I have never read so much crap for years. I can only assume that you have very little experience in aviation.
I have been training now for over 40 years and I love the ex-FR pilots. They can do non-precision approaches and circling approaches up the ying yang and are generally much better at hand-flying than most.
I can think of more than one flag carrier that would consider an NDB to be an emergency!

To much anti Ryanair sentiment getting the better of several posters here and thanks to those who know posting some sense.
The SSTR costs are in line with many other type rating organisation's charges.
Extra circuits are part of the deal if needed, the only recharge I have heard about is extra sims recommended by the OAA (GECAT) before the LST, even retraining in the sim for circuits after the 21 day expiry is RYR paid.
I heard that some cadet/s were sent back for more training on circuits at CAE but not sure who paid there.
Also there are some who fail the course or withdraw of their own will, like any other course.
As for onward recruitment, bring on the RYR guys any day, as their standards are high and the risk to a new employer of them not passing the course is very low.
There will be no holding pool of cadet awaiting line training as it costs RYR to put them in the sim every 21 days for recency checks if they dont fly.
So much rubbish is spouted here I wonder if any of the detractors have ever worked in an airline as flight crew or know much truth about RYR.
Too many believe rumours and repeat them until its become the de facto truth on the rumour circuit.
Of course I can think that there are many posters here who rubbish RYR because they failed to get in at selection and hold a grudge, others jump on the band wagon because their lives are so ordinary and boring that they cant think of anything better to do.
Give it a break, guys / girls let those who want to pay do so, for there will always be those who can and will do so to get that first job.
Let RYR crews fly their aircraft without unjustified twaddle being published here.

Base training £20k each??????????? Base training is 6 circuits for a cadet, that hardly costs FR £20k per head! I know fuel has gone up but surely this figure is incorrect, or do you mean line training costs?

fr and trainees v experienced fo's
Talking from experience it pays fr not the trainees to use them on line training with training captains and then to ship them off to a brookfield contract. fr get the advantage not the trainees

There are 150hr students starting the TQ course. It was the case that OCC;s were paid by RYR, certainly DEC's. Also, type rated or class rated pilots did not need base training. Their LT was much shorter so they were productive solo much quicker. Without full accounting facts it's difficult to know.
