Short-Term Contracts

What would be the advisable way to search for a 6-month contract this winter?

Is it preferable to use an agency or can one expect some success doing his/her own enquiries?

Are there certain agencies which specialise in short-term contracts for experienced A320 Captains?

Agencies tend to be the simplest way to go. Many advertise on here such as Parc and Sigmar Aviation whilst Wynnwith seem to be strong on UK based positions as I have had phone calls from them about Flyglobespan, Jet2 and someone mentioned on here that they had positions with GB Airways for what its worth.

Thanks pdg. Actually since I have the luxury of keeping my present job and get leave for the winter, I'd rather get some experience away from Europe. Middle East/SE Asia perhaps? Would USA/Canada accept a JAA license?

A big NO. The CAA did not acepts FAA licences for a long time and also put a lot of obstacles in the path for obious reasons if somebody spend less money for a CPL/IFR Multiengine licence then in the UK or mainland Europe.
On the other side the FAA is offering you that you can make a ATP straight without having a US-CPL. Use ur expirience and then you can do the FAA-ATP written test and then put your typerating onto your licence and do a flight check in the A320 and you will get a unrestricted FAA ATP. The question is: Do you really want to do it?. The JAR-FCL Licence is a ICAO licence and the Far-East, middle East, and south east Asia is giving you a national licence based on your JAR-FCL licence after you do a Airlaw written test. That is usually the way it works. India is looking for Pilots, IRE/TRE are mostly welcome. Vietnam was as well looking for A320 drivers. If you want to know more E-mail me and we take it from there.

Fly safe and land happy

I imagined that it would not be possible/easy to fly in the States on a JAA license. I wouldn't consider doing the whole ATPL again, just for 6 months. Perhaps Canada accept JAA? I know Skyservice and My Travel trade aircraft and crew on a regular basis in high/low seasons.
