The technical questions are easy or not ?
Is there a sim check afterwards or you directly go into the rating ?
