Parc Avation/Contract Work
I am an experienced A320/321 Captain and am possibly interested in a bit of Winter contract work anywhere in the world. I have had no experience of this type of work being one of the few lucky ones to have been in full time employment for almost 20 years.
I am looking for advice/comments on the pro's and con's of this type of work. Is there a lot of money in it? What is a typical monthly wage from someone like Parc? Are short term contracts available (3 months or so)?
It's easy to sit back and take the money over the Winter months, but as old age is fast approaching, I have the urge to broaden my wings so to speak before it is all too late.
Any comments would be welcome..... good and bad. .......Thanks to all

Westie,
Thanks for posting that... I'm in a similar position, in some ways, but very different in others. Current B737NG and a safety management specialist with a cracking track record, but pondering the possibilities to see a bit of the world before I get too old (no laughing at the back). If that doesn't work out, I'll be off to travel anyway...
So, what are the top B737 (ideally NG) jobs out there?

Kit,
My pleasure but I can't believe there aren't any contractors who have read my post. It seems quite a risk to take the plunge but there again an exciting one as well. So I am asking again for comments from guys who have had good and bad experiences contracting wise.

Hi Westie & Kit. I would recommend Parc if you are thinking of going down the contractor's route: they are excellent both in terms of the efficiency of their staff & the conditions/pay that they achieve for you. They have a number of contracts on various aircraft types, it's better to fill out their online registration form & they will contact you when you meet a profile. You could also give them a call, they are always willing to talk to you but you will have to fill out the form anyway.
Kit, I know of a 737NG contract that was/is available based in Japan, I believe that they are looking for both seats with a salary of approx $19,000 per month for a skipper. As I say, if you are interested then contact them.
Westie there are contracts available in India & China with a number of agencies, again offering varying degrees of T & Cs. As a contract pilot you will certainly get the opportunity to see the world, if that's your wish.

No Capt Chambo, it wasn't a typo, I believe that that is the total monthly pay with ANK, based in Japan on a commuting basis. That is the USD total & how much is made up of basic, per diems, flight pay, etc., I couldn't tell you but it's a very lucrative contract.
ANK= Air Nippon Commuter. As an expatriate you would be a DEC on the B735.
As of June this year the salary breakdown was as follows:- Whilst under training (6 months approx.) $7200 and no extras. First year $9000, second year $10000, third year $11000. Once training has been completed you then receive an "International Per Diem" of $3500 per month, from this you have to pay for your own transport to and from Japan, and whilst in Japan, and you pay for your own accommodation etc. At the completion of 18 months you will get a bonus of $12000, same again at the completion of 30 months and again at the completion of 42 months. These figures are all gross, you will need to reguralise your tax affairs with the Japanese and your home country. There is flight pay and nightstop pay as well.
From this, assuming you are paid the terminal bonus, the top salary is $14500 gross in year 3.

Capt Chambo the contract which I am talking about is for the 737-700, not the -500. The figures that I heard being discussed was for a total renumeration of approx $19,000 for a Captian. Remember, as I have previously stated: different contract companies provide different rates for the same carrier good, bad & indifferent.

It would be great for the industry if it is $19k. But I doubt it. It is a huge premium over what is being currently offered, the agency offering that will be cutting their own throats as their pilots on other 737 contracts in Japan will be very unhappy unless they get pay parity. Remember, the agencies don't work for the pilots.
X-C. As at June this year the B737-700 was not an option to the expatriate pilots.
I know I asked at the interview.
The figures I quoted were correct for one agency, other agencies were offering the same salary, as this comes from the ANA group. The differences between the agencies amounted to small differences in Loss of Licence or medical insurance. I compared and contrasted all the agencies at the time that were offering jobs in Japan.
None of them came close to $19k. I'm afraid

Sorry to rain on your parade X-Centric, but nothing comes close to 19K at the moment in Japan, thats not to say I wish it was correct, its just that at present 14-15k is as good as it gets.

Xcentric US$19,000 even if that was correct after taxes and accommodation costs in Japan does not go far...... Are you aware how expensive Japan is and the price of property to rent......... Think you can
halve that at the end of the day...

Sweetpollypurebred, you're wrong, there are left hand seat jobs in Japan paying in excess of $19,000 at the moment, I assure you of that, & they are contract positions.
Tonylollo, I'm well aware of the cost of living in Japan as I am now based here; you are correct: it is expensive but that fact doesn't 'halve' the salary: some of the available contracts are for commuting positions anyway.
Capt Chambo, if you interviewed for the position & the salary on offer was for $14,500 with ANK I stand corrected. I met with a group of their expat pilots in Shinagawa; they told me that their renumeration package was in the region of $19,000 per annum & that they would be moving over to the -700 in the near future. Mind you, they had 'blown the froth off a few' when I saw them!

Does the Japan contract that has been talked about incule current Airbus rated pilots? (319/320/321). If not, any thoughts on good money contracts for us flybywire chaps?
