Tail tipping b737-800

Looking for info on tail tipping of any 737-800 or 900 when configured in high density seating.
We tried to figure at the gate with front zone people off the plane and back full with no bags removed from zones 3 or 4.
Has it happened before.

aircraft tipping up, used to happen to VC10, and when unloading the freighter B747 the nose wheel will come off the ground but balances on the body and wing gears, when there is no weight at the front loads at the back.

If you stop on an uphill section of taxi way / holding point, and on releasing the brakes start to roll backwards, further application of the brakes, instead of correctly applying thrust, would achieve it on an 800 I'm sure, but pax all at the back . . hmn , it does have a lot of aircraft forward of the wing so I hope / think not.Sure some poor sod will prove me wrong though.

Nearly, but "normally" the stair at the aft entry door stops the tipping.

Ifixplanes...make sure we are talking about 737-800 no aft stairs here!

We start our heavy island hops for the winter and we'll return to the US with 189 pax and 200 sax split is about 40/60 thats 120 bags in back!

If the people start filing off, the back of the plane is still full and a few slow folks are in the isle up front we could tip on its tail. I'm looking for the facts...has it been tested? No limitations?

Does anyone load for 27% MAC for long range cruise?

Fliifast1, please read carefully:
I don´t wrote "aft airstair", i wrote "stair at the aft entry"
During Pax debording out of door 1L normally a stair is positioned at aft entry.
It is not seldom that lower Gate of the door meets the stair.
During debording of HF 737-800 i often see a change of hight at aft door up to 30cm.

We are using quite often MAC 25 and more. During debording NW extends sometimes dramatically, but that's usually the case if loading stuff are emptying hod 2 and 1 first. Good indication on the 800 is the PSEU light which comes on if the NW strut extend too much, that's the point when I ask the loaders to do hold 3/4 first. I have never seen an 800/900 sitting on its tail. Anybody seen it?

Thanks guys...we never have aft stairs but a catering truck, I'll ask the caterers about height changes when we are heavy.
Intresting about PSEU light, never thought of that. We'll give that a try in the sim.

800 tail will tip at approx 51% mac. This equates to nobody sitting forward of the overwing exits with all pax aft of the exits. This happened in my airline because of a disruptive pax, the cops held the pax aft of the overwing but let the rest off. Captain came bounding down the fwd stairs and nearly broke neck as bottom step was floating. A/c not quite tipped at that point. Stopped the offloading of fwd cargo holds and got pax fwd, incident avoided!!!

Note, that fuel in CTR tank bring mac fwd also. So I think the 51% is assuming no CTR tank fuel

NB (Sterling) with tailtipping at AGP 20th July 2008. Is it possible to create a tailtipping situation only by deadload? e.g 3000kgs in AFT hold?

In my company operating both the -800 and -900:

-800, 120 bags in hold 3, the rest in hold 2 and load / offload passengers as normal.

-900, 25 bags in hold 2 1st, the rest in 3. Load passengers, rows 1 to 17 (I think) 1st, then the rest of the passengers. Unloading, rows 17 and aft 1st then the rest of the forward rows. (Keeping the weight forward obviously)

I don’t know about the hard facts and figures about it tipping, but that’s what we do.

BAW wants a warning to the crew and the dowline station if there is a difference of more than 2000kg between the fwd and the aft hold on the A320. Same rule is applicable on the dc9/md80.

In that case, it is mandatory the aft hold is offloaded first.

I had a MD80 tip on top of me once, literally.

All the seats had been removed from the cabin and 3 guys were working inside the tail section, which I was standing underneath. Imagine my surprise when the aircraft suddenly decided to use me as a tailskid! After much yelling and shouting and running forward from inside the tail, normal operation was resumed.

Finally, I understand the call at the end of Thomas Cook flight's on the 757. "Passengers in the rear cabin will be leaving the aircraft first".

A team from XL came to MAN from london a couple of weeks ago to study this exact effect on their new 737-900's.

They looked at various scenarios ie. If bags where being loaded from the back at the same time pax where being offloaded, thus what if a kid tripped up at the back on the a/c thus causing a bottleneck effect, what effect would this have on the balance of the aircraft...

They where also looking at the effect what loading passengers and bags would have on the nose gear. As of now, they havent changed their loading procedure, but i have seen additional stickers within the aft hold used to remind the rampers....

would be interested to see the results...

Tail Tipping, is that a sport that occurs at night, like pushing over sleeping cows?
