Dear Mr Boeing
After changing types from the Airbus and being on your 777 for a little while now. I have this to say , you have spent millions of dollars in building a great machine and about 1$ building what has to be the worst seat I have ever had the displeasure of sitting in. Enough for me to overlook all the other brilliant engineering , especially when the daily back ache is there as a surly reminder.
PLease Please get it right on the 787 !!!! I will be happy if you could spend perhaps 2$ on it , and so will many of my colleauges.
ps John Deere is a tractor, 777 is a long haul airplane.

I know where you're coming from.
Though not on the 777, or a real Boeing for that matter, the driver's seats in the Douglas-Boeing 717 are the worst I've sat in in an aeroplane, and most of my sectors are only about 1:40!

I gather that the pilots' seat is a customer option. Sounds like you should be blaming your company for buying the cheapest.
However I stand to be corrected.

My Boeing experience is limited to 757/767 but I remember when a capt's seat broke and had to be replaced we were told that it had cost as much as a good model BMW.
I found they were tolerably comfortable when the cushions were new but unfortunately the company had no routine for replacing them other than on a major check.
I suggest you make a tech log entry for replacement.
As an interim try swapping the cushion for the one from the jump seat though you may find someone else has thought of it first!

Seats in the 747 are comfortable.
I had to laugh a few weeks ago. The FE was getting out of his seat at the end of a trip, and went to reposition the seat electrically. I heard a snap and he let out a yell. I'm not sure what wire he found or how he found it, but he got zapped. Eight hours of peaceful rest from A to B, then shocked back to wakefulness by his own chair.

Funny, the older seats seem to be better, the 727 seemed just right, although the old MD80 seats were almost the worst I have experienced (worst being the Saab 340)
757 not too bad, 767 too bloody hard.

I can just agree
I fly 737, the sectors are not too long but long enough to let you feel the DISCOMFORT of Boeing seats. I can imagine they are able to design better. Why the they didn't?

Does the manufacturer ever canvass the flight crews for seat comfort?
Is cabin ergonomics ever reviewed on a 'regular' basis?
Do the purchasers ever tell the manufacturer that the comfort is marginal at best?

Obviously I have been lucky, 757/767-300/747-400, all lovely seats so it must have a lot to do with customer choice in the first place and like I said, I have been lucky! They all had the sheep skin wrap around which makes a real difference.

Assuming it is a customer choice , to allow the " bottom of the range" chair to be so poorly designed is still inexcusable. Give me an airbus chair anyday( and that was the same when I flew it for different companies and on differing types). By the way I do like the rest of the 777 immensely.
I,m off to get some morphene to help me get through my trip tonight !

Sounds like the pilots seats in an Airbus are pretty darned good - well done Airbus!
Just a pity the rest of the aircraft is Euro-trash.
Sorry but "going Boeing" is still the mantra for the "discerning, sophisticated, dashing" aviation professional.
I know because I is one.
