Post High Speed Descent Versus Speed Breaks on A330 202/234

Hi there ,
Just wanted to know what you guys employ when you have a no speed restriction descent on the 30 and at what speeds ? . . . . and why you prefer descending in that way and does it have more advantages than the other ...... I personally use either or a combination of the two in some cases . . .
all thoughts appreciated !
cheers

hi,

where we fly its high speed all the way then speed brake last to reduce.
the ride is much smoother.
if you use speed brakes at very high speeds it gets a bit bumpy.
high speed descent is abt 320kts.
i think airbus recomends you increase speed first and later on use speed brakes somewhere in the FCOMS.
pls cprrect me if im wrong.

cheers.

No speed restiction? Just speed.

Speed brakes are for sissies. You've already burned fuel to create the potential energy. Why waste that energy by using speedbrakes?

Oh, if you need speedbrakes a partial deployment for a longer period of deployment is, IMO, better than a full deployment for a short period of time. No one notices the slight deployment, EVERYONE notices the full deployment.

hi ya , that's what I do really .... initally speed up then partial deployment for short periods in order to keep the max VS even when I have to reduce the speed . . . . .sometimes its just with the speed though and never have to touch the brakes . . . !
keep it coming guys .......

would like to get more insight on this
