Emirates F/O position, could an actual Emirates pilot please answer.
Hello everyone!
I know there is a huge post on working for Emirates but I’d like to have some quick answers from actual F/O flying for Emirates before filling the application for a job with them.
Currently I’m a Brazilian A320 F/O logging around 4000 TT and 1500h on A320 family. I also hold an ATP but have only flown turboprop a PIC no jet experience as captain.
Considering this I’ll ask:
1) Do I meet the minimum requirements to fulfill a position as F/O? I’ve read the minimum requirements at their website, but those are the minimums, maybe this is not enough to “compete” for a job right now.
2) How many days off every month?
3) Could you provide me an example of an actual roster? How many hours do you usually fly?
4) What are the chances to get most of the flights to Sao Paulo?
5) How much money do you actually get on a regular month?
6) Is Emirates really allowing 40 days of vacation every year? Can you split these days in order to get more than one vacation at the same year?
7) If I join today, how long should I expect to move from the RHS to the LHS?
8) Finally, how is the life style in Dubai? I’m worried specially with my wife, for those of you who are married, did you wife got used to all this sand? Did they get a job?
I’d like to thanks anyone who takes the time to provide me some of the answer above!
Thanks!

Emirates F/O position
1) Yes
2) Minimum 7, and depending on if you have filled your hour quota. I average about two weeks off/month.
3) Expect around 78 hrs/month (up to 100h)
4) Max 3 a month to popular destinations. You should probably be happy to get one in the two top bid months. (3xGRU = 90hrs = 10hr overtime and a lot of time off)
5) Around $5500/month for FO's
6) Yes and yes
7) Today 3 years. In 3 years - who knows.
8) My family and I love it here in Dubai, even after 2.5 years. A lot of wives are working among my friends, even though finding the right job may be difficult.
I probably shouldn't be posting here since I have only positive things to say about EK and Dubai, but you are screwed in any airline these days. Take a vacation here and check out for yourself.

Thanks a lot for the info vroom! But could you be more specific on the roster explanation. You’ve mentioned 7 days off? Is that all? All the remaining days on duty? Maybe is because I live in Brazil, but here when you finally get to fly a big bird like a 777, you get the hole pack with it, a lot of days off, good salaries, etc… I imagine that on Emirates they use the 777s to fly sort routes as well, Is that correct? Not sure if you can do this but would be nice if someone post a copy of a regular roster so we can check it out.
As mentioned before I’m currently flying A320 as F/O on the largest Brazilian airline, they are paying ok but my main problem is that I fly like crazy, and I feel the need to find a way to spend more time with my family and I thought Emirates was the way to go… But now you are talking about 7 days off only…
I appreciate all the help you all can give me.
Thanks!

Orrrrrrrr maybe I didn’t get you answer #2 well.. correct me if I’m wrong… 7 days off is the minimum but you average 14 days every month… is that it?
This would be for the first year A330 only and most probably not 14 days off a month. More likely 8-12. After a year you do MFF A330/A340 and live gets easier if you can cope with the jet-lag.

normal month
$5500, really?, and on the 3rd year? I new EK Cpts did ok, but for F.O´s I find that very poor considering the airline, where you live and what you fly. How can Qatar and Etihad be paying around $9000 with house deduced ($min 6000) and still EK be the much greener side. Are we missing something??

Don't expect 3 ULR ( Ultra Long Range ) trips per month as they are limited to 2 for health reasons. However, 2 of these plus a Europe will get you up to the months flying target so should achieve anything up to 17 days off. Don't count on this in your bottom 2 bid months though.
Regarding F/O pay, yep, it's not a lot and it's getting very expensive here. Some basic food items, including eggs, bread and cooked chickens, soared by 50% at the start of the New Year. Yes, that's 50%! The same will happen again after the summer holidays when the shops increase the prices, hoping the housewives who were away for the summer will fail to notice the rise! Greedy gits!
