Bank Limit Selector on the B767

I am having a dicussion with one of my colleagues regarding the use/purpose of the BANK LIMIT SELECTOR on the B767/757.

As usual the Boeing manual is less than usefull.

Can some explain to me what exactly the purpose of it is.

How does the AUTO selection compare to any of the 5/10/15/20/25 positions?

How does either relate to aircraft speed?

and anything else you may think of.

From the manual I can discern no real difference.

Many thanks

GFH

In AUTO mode the AFDS max bank angle is a function of TAS. At 250 kts TAS and below the max angle is 25 while above 250 the max angle is limited to 15 degrees of bank. The commanded angle varies according to the TAS up to the pre-programmed max value of 15 or 25.

Switching to manual, the max angle is whatever is selected regardless of airspeed.

This control is common to all aircraft from the 737 through the 777. The 747 includes inputs from flap position and computed V2 speeds in its bank angle limit computations for the AFDS.

Don't forget too that the bank angle selector only works in Heading Select. In LNAV, you get a similar result to "AUTO" regardless of bank angle selector position.

Hope that helps.

Thank you Gentlemen.

Now why couldn't Boeing say that in their manual?

Cheers
