Very very different between the bases, some have only long sectors and few overnights, others have 16 to 20 nights away from home with short sectors. All have a lot of roster changes at the moment though, expect your roster to be changed 20+ times a month. Since they subleased 17 TuiFly planes at 4000 hours productivity a year per plane from november on long sectors will be flown by TuiFly crews only beginning in November.
Of course, AB does not hire at the moment and will not hire DE anymore, FO positions will be filled from their own sponsored MPL scheme first when they should become available again. At the moment no upgrades but we do expect a mean time to upgrade of around 10 to 12 years in the future, might be considerably faster if they try to expand again at those insane rates they did in 2005 to 2007.
All salaries are gross amounts, usual german taxes apply.

Thank you Denti for that information.
I realise no hiring at the moment, but historically, how have pilots been selected for the different fleets (excluding the LTU pilots who were already flying Airbus and DBA pilots who flew 737s)? Have newhires been required to have a type rating before starting? Have pilots been able to request Boeing or Airbus or has that been a function of
Cheers

- previous type rating and experience
- aircraft availability at a specific base
- vacancy at the time of hiring?

they did hire from various backgrounds; during their massive expansion a lot of people have been hired within a a short time. a lot also from the flight school as well. aircraft type and base is solely on demand. afterwards you can be on the list for a requested base transfer. transfers on aicraft types only on company demand. (mostly former 737 pilots into airbus fleets).

In the last few years selection for all fleets and sub-companies were done by interpersonal and decision on which fleet or company to start was based on demand taking the wishes of the applicant into consideration. Of course if you had a rating and experience chances were high to end up on the same type again, simply to save some money.
At the moment there is not much cross-training, only a few captains on the txl base were allowed to change from boeing to airbus.
It is not completely clear at the moment how the different fleets will change over the next year and a lot will depend on the general economy im sure. The boeing fleet will receive 26 new aircraft until the end of 2010 and i dont know how many new airbuses will arrive in that time. At the moment no expansion is planned and new aircraft will only replace old ones. On the boeing fleet that meens better fleet standardization, cat IIIb availability and newer avionic features like GLS and IAN approach capability, oh, and of course the short field performance kit for all new ones too. Dunno much about the bus as im not on that fleet.
