If you're bus rated, you'll go to the 330. 340 comes post 500hrs/2 OPC's so 12-24 months. Non bus = the 747. Or at least that's whats happened the last couple of years

Just out of curiosity...why the wait between 330 and 340 flying? If you've managed the transition from 320 to 330, there can't be much more to it, can there? I gather Emirates do (or did, now they're losing them) the same thing.

Ah interesting, thanks. Off topic...can you do a CCQ from 320 to 380?

Yes, provided it is approved by the relevant authority.

it's just a big 320 with "4 engines for long haul"

Virgin advert on LinkedIn.... They are open for applications by B747 type rated FOs today until 10th October. Website confirms it.

Doesn't apply to me but May interest some....

Looks like they are pulling out the stops to ensure they don't need to hire non type-ratied guys this time.

I think there may in the future be opportunities for non tyre rated, but only when they can't get anybody TR. At the moment there seems to be plenty of 330 rated folk coming home from the gulf, the 747 I'm not so sure about.

But even when it's non type rated it will more than likely be 320/737-757 rated so they can do a shortened TR course. I think, and only my personal opinion , but it is very unlikely there will be recruitment from those rated on something less transferable ie, bae146, rj85, emb145-175-195, Q400, other turboprops and the like.

All supposition but I don't think it's far off the mark.

How is having a 737/757 TR a vehicle for a shortened 744 TR course? (a genuine question btw, I thought the 744 would be a whole new TR)

But my point is flying a 737/757 does not qualify you for just a differences course and a shortened TR onto the 744 does it?
Also it's just an aeroplane. I can't see why it would be any harder for a CRJ/E190/DH8D/IL96/E145 pilot to get through the TR than a B734/B738/B752/B763 pilot.

Can't answer for the 747, but a 757/767 rating gives access to a much shorter 777 TR course. Hope this helps.

I understand those coming from a 737NG background can reduced the type rating on the 777 and I understand the displays on the 744 to be very similar.

787-900 will be a new type for the airline given it does not operate 777s (some similarity with the 787). Perhaps that will be an entry point for non-typed pilots but I imagine that all of the A340 pilots will be switching over and occupying most of the seats.

787 is a common type rating with the 777. At least it is in my licence.

Assuming it goes through, what are the consequences of the new EU FTL scheme? If you can do 2-crew to LAX, are the chaps and chappettes currently being hired already redundant?

Here we go - the old redundancy murmurings. Some of you need to let it go! Life has moved on!
