GB pilots to ballot on 27th Feb whether to strike or not

Just announced, the usual sensitive, caring way GB Management deal with their pilot's has cheesed them off so much they they are now being balloted for strike action on 27th February.

This is bad news for GB and once the press get their hands on this, it will damage GB's forward bookings.

If I were the owners of this once proud airline, I would be extremely worried as their train set might not be around for much longer if they don't listen.

Except, of course, your average Joe Public will have never heard of GB and when booking a BA flight will have no idea that it is a GB flight.

Looks like the gb management are playing hard ball !! It will end in tears and cost gb a lot more than just money if strike action is to go ahead. This reeks of bad management to get into this situation in the first place, tut tut...good luck to all at gb

Johnny

Could you please confirm exactly what is happeneing on the 27th? Is the ballot being sent out on that date or have they already had a ballot? By law a union must give seven days notice of a strike, after the close of a ballot.

May I suggest that the thread title is at best ambiguous and at worst misleading given that there has apparently been no vote to strike?
Never let clarity get in the way of a good headline!

Howzabout the far less exciting moniker:
"GB pilots to vote on 27th Feb re strike"
....although posts (and titles thereof) from probationary Pruners have presumably already been approved by Mods?

Management?

The initial thread was in no ways misleading. This is a "Rumours Network". This is no rumour. Shame moderators give in to a whim on "Political Correctness" from the likes of you.

slight thread creep i kno
but
If and when GB ditches the BA franchise this summer/winter, who will be on their a/c? I thought the majority of their business was BA holidays customers? Rumour has it the LGW 737's will pick up some bucket and spade when the franchise ends? Just interested thats all.

Greetings all,
Just a thought, but if the press 'somehow' got hold of the news, surely BA (WW) would come down on BW like a tonne (ton?) of bricks, and a decent offer would be made by the company in a matter of seconds,.........BA wouldnt want more bad press with threats of strikes affecting advance bookings,........ most people sort their summer hols about now!!

Just a thought,......

Went to Mr Walshs forum the other day @ LGW and somebody asked about GB and the franchise ! We got told that ba not intending to end the franchise and neither is GB but franchise is still running until 2010.
So all the rumours about GB taking over the Gatwick Fleet are rubbish and nothing was mentioned about the big announcement at gb on 1st March !

I hear that GB communications department received a call from a tour operator, who has decided not to block book for the Easter holiday period, on the basis that the pilots may be on strike. Apparently, the news that you may strike is in print already in a one of the tour operator magazines (cant recall which one, but Ive seen it with my own eyes).

I guess this puts more pressure on the management!!

Time to join me and my Orange girls?!?!

I'd have thought the weak link in all of this bold talk is that BALPA would actually have to support strike action by a workforce other than BA.

Ask any bmi/bmibaby/thingypenciljet "pilot".

The press are reporting it is down to a carpark issue (no doubt blinkered garbage released by the company).

From what I hear, I also think there is an element of a vote against the current management (BW is the most unpopular and most autocratic DFO in decades), and a large majority want to take him down.

BALPA supported a strike ballot by the UK KLM pilots last summer, the issues were then settled at ACAS after a 100% vote in favour of strike action.

Lgw Bean Flicker is absolutely correct, like most disputes the specific issue is an excuse to make a stand over wider issues. The real issue is the quality of management at all levels in GB. Over the last five years the quality of the commercial administratve management has allegedly declined from the Chairman down. The companies financial performance may be a reflection of this fact.
The pilot management hit rock bottom with Bully-boy W. What kind of senior management would give that position to someone with, allegedly, zero people skills. A triumph of ambition over ability? He is allegedly, out of his depth.
The pilot manager who could have properly represented the companies and pilots interests left in disgust at the antics of Johnny Vegas and Slipperty Bill et all several years ago. He said the writing was on the wall for the company 3 years ago.
