Ellan, you're right, it won't only be Boeing guys onto the B744.

Entry requirements normally 3000hrs Airbus/Boeing, typically people join with 4000+.

Wide-body not essential.

I take it for those with jet time, but no boeing/airbus experience it's a complete no go?

Shame really, the Embraers are advanced pieces of kit!

CB - is it still difficult for an internal fleet transfer at Virgin? If, for example, a senior FO on the A340 wanted to bid over to the Beach Fleet, would that not be possible these days?

It would depend on a whole host of factors I guess (Business need, operational numbers/headcount etc), so not as simple as just bidding or placing a transfer request

Would the airbus pilots still be dual rated 330/340? It's going to be a fair time until the 340s are gone and I would have thought they'd need a little slack in numbers on the 340 to do training onto the 787?

How many are left in the pool? Last I heard it was just under 20?

Take home salary

Whilst on the subject, could anyone in the know give an idea of the monthly take home pay for a new joiner? (After tax and pension, including average allowances.)

It may be worth keeping an eye open tomorrow on the Virgin careers website!

One option to increase your seniority in Virgin would be to join BA now....then in a few years time when the Virgin pilots slot in underneath you you'll have 700 virgin pilot behind you...

B747 and A340 rated FOs looking for a change should perhaps cast their eyes over the Virgin careers website today...

Ah damn shame it's only for type-rated guys. Better luck next time.

Wouldn't say I'm in the know

But a have a fair few friends there and they say they will be after boeing guys next year for the 787. With probably a preference for 777 guys

They will be looking for Airbus Pilots with A320 experience or ex-military service personnel in about 2 months from now.

Or maybe a tactic to make sifting CVs easier vs course dates? How many 747 rated guys fit those requirements and would be interested?

There are plenty of 747 operators that'll have FOs that'll want to move on. Try the freight operators for starters....

Virgin have always asked simply for Boeing/ Airbus time, but are now asking for type specific. BA has moved in a similar direction over the last few years.

Is it just me sensing a worrying move towards a further narrowing of career progression? It's become an established wisdom that the traditional jump from TP to jet is far more difficult than it was, now it appears specific type ratings are becoming more important than just generic jet time.
