Ryanair: New Cadets Vs Experieneced De Fo

Just wondering when FR do start recruiting again the "300"TR places will they be replaced by the FO from the likes of XL Zoom etc. Will it mean FR will not be interested in cadets and TR anymore?

captplaystation 23rd September 2008 10:28

It is widely believed that training courses are more of a financial benefit to RYR than a loss, and much of the future capacity is going to be done in house.
So, I think you can work out the answer easily enough.

Bose Wave 28th September 2008 12:08

Quite the opposite actually, FR dont want experienced FOs joining because they dont pay FR anything and they cost more to FR in terms of wages, so if Fact experienced FOs are NOT what FR want, they want the new cadet with no hours who will pay handsomely for the TR. FR make a few grand on each cadet and pay them less.... easy when you look at it through FR eyes.

FR make a few grand on each cadet
I doubt it. The TR costs ~Ģ20K which the cadet pays

The Base Training costs ~20K each, which FR pays

MorningGlory 28th September 2008 15:03

Not for long... cadets will be paying for the base training too soon. The more scarce the jobs the more they'll get the eager boys and girls to pay for :ok:

wbryce 28th September 2008 15:59

you really think we go to EMA and spend an entire week at RYRs expense? base training and safety/crm week is paid for by the cadets already. Its part of your TR costs.

Aerospace101 28th September 2008 18:08

Its part of your TR costs.
How is base part of TR costs? do you know what you are talking about? Seeing that base is min of 6 ccts, you telling me anyone who does it in more than 6 has to get their credit card out and start paying for the extra ccts!? Some how i doubt the FR cadets all manage to do it in the minimum 6 anyway.

Do you think the Irish CAA would allow 300 low houred fo cadets?

An airline does need an average level of experience i think if they just took on 300 low houred cadets the experience level would be too bias and bring the average down.

just a thought to ponder on.

I have 2 friends of mine who joined FR with more than 700 hours heavy turboprop. and they were forced to sign a cadet contract. So you can join this company with a good experience, even if you are considered as a !!!!ty wannabe. that's ryanair

Do you really think Ryanair will be offering 300 cadets JOBS at the end of their self-funded adventure? More likely they will be swimming in some pool hoping for a call to start linetraining, while the company goes to the bank to cash in. :E

captplaystation 28th September 2008 20:53

Strangely enough this is not the case. All training courses have been postponed for a few months. Whether that is because there would be very little flying to offer, or because more training is coming "in house" and will therefore be more lucrative with no middle man involved, I leave you to decide for yourself.

Jesper 28th September 2008 21:18

I think that people are talking way to much about stuff they donīt have a clue of.

Kempus 28th September 2008 21:46

well said Jesper!

I did my base training in 6 cicuits and hell one of the other guys took 12 circuits! No charge to his credit card!!

At the mo all type rating is done by outside companies so how people think FR make moeny out of it is beyond me!!

Yeah TR will become in house but when you got TRI's from different companies adding thier bit and own companies SOP's at all becomes a mess and well, the standard wasn't being met and some instances and this is not always down to the cadet! Keeping it in house should help to prevent this and BA/bmi/Lingus cadets all have the same problems! Welcome to your first job!

wbryce 29th September 2008 08:34

CAE/SAS pay RYR a fee per cadet to cover the CRM and base training. "RYR pay 20k" for base training, well thats just a fantasy, if you do a SSTR then the base training module only costs 4k with a partner airline so I don't know whats special in your opinion for RYR to depart with more than 4 times the market value. CCTs and Safety/CRM are part of the TR and you pay 22k for the TR (which is done under Ryanairs type rating training organization license and overseen by the IAA), without these modules signed off, I'd like to see you try and convince the IAA you've completed the course.

Anyone who requires more circuits does so at RYRs expense but generally this is not a common occurance. The only regular costs which RYR absorb are the 21 day simulator CCT refresher sessions.

Jesper, I agree, no one knows whats in the written agreement between RYR and the 2 schools (don't let that stop a good debate though! :E). If you work for RYR then you will know they are not an airline who will just happily absorb costs, they run the tightest ship, hence the whole self funded cadet route.

Kempus 29th September 2008 09:18

Dont have the contract anymore but I'm sure it said the base tarining would be at the cost of Ģ6500ish which if you dont make the grade you pay back. Its in line with storm, tcx and easy sstr's.

All TRO's will ask for a fee regarding placing a cadet regardless of the airline

08KaQAjQ 29th September 2008 09:51

I do know that in FR prefers low houred FO than guys with experience. They tend to find it easier teaching low experienced the FR way.

Aerospace101 29th September 2008 12:57

teaching low experienced the FR way
Yeah, and thats the reason many other airlines (flag carriers) will NOT touch ex FR pilots! Good luck!

graviton 29th September 2008 13:22

So there are no ex FR pilots in BA, Air France, Lufthansa, Alitalia etc. then?

Dream on if it keeps your little mind happy!

aerobat 29th September 2008 13:37

Aerospace 101, you are listening to too many rumours !

I flew only this week with an F/O who is working his notice and has a firm start date at British Airways. :)

Kempus 29th September 2008 14:44

I dont normally do this but what the funk!!

Like aerobat I know people recently moved to flag carriers from FR and christ I'm in the hold pool for a major!

My hat off to you Aerospace101 (if i had one!), I've read some crap on pprune but that sir is amazing! :D
