How well can you or the airlines predict?
Of course ones ability to predict can be put down to nothing more than luck - life is too complex - however using a measuring stick from the past we can see how badly and arrogantly some airlines do predict.
Back then would you have predicted how things are today? Only you know the truth. Think about it with your next career moves to the likes of Monarch, Virgin, Thomson or flexicrew at easyJet.

Sophisticated trolling? I think someone smoked cannabis as a youngster - a little bit of paranoia there old bean. It was meant as an interesting and light hearted comparison to today. Look how much things can change. Who knows what IS around the corner.

Blackandbrown,
Interesting video, makes you wonder what the next few years will bring.
I have to ask though, are you suggesting that the above airlines you mentioned are places not to consider applying to? If that's the case, in your opinion, where is anyone meant to apply? I don't think anyone else is hiring......

I am suggesting that moving to Virgin, Monarch or Thomson is a risky move. It's all well and good someone with 10-15 years seniority in the company recommending it but then they've been lucky, want more beneath them and become higher up in a bigger tree. All I'm saying is appreciate the risk of it all. As to where can someone go - I'd suggest BA ( though I think that the Ts and Cs will decline - regardless of what you sign up for ), emirates, the middle east or Asia. That's if you want job security and to be paid what you're worth. If you want to be in the UK I'd genuinely recommend going back to uni and becoming an accountant or owning your own funeral directors, old peoples home or repossession business. Ultimately do what you like but don't complain on here if/ when you are made redundant from one of these companies.

I would agree flexi crew is not even a starter!
Virgin/Thomson a reasonable bet. If you can get in!
Monarch? It's been around longer than British Airways (in its current guise). Independent and without government protection and now with a huge amount of investment going in over the next three years, a pretty safe bet.
BA, who knows? I think if I were euro fleet, I would be nervous! I can see that all been contracted out to a cheaper operator like Flybe? It is flybes aim to take on such feeder ops for legacy carriers. It has already begun nwith more than one euro carrier.
As for your video, it was an interesting blast from the past.

And your point is what exactly? That no one can predict the future? Here's my suggestion. Stop trolling and read the book 'Black Swan' by Nassim Taleb. The author shows how it's the unexpected that catches you out. This chap came to fame because he predicted the financial crash. His analysis was based on the fundamentals of what he saw happening in the markets.
Will the companies you mention be around in ten years time? You, I and fellow ppruners have no way of answering that with any certainty. Most, if not all, pilots will make as best an informed choice as they can with the information they have at the time. As professional pilots what else can we do except keep our eyes and ears open but the same time I don't see the point of stressing about something that realistically we have no power over. I was given two good nuggets of wisdom when I started flying. Firstly, choose the company that gives you the lifestyle you want and secondly, pay off your mortgage as soon as possible!

From a synopsis on the book:
The main idea in Taleb's book is not to attempt to predict black swan events, but to build robustness against negative ones that occur and be able to exploit positive ones.
I wasn't predicting anything - I was giving an opinion and showing how things have changed.
Fade to grey
Welcome to B&B's world - stating the bleedin' obvious!
Basically, don't join Virgin, Monarch or Thomson.....er that's it. Oh and I would re read Black Swan but the mate I lent it to still has it. Was that random or should I have predicted it?
