B737-800W landing attitude question

Hi all

Could any of the 737-800W pilots tell me what the attitude on the PFD is on initial touchdown? I see normally just below the 5 degree mark, say 4 degrees. Am i wrong. Is it lower????

Thanks in advance

BC

If you're looking at your PFD on touchdown you are doing it wrong !

<grin>Hard to get a straight answer here, isn't it?

About 4 degrees is normal for an '800W on a normal descent and flare, with the speed around Vref. I look out the window too, but later print the "landing report" from the plane's ACMS page and review the data...

Yeah thought most of you would be a bit smart here. Thanks Powderfinger though so a straight answer.

We all look out the window. Just wanted an answer regarding what the PFD shows.

B737-800

I don't know about the 800, but on the A320, the approach is at a body angle of 2.5 to 3 degrees nose up. As for the actual landing technique I start to reduce power at 50 ft and power is idle at 30 ft. Then at aprox 15 to 10 ft, increase nose up attitude to 6 degrees and hold that till touchdown. This results in little float and a good landing.

Like with any aircraft... look out the window and what ever it takes to check the descent, then that's the attitude. Every flight being different due to wind, CG, speed, temperature, turbulence, x-wind.

After all... does one look inside whilst landing their C152?

I don't know about the -800 but the 737-300 FCTM states the flare is initiated by coming back 2-3 degrees. if the attitude on approach is 2.5 degrees then this suggests the touch down without excessive float should be around 5.5 degrees?

Close, yes. It is the same advise about initiating the flare by increasing the pitch by 2 to 3°, approach attitude for typical landing weights at flaps 30 and Vref+5 is around 3 to 4° (according to boeing, 1° less for each 5kts above that speed) which means touchdown attitude is around 5 to 7°.

MENU>DFDMU>PITCH REPORT

I got a 4.4 last night. Pretty decent landing.
