Unhappy Commuting costs

I was recently offered a job which would involve commuting ( i could not afford to live in such a place) but the company had no interest at all in assisting with staff travel until six months service.

Combined with the cost of accommodation, food, running a car and paying the mortgage and bills at home makes it a financial nightmare.

Is this normal practise with most companies? I think it shows a major lack of consideration for a possible valuable employee!

I will be grateful for some feedback.

Nomercy.

It depends on the company... if it is regional or commuter itself, it probably isnt going to do much helping. On the other hand, if it is a legacy or flag carrier, then i yes, i would suspect some help.

standard 6 months with companies. but check who they have rebate travel agreements with as this can make a big difference to your costs and flexibilty. but do not expect any financal or preferential rostering treatment.
