Upper cabin length 747-400
Firstly, do forgive me if I am posting this in the wrong section!
I am passionate about the Boeing 747 aircraft and greatly saddened that it will shortly be retired. I plan to fly on it next year and will be seated upstairs. I am very interested to know the tech details on the upper deck cabin width and length as I have never sat there before! I have heard that it is 11ft 4in wide Is this correct? But no where can I find details of the length upstairs! We will be flying with Virgin Atlantic.

Actually, if it is a 747-400 freighter with the stretched upper deck(ie converted to a freighter), you will find that the interior is not particularly long as compared to the pax version. I was expecting a nice long area for crew rest(perhaps with a pool table and a bar) but they moved the pressure bulkhead quite a bit forward making it not much longer than the freighter straight from the factory that had the short upper deck.

Thank thank you for your kind reply, I was trying to find out the actual length and width of the upper deck not really about the seat pitch! I am surprised Boeing do not give these dimensions ?
Based on a Boeing drawing I'm looking at of the upper cabin on a -400D (so with minimal galley provision), the length of the seating area (excluding the galley at the back and the toilets up front) is a tad over 50 feet. Assuming Virgin have a decent-sized galley upstairs, that will reduce the seating area accordingly.
Width-wise, your figure of 11 ft 4 in is correct, as measured between the outer edges of the armrests on either side (i.e. not including the storage bins). Bear in mind that the sidewall curves in markedly at head height on the upper deck.
