It's thought the plane had a mechanical fault and the emergency landing was a precautionary measure.

the only real worrying fact is the low passenger number
Surprisingly nobody was reported to have feared for his life...

No word yet then of which hospital, orphanage and school the pilots narrowly avoided while struggling to maintain control of the (almost) doomed aircraft ?

Whereas the last two replies aren't funny now, never were and never will be!

That's interesting:

"JLA spokesman Robin Tudor said: “They had some form of technical problem, although I’ve not got the exact details, and the aircraft decided to turn back."

I didn't know the airbus is that sophisticated!

There's no such thing. It was just a red herring.

Just a tech return to base, no emergency! As for pax numbers the ezy601 generally has low loads into bfs and high loads on the inbound sector.

It is. Someone some time heard comm between tower and flight xxx an A320 "we're going around, the airplane won't let us land"

Probably just bravo sierra, or a screw up by the guys in seat 0 A and B.

So, just a technical diversion then?
Seems to be the most likely explanation at the time.
