Pretty sure the only way into EJ in the near future ( i.e next year ) will be via the ctc flexi scheme. Sorry to say that as there is nothing worse than swimming with no news on what is going on.

Alas, I can only concur with ROSCO328. It is virtually inconceivable to me that easyJet will be taking experienced direct entry pilots in the next 2 years. The following, however, is a quote from Andy Harrison (easyJet CEO) who yesterday sent an e-mail to easyJet staff. This is all in the public domain and may be obtained easily elsewhere, but it does give some cause for optimism.
He said, "Following the annual strategy discussion, the Board has unanimously agreed the following fleet growth plan:
Fleet Plan Total Aircraft
At 30 September 2008, 165
At 30 June 2009, 177
At 30 September 2009, 181
At 30 September 2010, 187
At 30 September 2011, 196
At 30 September 2012, 207
Over the medium term, we expect to grow our seat capacity by around 7.5%."

Ultimately, these aircraft require to be crewed and it brings hope to our numerous temporary summer pilots who may yet get work over the winter. There will be 10 more aircraft from where we were in Jun 2009 compared to the plan for Sep 2010. That is 60 more crews (or thereabouts!).
Much negative press is given to easyJet, but from where I sit right now, we are one of 2 airlines in the UK likely to announce a profit for this year. Those fortunate enough to have permanent contracts have more job security than any other airline in Europe. Despite some terrible gaffs by our management in their handling of their employees, there are signs they are recognising how much better it is to work with us rather than against us. We all know that the airline industy is a game of snakes and ladders - you can very quickly find yourself on the wrong square! Nonetheless, this is a good place to be at the moment, and I for one am glad to be on the inside looking out rather than vice versa! I truly hope those swimming in the hold pool may get a sniff soon - good luck to one and all.

Thanx for the info's Norman...I think Easyjet is a serious company and that's exactly the reason I can't understand why they made so many DEP assessments more than a year ago and then nobody been called, while seeing cadets and flexi or whatever they're called gettin'in.
Cheers

For the short term (2-3 years) the company can manage the expansion through various flexi schemes/summer contracts. After that my guess would be that it would have to start hiring DEPs to maintain experience levels. I have no doubt it is a fine line at the moment between the right mix of Cadets and experienced SFOs as far as Operation Risk assessment is concerned. We could find an increase in things such as unstable approaches/Go arounds etc which could start to increase the insurance premiums.
As for why so many were interviewed and placed in the pool. The board has only just signed off on the revised fleet numbers; up to that point there was a very clear strategy of aggressive expansion hence the need for high numbers of candidates.
Good luck to those in the pool but I think you need to have a plan B.

Yeah, a plan B....even because they introduced this 2 year period to stay in the pool, then you're kicked out....Ryanair style...

FDM data DOES have a direct impact on insurance premiums, the whole stable approach push over the past few years is used in presentation to the insurers- ezy broke the mould in thos approach of linking FDM to the insurers.

Followers of easyJet recruitment may be interested in a conversation I had earlier today. I spoke to one of our 'contract' cadets. These are guys who were CTC cadets and were due to be kicked out this September. Many of them (I do not know yet how many) received an e-mail today offering them 4 days a month over the winter at £200/day plus sector pay. Whilst not great news, it is a whole lot better than no flying at all. An interesting development.
